I love this movie so much. I have to watch it every year and I just finished my yearly watch. I love everything about it. I love the casting, the acting, the way it was shot, the plot, the setting. Just not a single thing about it is boring. It's a 10/10 for me. Do you agree or do you think I'm overrating it?

I think its mid but you can rate it however you want. General consensus is on your side.

Fun film but still a bit too popcorn blockbuster for my noir taste, Chinatown is still peak

Unnecessary love triangle.

I agree, it's great.

Nah berry good moobie.

The love triangle was contrived to fuck with Bud.

think its mid

Literal dumb zoomer

but still a bit too popcorn blockbuster for my noir taste

I can actually kind of see what you mean here. Chinatown and LA Confidential are both tied for me.

Why the hell was it even set in LA?
Would've been more kino if it was in a rainy Chicago or New York.

For me, it's Glengarry Ross. Comfy rainy city atmosphere, kino Pacino and Spacey performances, and overall great acting and writing on display.

Same here

Yeah its a pretty comfy noire movie set in LA.
Guy Pierce is the weakest link of it all.

pierce patchet paid kim basinger to fuck both bud white and guy fox to mess up their investigation and to black mail them

Pay attention next time

I like it, strong cast but the ending is a bit generic

Why the hell was it even set in LA?

Are you retarded? Ever hear of a guy named Raymond Chandler?
LA is THE noire setting. The glitz of hollywood crashing with vice and corruption is primo shit.

That's not interesting though, it's really generic and cliche and been done a billion times before.
Also Kim is a charisma vacuum and makes the whole thing tedious as fuck.

Bud was a freebie. She really liked him as shown when she brings him into her private bedroom, not the room where she fucked everyone else. Pierce got her to fuck exley to mess up the investigation by getting Bud to kill exley in a jealous rage. There wasn't blackmail involved with those two.

If you love this movie so much and you have been watching it every year for many years, why did you only make this thread now?

I calling you out on your BULLSHIT, fake fan!

Guy who runs dope, porn, and runs a prostitution ring wouldn't try and black mail cops to kill their investigation

God, you're dumb. This basically happened in real life btw

Your reading comprehension is awful.

There wasn't blackmail involved with those two.

Time for another rewatch for you

wins

fucks Crowe's Girl

gets promoted

meanwhile Crowe got a ex?-whore gf and became almost a cripple

It´s certainly one of the best neo noir movies out there for sure.

Fucking a man's girl isn't something to be proud of. You're supposed to back your bros

it might be guy pearce at his peak, crowe and spacey deliver great as well. its also got an interesting story with a decent twist. Id say its worthy of a yearly watch.

this too

room temperature retards just now finding out Pierce P, Danny Devito, and Captain Dudley were all working together to blackmail everyone else

No, I agree. It's peak noir. I love it, but Chinatown and Double Indemnity still reign supreme.
To all the noir heads, you should check out The Sweet Smell of Sucess.

Why is this dude having a melty lol

Rainy night cities are what define NOIRS. If you set your noire in LA, have it do with Hollywood, or else it's not even worth it imo.

What do you think blackmail is? They didn't need to blackmail Bud with anything since Stanley had made him his creature after the Christmas party beatings. They took pictures of exley fucking Kim to show to Bud, not to blackmail him.

Also Kim is a charisma vacuum and makes the whole thing tedious as fuck.

Let's just be clear about 1 thing to avoid confusions regarding your sexuality. if you do not want to fuck kim basinger, you are 100% a homosexual. she is peak noir femme fatale like Veronica Lake

Very good, pushed off the peak of mount kino by the clash of Spacey and Ritchie's elevating acting vs. Kim Basinger's shitty acting.
The Rollo Tomasi thing really was great, even all those years ago. The subplot with the kidnapped raped chick probably needed to be rewritten.

Noir heads should watch Blast of Silence from 1961 instead. Lonely hitman in NYC during Christmas with a second person narration flimed in B&W

ctd. also David Strathairn crushes it here as he always does

See now you're just being a white knight simp.

Captain Dudley was hoping Bud would kill (murder) Exley, you fucking retard. Then they were going to use that as an excuse use to shoot White on scene.

Jesus Christ, get a clue

I'm a man, what do you want from me? I want to fuck hot bitches

How did anyone watch Spacey in this in 1997 and not immediately know he was a fag IRL?

I immediately knew he was gay in that one episode of The Equaliser I saw him in.

Any more recommendations? I'm typing all this shit down

has a movie review ever pissed you off so much that you wanted to strangle the person who wrote it in real life?

Quads for hitting the quads spot.

Sorry too black for me

I didn't want to say this myself so I'm glad you did it for me. Thanks

have it do with Hollywood,

You mean like LA confidential does?

Here are some kino neo-noirs

Klute

The Friends of Eddie Coyle

The French Connection

Killer Joe

To Live and Die in LA

LA isn't noire

you're a fucking moron, bro

Gonna peep this, ty

Under the Silver Lake
The Third Man
Burning
In a Lonely Place

I remember seeing that one got mad. I like the one with the wizard of oz reference though.

Angelheart
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Last Man Standing
The Long Goodbye
thats a schizo as fuck list, but different flavors of noir. Angelheart and Midnight having a nice mix of southern gothic.

Blast of Silence is a great actual hidden gem. It's incredibly bleak and the second person narration gives it an otherworldly, dreamlike quality.

Anyone remember its developmentally challenged cousin Black Dahlia? Same author.
It arguably killed De Palma's career. What a hilarious train wreck.
