Called do the right thing

it's ironic like when they call a big guy tiny or a fat guy slim

What even is the message of this film? Whites and blacks can only get along for so long and then it’s time to burn this mothafucka down? Seriously, I’m not trying to be a contrarian. I don’t get it. It seemed like a movie about tolerance but then at the end they have the MC throw a trash can through a shop window and start a race riot.

this film is kino and so is sorry to bother you. I dont mind black joints when they feel sincere even if I dont agree with their message. I find shit like the butler, green book or 12 years a slave much more offensive and boring

Seeking to perform the correct course of action in order to avoid catastrophe, is a white phenomenon. Spike Lee rolls his eyes and says only white audiences ask, ‘what was the right thing to do?’ regarding ‘Do The Right Thing’

Pizza place owner did literally nothing wrong and i'm not even gonna try and debate whatever gay arguments you might have.

The real embarrassing part of 12 Years a Slave is that scene when the main character looks directly at the camera and stares down the audience. As for the rest, you can't fault a movie adapted from real life events for adapting those real life events.

He literally just had to put up a picture of Jordan or Michael Jackson or something

If he did that they'd ask for something else. They don't care about the picture, it's a bitter power play like carrying a boombox at max volume to provoke a confrontation

It's easy to make excuses for how it wouldn't work when you're not even trying, like posters on this here website Anon Babble who don't apply to jobs or don't ask out women because they fear rejection. Not putting up Jordan is also a power play.

It's that the easiest thing you can do is the one that will benefit everyone, but stubbornness and pride get in the way.
All it would take was one deescalation and nobody could. It came out at a point where Urban America was at its most divided. Old Jews were still around and Young Koreans were coming in and Black and Hispanic people in large cities felt squeezed. This eventually boiled over into riots like the Crown Heights Riot and the Rodney King Riots.
Lee grew up on a border of Middle Class White and Black Brooklyn and it embodies most of his personal films.
To his right there was Brooklyn Heights and Boreum Hill, the world of Moonstruck, to his left Bed Stuy and Crown Heights.

True

Imagine walking into a black restaurant and throwing a fit because they only put pictures of black people on the wall. You'd be beaten to a pulp. Why the fuck do the black guys deserve special treatment?

Sal teaches his kids to become more tolerant towards everyone in the neighborhood

In the end they burn they almost strangle him to death and then burn his pizza place down to avenge the death of someone who was killed by the cops

I always felt it was a secret redpill despite Spike Lee's comments

Radio Raheem was a stupid gorilla that literally died from suicide by cop. All he had to do was not be an obnoxious prick and yet he chose to do everything in his power to die.

Not putting up Jordan is also a power play.

His restaurant, his rules. It's pretty simple.

I watched a few clips and all I could see were black americans being cunts desu.

it's supposed to be ironic

The moral of the story is: remove yourself physically from diverse environments. Can't be called intolerant if there's no bullshit to tolerate.

Just fucking hear someone out instead of taking it as something no human should ever have. Stop taking acts of communication or understanding as if it were special treatment. The dude was a regular

dude's a regular customer so he should have a say in your restaurant and how it's run

And from what I recall the dude was a problem customer douchebag.

Well yeah, and that leads to

my neighborhood, my act of arson

Do you really think saying ‘fuck you its mine’ helps here

Not quoted but all i'm hearing here is the italian guy should have armed himself.

I find his request ridiculous but if I owned a pizza place in the hood I would honestly be fine placating the local retard by putting up a few pictures of Basketballers and Ainsley and shit

"You need to put up pictures of black people because I say so."

"I want my walls to showcase people of my race and culture that I am proud of. I don't want to put a token black up there."

"You're racist and evil."

Again, all the more reason the Italians should've fled the neighborhood so they could live free of violence.

There are other ways of dealing with asshole customers. Like grabbing a customer you like and taking input from them instead while the asshole is watching. Make it clear that you acknowledge the asshole's point but won't take shit from him specifically because he personally is an asshole. It's easy to come up with this now, decades later, and not so easy in the moment, but still.

Should I deescalate or should I escalate?

This Anon fails the Do the Right Thing test.

"I want my walls to showcase people of my race and culture that I am proud of. I don't want to put a token black up there

So it’s just a racial pride wall? If this is really the case then a token black photo, or even a few, is empathetic for a black neighborhood. Why not some photos of your black customers enjoying food in the place? You could pull a black chef out of your ass but a few pictures of people’s grandpas with their arm around the owner would do it

If a black guy tells you to do something, you have to do it or else he will chimp out and it'll be your fault.

