The pacing is insanely rushed, seemingly just to get to the (far less revered) sequel novels that Takahata didn't adapt the first time around. Matthew is going to die in episode 10. In the original anime, that happens in episode 47.

Frieren is the tranniest of tranimes. Cutesy graphomaniac style with most typical character designs, everything is overlit, it also mistakes good animation/style for over detailed backgrounds. It's the most generic storyline possible, the le immortal being struggling with people dying around them is very trite. It's also the most typical structure - le zany joke - edgelord crap - le zany joke - edgelord crap. I swear, the reason this crap is shilled here (aside from the most obvious coomerism like with most shitty anime) is cause a bunch of Redditors think the show is racist, so if Redditors hate something we must shill it!
Shit like Frieren is visually plastic and soulless, manufactured slop, and in narrative it's borrowing ideas from somewhere and doing nothing with them, this a typical example of stagnation of the medium. The best anime was once borrowing things from the west to expand on them add something that feels fresh and original. Cowboy Bebop actually feels like something of substance and something that's "alive", both narratively and stylistically. And to compare Frieren to Ghost in The Shell is straight up laughable. GitS is an actual arthouse movie, Frieren is shonen slop.
