best movie of the year (not saying much because the year’s been shit but nonetheless. It’s good.

I walked out 15 minutes early, immediate shark jumping turn to base defend from impending vampire attack so I just left.

surprisingly really sexy and for me the female actresses were the standouts

really bizarre vibe shift to self aware goofiness in the end. honestly felt like Coogler made an hour and a half or an amazing movie then didn’t know what to do.

Excellent, just excellent.

THAT scene

Builds characters well so I felt empathy when they were slaughtered

Cast was top notch, especially Jordan, Jordan, O'Connell and Lindo

Ending was a bit overlong but didn't ruin it, Klan slaughter felt a bit pointless but cool to watch

Works as a music movie and a vampire one

make an anti-woke about segregation being good and commie vampires being bad

get rich

that simple

mediocre at best
i opted to see it over la haine, very much regret that choice

Don't Fall for the Hollywood meme? It may have been good? But 99.9% of everything else is garbage. Don't fall for the Hollywood meme.

My thoughts: NIGGERS

The KKK scene at the end was goofy, but I adored everything else about the film. The twins, Hailee, and Remmick were standouts for me, but majority of the characters were well written and acted.

i think the KKK showdown thing was Coogler basically going all in on Uno Farto
the film felt very much like a Tarantino film but more serious
also it's basically a From Dusk Till Dawn remake

Don't fall for the Hollywood meme! They're trying the stick and carrot routine.

negro propaganda

i shan't be watching

It was an awesome theatrical experience, and I agree, best of the year so far. It got goofy near the end but that was by design. The music scene gave me chills man.

Klan slaughter felt a bit pointless but cool to watch

It was one of those crowd-pleaser cathartic moments for the audience. The hero gets to take out his pain and frustration on assholes who deserve it. I'm sure it has a TVTropes entry.

best movie of the year

there's 10 billion better movies coming out this year tho, it's looking stacked

highest 2 lowest

tron ares

jurassic world rebirth

f1

28 years later

zootopia 2

heads of state

there's no way it's going to be one of the best films of the year

My friend and his GF went to go see this and I didn't know anything about the movie but after I saw the trailer I agreed with myself that his GF just wanted to see large black men on screen

It seems good but I won't watch it in the theater because the director only made capeshit until this

fruitvale station and creed aren't capeshit

grim

if i wanted to waste two hours looking at apes i'd go to the zoo

Highest 2 Lowest

Spike Lee has been shit for a while, not even cause of woke. Rap remake of a Kurosawa film sounds like something that can maybe be good if someone really talented makes it, but current Spike Lee is a hack and it's easy to fumble the concept, I have no trust. He was also rejected by Cannes on his application for the Main Competition which also is not a good sign. Sinners is a better "black centered movie" than anything Lee has been doing since he suddenly started making nothing shit around the late 00s.

Wicked pt.2

JW: Rebirth

Heads of State

come the fuck on now, most of this is dead on arrival quality wise
i want Tron Ares to be good but the director done nothing but total slop since Kon Tiki and the writers are some hacks, one of them did Enola Holmes and a bunch of other garbage, Jared Leto is also a red flag, it's gonna be bad most likely
he did an indie drama Fruitvale Station (well made, but obviously racial dindunufin topic) and Creed which was surprisingly good, he was a hired gun for Marvel cause they needed a token black director for token black centered films

creed is honorary capeshit

not at all, and it's a good movie, never seen the sequels tho, but they weren't done by Coogler

the black From Dusk til Dawn but much much worse

Michael B. Jordan plays himself twice

main protagonist has marbles in his mouth

terrible YT hick music

cunnilingus LOL

YT hate LOL

98% RT & A rating Cinemascore

what did they mean by this

I went not having seen any trailers nor read any reviews, only knowing it had received great ones and that it was supposed to be a thriller.

My first thoughts were that damn is this gonna be really scary? then it hit with the jumpscare flashes etc and it got my hopes up. Afterwards i enjoyed the buildup, waiting for the payoff that just didnt happen. It just turned into zombieslop.