Do the right thing and segregate

if he did that they would know he's a pushover and they would ask for more things in the future

Do you go to black restaurants and demand italian americans on the walls anon?

Handle it like a mafia person. ‘Alright guys because I love you so much this one’s free, but I’m not just gonna change the restaurant around every time you ask’ and then occasionally do little things to keep cool with the community like hold a party once in a while

A black restaurant in an Italian neighborhood? A picture of an Italian customer hugging the black owner would look good on those walls too.

kneel to retards or else you're at fault when they attack cops

Magical thinking.

No but if I lived in Chinatown even if I ran a white/western themed restaurant I’d get some Asian fusion photos in there somewhere

So it’s just a racial pride wall?

Yes. Black restaurants, Asian restaurants, Mexican restaurants, they all do that because only browns and yellows are allowed to showcase and boast about their racial and cultural pride and they don't have to include whites of any kind.

Ultimately the fact that fewer and fewer people understand it with each passing generation is a testament to how things are improving.
Albeit gradually. But you look at shit in the 80s and 90s and compare it to today. What used to be fucking Jews with Guns and 6 kids vs Puerto Ricans with guns and 6 kids vs Blacks with guns and 6 kids vs Slavs with guns and 6 kids is now millionaires from Michigan, California and Texas.

More like a testament to propaganda losing it's power.

I think both failed at de-escalation and the issue is failing the prisoners gambit when two parties are required to mutually de escalate

Right but we can throw a bone here

Black Restaurants have mirrors on the wall and shit anyone stupid enough to demand a picture of their ethnicity will look at the mirror and be satisfied.

Hold the phone, this ain't the right movie for us to be throwing anything.

Realistically the italian guy would have had a gun behind the counter and he wouldn't have given Spike Lee's stand-in a cent when he came to beg for cash in the aftermath.

Buggin' Out

Becomes meth kingpin

Sure and maybe they could get a picture of Captain Planet and the Planeteers or the Burger King Kids Club while they're at it.

That's the point. The title is a call to action. Though IMO Sal should've called the police immediately instead of smashing the boom box.

wypipo must gib reparashuns

it's a retarded film for retarded people. hollywood is all hacks and not worth watching.

ayo here comes innocent tyrone

And all they had to do was go to another restaurant dipshit

Breh you're defending the unreasonable aggressors. You've got nothing to stand on

We are containing them

Asking for the money in your cash register is an unreasonable demand. Talking decorations is within the bounds of reason.

its about how americans are cucks to black people

The film presents that as him doing the Italians a favor because otherwise they would have been killed by the angry black mob. But Spike Lee doesn’t realize that this makes blacks look unreasonable and barbaric.

Emotionally charged mobs are unreasonable no matter their racial makeup, but I don't think it was within the scope of this movie to show us that.

Oh no, it's a black mob... and on the other side of the street there's a white mob! And down that alley there's a brown mob, and just around the corner there's a yellow mob! Now here comes the red mob flanked by the olive mob, and they're all going crazy!

All Sal had to do was open a restaurant in a wh*te “people” neighborhood

Making demands in the first place is unreasonable. And they went about it in an unreasonable manner by shouting and being confrontational

You are listening to RADIO STATION, where we play A LIST OF EVERY NOTABLE BLACK MUSICIAN EVER

implying negros are people

Toppest of keks

I agree. That one customer was an asshole, and he should not be beholden to that one customer. But he also had plenty of customers who aren't assholes, and if it helps him keep in good standing with them, then he should still appreciate a good idea even when that good idea comes from a bad source.

Anon have you never read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie?

plenty of customers who aren't assholes

They fucking burned down his restaurant.

oh better put some photos of black people up so the peaceful blacks in this neighbourhood don't burn my shit down

Lol. Lmao even.

Yes actually you would want to go a little but out of tone way to ally yourself with the local population as a business owner especially if you are running that business in a place capable of or willing to perform vigilante or mob behavior. Whatever this implies about this neighborhood or its people, is up to you

Literally shyster propaganda

the moral is that living around niggers is asking for trouble
"Do The RIGHT Thing" is a call to action, calling for all non-niggers to unite on the RIGHT side of history, publicly burn down every portrait of Abe "Niggerlover" Lincoln and send them all back to Africa. That's the right thing to do. If you're not doing that, you're NOT Doing The Right Thing(TM) and you deserve to get raped by a pack of niggers.

Propaganda against a welfare state is a good lesson for children.

Whatever this implies about this neighborhood or its people, is up to you

No nigga its up to them. Which is why all the adults get confused at the movie title.

The movie’s title in no way shape or form implies only the non-black characters need to do the right thing. The movie is called what it is so ypu can wonder what all of them should have done right
