I think that now that budget and technology has improved they should redesign the Darlicks properly I've been watching the adventures of Dr Who since the episode with K9 and Giles from Buffy in it so I've been with it a long time and seen my fair share of Darlick episodes.

Timeless Child fudges the premise of the show at a fundamental level that you basically have to ignore or actively walk back to continue with. This is a showrunner too in love with his old greatest hits - less damaging in isolation but an insane thing to do twice in as many years. I think it'd be much less bothersome for Piper to be cast if it *weren't* RTD in the driver's seat, but given he is, this feels like narcissism on his part.

RTD's chicanery isn't great but of the other shit he's fucked up;
- Nobody was itching to bring back Sutekh, you can ignore the fact he was turned into a CGI dog that secretly sat on the TARDIS for almost the entire series and everyone will be happy to never talk about it again.
- There's an escape clause opportunity with the Rani via Mrs Flood if you want to use her again.
- He's trapped the Master in a golden tooth, but The Master has been trapped in weirder shit before.
- Bigeneration and the Pantheon of Gods could never be acknowledged again as you can read the "No more wishes" lines in these episodes as ending RTD2's myth arc'.

On the other hand;
- Chibnall's Timeless Child plot dumps are a bigger problem for continuity than 'the Time Lords are sterile now'. You can't have the Doctor saying what regeneration they are because it automatically begs the question 'are they really?' and 'Are we ever going to resolve that?'
- Chibnall re-destroying Gallifrey after Moffat brought it back after RTD destroyed it means you have to leave it destroyed for at least a few series or it will become ridiculous self-parody.

It's not to downplay how stupid Billie Piper as a stuntcasting is, but if a showrunner has to pick up from here, he has a few options insofar as how to deal with her. Chibnall's fuckery is permanent and leaves future showrunners with less options.

- Canonizing his fanfics. Self-appointed mandate to 'update' the show for modern audiences, which he mostly succeeded at. This gave himself the excuse to do whatever he wanted with classic continuity, and I do remember oldheads grumbling about this shit during his run. Hs 10 and Rose were fanfic-tier characters. Didn't really 'ruin' the series but often took it in a dumb direction.

Moffatt
- Clever attempts to harmonize canon. Moffat did canonize a lot of reasonably 'clever' ideas for various elements of the show, but his ideas were motivated by an interest in explaining what he felt were unresolved plot threads or ideas, bridging the classic and new series with firmer connections, etc. He was pretty careful with retcons and some of his cleverest ideas came from not allowing himself to just overwrite shit he didn't like, but attempt to connect the dots anyways. This is genuinely the best case scenario of what can happen when you hire a fan.

Chibnall
- Obvious disdain for a lot of series continuity. He wanted to overwrite established canon with what he thought canon should be, and cared very little to bridge any discrepancies between his era and the eras of other showrunners. Gave himself carte blanche to do whatever the fuck he wanted and had an agenda for series canon. This is probably the worst case scenario of what can happen when you hire a fan.

- I don't think the problem here is that he's a fan, I think the problem is he's out of ideas.