I expected more and i'm surprised by how most people are glazing it and proclaiming it as a 10/10; i'd personally give it an 8

the irish song scene was kino though

Now You See Me 3

100% going to be a masterpiece like the first 2, the others are debatable but now you see me 3 will be a masterpiece

i want Tron Ares to be good

jeff cronenweth is DP, it's going to be fantastic

Aside from the film being genuinely great, I think the A Cinemascore rating is because every demographic is cool in the movie, even the Native Americans that only appeared for like 40 seconds.

All films get overhyped nowadays unfortunately. 8 is fair though I would personally give it an 8.5

yes all the great classic vampires of literature have been riverdance cornballs
DEI or bust baby, but seriously this movie is going to be forgotten as quickly as it caught fire since the only 'culturally significant' scene starred the ghost of jimmy hendrix

classic vampires of literature

those aren't classic vampires of literature, no one expected them either, it wasn't marketed like it was Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula or something

Only the one where they recruited the quadroon.. The one where they were dancing sucked.

liuke the fits 2

nigga, come on with this bait

jeff cronenweth

none of the movies he did outside of Fincher ones were visually impressive, he is not Lubezki or Hoytema which can dictate visuals for the director, Fincher visuals were Fincher's own work, he is good at guiding hired guns in what to do

but seriously this movie is going to be forgotten as quickly

I don’t think so. Sinners feels like Coogler’s Get Out/Inception. It will remain culturally relevant for a long time, though there obviously will be backlash against it as has been the case for every exalted film in the last decade.

jews give a racist black dude millions of dollars to make an anti-white murder fantasy

I hope North Korea nukes LA.

Has Coogler cracked the code in passing off a long-form MV as kino?

none of the movies he did outside of Fincher ones were visually impressive

one hour photo was good and k19 was bad because bigelow can't wrangle actors, not because cronenweth was bad. being the ricardos also looked fantastic so i have no idea what you're on about and again that's literally all he's done outside of fincher

Fincher visuals were Fincher's own work

lmao are you fucking high, there's a complete and visible difference between the films fincher did with him and the ones he did without him.

hoytema

you mean the guy who replaced pfister??? lmao

Lubezki

i don't like anything he did outside of malick and the only inarritu film i like was lensed by khondji

I just love the hypocrisy of accusing YT's of appropriating black culture for $$, then Coogler keeps hiring a white Swedish man to handle his soundtrack for movies about black culture.

literally all the women were married and cheating whores.

Is there supposed to be some racial commentary when it comes to the vampires being white? (Is it even true? It seems like cornbread got turned)

If not, does this movie have any racial commentary besides a dramatized depiction of the racial divide of the period? It’s hardly Jordan peele slop imo to make a black fantasy movie.

It was one of those crowd-pleaser cathartic moments for the audience. The hero gets to take out his pain and frustration on assholes who deserve it. I'm sure it has a TVTropes entry.

passing off a long-form MV as kino?

nigga that's everything anyone who previously worked at propaganda has ever done. fincher, bay, dominic sena. honestly most guys working since the 80s have started out as music video/ commercial directors

it SUUUUCKED as a horror film. is this thing being botted on RT? I can't explain it otherwise.
If you want a well shot negrodrama and a musical masquerading as a horror film then this is it. But the horror parts were re-heated ideas you've seen before ("Vampires? Sheeeit grab da stakes!"). Basically from Dusk Til Dawn.

Maybe the only thing that's interesting is you could interpret the vampires as being liberals trying to absorb blacks into an evil multi-cultural empire where there is no blackness or whiteness.

SINNERS morelike NAGGERS

When's the home release?

Why did Hailee run away other than just to show up at the end? The vamps were winning

The racial commentary is, "Every White person is a vampire or a racist and they should all be killed. Also, they stole rock n roll from us."

The vampires are anti-racist in the movie and like a communist hivemind with the point beign such radical attempt to escape the racial tensions is more or less wrong and is a Devil's Contract.
Seeing Annie die rather than become a vampire woke up her human emotions which overpowered the vampire hivemind.

