I intend to watch, read, and aurally consume every piece of Doctor Who multimedia storytelling in chronological order. It's been a long-standing goal of mine. Right now it's just Short Trips and 1st Doctor Adventures and a couple of Companion Chronicles slotted between Hartnell episodes. I expect it will become really messy around Tom Baker.

Show's dead but I'm perversely satisfied by how the attempts to 'diversify' the Doctors has backfired. Back when Whittaker came there were people genuinely optimistic that we could finally get something different and move towards a future where anyone could be the Doctor. 7 years later this experiment has failed and has seemingly solidified the idea of the white male 1-12 Doctors being the only 'real' ones, because as soon as it diverged from the 'real ones' the show derailed itself completely.

it's finally over
What a big, beautiful mess. Throughout this whole season, I've been wondering, "What happened to Russell T. Davies? Seriously, what the fuck happened?", and I think after watching this two-parter, I think I'm willing to chalk it up to him simply being older, and, perhaps, gentler. That's all. Lots of writers lose talent the older they get, and I don't think Disney having a significant financial interest helps either. I have some more thoughts on this that I will include in the final notes for this season in the tier list.
I think that bringing the Rani back is fine, and Archie Panjabi delivered that 80s arch-villain performance so well that it really did feel like the Rani was brought straight back from the old series. It was pretty cool to watch as a fan of the classics. Millie Gibson also delivered a great performance throughout, especially in The Reality War. I hope to see her in other, better things in the future.
I have nothing else positive to say about this. This finale, this season, this entire run, is uninspired, underwritten, and woefully overproduced. Doctor Who functions well within certain limitations, and this entire run of the show so far has proven to be nothing more than just self-indulgent nostalgia-bait with hardly any real substance.

Final notes: With all the money that is (or, apparently now, was) going into the show, it's not at all surprising that there are too many cooks in this particular kitchen. Despite RTD being the showrunner again alongside his longtime partners Phil Collinson and Julie Gardner, this short, painful season is plagued with thin characters, nonsensical plots, yet earnest performances from talented actors that should be doing anything else but whatever the hell this is.
I seriously did not enjoy watching most of these, but it's been nice to find time to do this again. I'll try to finish up where I left off at Series 8 sometime soon. This time, I'll be watching the show with my kid who was just born. :) Till then.