She's Supernatural with time to burn, so undoubtedly she got bored and booked.

monsters start out as invincible killing machines

by the end of the film they're much weaker for hand to hand combat scenes and always running away or just throwing people across rooms

worst monster trope ever

they did not seem invincible at all, the irish vampire guy looked like he barely survived being pursued by indians, probably the rest of his original crew got killed by them

Hailee Steinfeld is bae af.

They can survive multiple gunshots to the chest, and can fly, and have super strength. By the end of it they somehow are all falling on stakes and being taken on by tiny asian women.
There wasn't any logic to it. In fact I think one of the characters even shouts out they're getting weaker but there's no explanation.

though there obviously will be backlash

what backlash? it's being universally praised everywhere

There's a lot of references to pussy eating and cheating on your husband in this movie. It's called Sinners, but still.
Loved Smoke and Stack, loved Remnick and his story about the English taking Irish land, Hailee Steinfeld's solid (though less prominent than I thought she'd be) and has a great ass. Pearline was sexy.
I liked the vampire eyeshine and it's become a more common trope as a way to portray the undead quality of vampires.
Like the flash-forward to the 90s.
Mississippi Delta looks beautiful in the movie.
Glad he killed the Klan chapter.
Solid fucking movie, success is well deserved.

In 50 years time this is gonna be recognized like Get Out, a sham of a film that does not hold up at all and was entirely propped up by the American racial hysteria of the time.

3 after credit scenes

I missed the last one, but the one where Jordon and Haliee came back I expected the blues guy to have like a trap or something, but he just let them go for some reason.

The Asian lady's death was anticlimactic. Who did she even take out? Was it her husband or just some random vamp?

I missed the last after credit scene too. Someone spoil it for me.

Well written effort post. Thoughts on the action scenes?

I was so uninterested I walked out without seeing any of them. Kek.

Husband. It was quite romantic

all the bad guys are white(irish)

full of other woke nonsense

Weird

Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures

Oh it's just another shill campaign by the WB rats

white americans bad

white irish bad

white kkk bad

white humans bad

white vampires bad

whites who mix with blacks bad

whites who don't mix with blacks bad

wow so many fucking layers to the commentary. ryan coogler clearly has complex social opinions.

>really bizarre vibe shift to self aware goofiness in the end. honestly felt like Coogler made an hour and a half or an amazing movie then didn’t know what to do.

Cooner clearly just wanted to indulge in a murderous black racial fantasy about killing White people. The entire movie is set up to be about that and only that.

It was younger Sammy playing the guitar one last time

Oh, okay. Thank you.

Action scenes except for the gunplay were pretty bad imo. I'm thinking of when the Chinese lady told the vampires to come in and how all the humans should've been killed off right away due to them being outnumbered and vampires having some form of super strength and talons, but clever/shitty editing obfuscated things.

I thought it was kind of strange how the vampires acted feral at first and then later you've got Mary screaming about Smoke's lover dying instead of becoming a vampire like she wasn't trying to eat everyone five minutes ago.

The white people were clearly cool and talented though.
If anything I take umbrage with this idea that black americans somehow invented all of modern music.

If their father is Helel then probably.

when european folk music takes the banjo, an african instrument, and integrates it, it becomes african music. when african music takes the guitar, a european instrument, and integrates it, it remains african music. it's an unsustainable, retarded perspective that doesn't stand up to scrutiny even the tiniest bit.

when the Chinese lady told the vampires to come in and how all the humans should've been killed off right away due to them being outnumbered and vampires having some form of super strength and talons

that really did deflate the entire film into a tales from the crypt level rehash.

So their daughter is just an orphan now?

They should have booby trapped the house or something instead of just stating in the wide open middle of it. Also that old guy died for literally nothing

nigger flick

nah thx

There was an almost "grindhouse" aspect to part of the movie during the middle with the vampires that I wasn't expecting or hinted at by the trailer. Still very good, and I kind of like the fact that vampires didn't heal immediately like most vampires are portrayed as.

Sammy would definitely have his family look after her.

I thought it was too fragmented. It wanted to be a historical drama, musical, both serious and schlocky horror, and have some marvel tier CGI shit at the end as well.
I'm a horror fan so wanted a horror film. Near Dark is a better example of a coherent film.
