Is Sideways an accurate representation of dating in middle age?
It used to be
What changed?
Well they did have wine in the middle ages. So it's at least historically accurate to some degree. But I doubt they had cars and dressed like this.
GRRRRRRR!
honestly, it's the best case scenario
No. It's worse. 99.9% of women over 35 are fat, have 5 kids, want kids, have crippling debt, or a combination of all of those. Good looking women, with no kids, with no debt, and a good head on their shoulders, are about as rare as finding a $100 bill on the ground.

Mostly the internet. It's poisoned this idea of finding a person IRL based on mutual interests, let alone coming to a maturity where you can overlook someone's more superficial flaws because you've both been through the ringer. Nowadays everyone has a chip on their shoulder, everyone's filled with resentment and surrounding themselves with people and content (whether intentional or algorithm) that support their feelings of resentment. People are either giving up on people altogether or still trying to ask for the moon and the stars.
I knew a woman in her mid 30s that were all those things. She's now in her late 50s, never been married, still convinced her "Mr. Big" is going to come along any day now. She always had her life put together but even though she was high quality, she didn't quite understand that she wasn't the CEO/professional athlete tier wife material that she thought she was. Miles never would have stood a chance with her.
I want to bury my face in Virginia Madsen's tits.
For me it's Sandra Oh
Sideways is a satirical mockery of the American wine culture.
Beneath all the pretentious bullshit Paul Giamatti's character is just a pathetic alcoholic and the spitting bucket scene is the crude, obvious metaphor for all that.
Good taste.
The movie is a lot better than the book because Miles has far more complicated and interesting problems other than simply having to acknowledge he's an alcoholic.
I've never come across a book so much worse than its film adaptation.
Prime Madsen was so fuckable it's ridiculous.
I hate those movies where the protagonist is supposed to be a loser (he resorts to stealing money from his mom) yet he can afford to wine and dine at nice restauraunts in the most expensive state in the country, has a model tier woman interested in him and has a chad friend to hang out with.
I couldn’t get over him stealing from his mom either.
I'd say so. Those kinds of women have been around the block and maybe married and they're pretty chill. Hanging out with other smart people talking about your passions is great. You can bang women without having to date for a month or two. I guess it just depends on what kind of person you are and where you live and who you hang out with.
I've had a couple of wild adventures not unlike in Sideways. With and without alcohol in my life.
Looks like you gave up.
I'm middle aged and women my age don't even look at me.
God i wanna fuck a black guy
Historical records from that time period are spotty at best
Seriously, why are there so many old people here? I always assumed that most of the posters here would be between the ages of 18-21. I'm 19 and if I saw myself posting past the age of 21 I would kill myself, so I can't imagine all these guys in their mid 20s and 30s using this website and feeling okay about it.
I hate to tell you this but you're here forever.
See you here tomorrow and in 5 years. I’m 40. You are here forever.
Where do you think you are? You're on a very old website on the old internet by and for millennials. This particular board is dedicated to discussion about television and film, something that no one under 30 is even remotely interested in. The few zoomers who are here are weirdos, shunned by their peers. Most zoomers doesn't even know what Anon Babble is.
I always assumed that most of the posters here would be between the ages of 18-21
This might've been accurate in 2006.
none of you will land a woman like that in your middle-age years.
I don't know about dating but it gets being a middle ages loser in the depths of despair spot on.
This movie was made a long time before dating apps. It was a different time.
(he resorts to stealing money from his mom)
yet he can afford to wine and dine at nice restauraunts in the most expensive state in the country
He's able to eat at those restaurants specifically because he steals from his mom. He bankrolls his trip by stealing from her. Plus Jack would've picked up the tab at a few places.
has a model tier woman interested in him and has a chad friend to hang out with.
These two are different though Miles and Jack are college roommates from a time before they tried to match people up with similar personality types so there would be yin and yang close friendships forged then that simply aren't anymore.
A model tier woman being interested in him is a stretch though to be fair he's lying about being a published author to a woman drawn to professor types.
it's a millennial website
Not really, if a woman is single past the age of 30 she is usually an absolute psycho to the point where even a redditor couldn't stomach her personality
Because we were here in our teens and early 20s and we've stayed here over the years while you have come. You don't get to leave, mate. You're here forever.
god those 30+ "want someday" women are so depressing. imagine how many great opportunities they threw away because they thought they were better than the man due to her own "education" or income.
Dang, you're barely even a zoomer. You're gen alpha. Leave now before it's too late.
My sister didn't have her first child until she was in her late 30s. She has two non-autistic children though I guess she also didn't ride the cock carousel either and married her high school boyfriend.
I fart too much to ever get a gf.
Women usually only get worse with age, and I don't just mean in looks. They're not like men who often become wiser and more mature as the years go by, women remain childish, spoiled and petulant their entire lives. The only thing that happens to women is they become more bitter and resentful because their Disney princess fantasy didn't happen.
Women fart too and when they become comfortable enough with you won't even bother to pretend they don't anymore.
it's over
how the fuck do you get married out of high school but not have kids for another 20 years. i bet they spent a fortune on IVF, because the odds of having one let alone two kids naturally in her late 30s are exceedingly rare.
it's just a roastie coping, it didn't happen
I never want to be that comfortable around another person.
dating in middle age
Why would you ever do this? The purpose of dating is that you find a woman to marry and have kids with. You are not supposed to still be dating in middle age. What exactly are you going to get from that? Some walled bitch with more baggage than an intercontinental flight. Maybe she has some kids already for you to look after. Fuck all that. If I get to middle age and I'm still not married and with a family aready I'm either going to fuck young women with daddy issues or I'm just going to accept being sexless and take up stamp collecting or something.
I need to hook up with a lonely azn milf real bad.
She fell for the career and travel meme and for the longest time she was under the impression that she didn't like children. Her husband would mention a lot that he'd like kids occasionally but she was just against it for years until doing a complete 180 on kids virtually out of the blue. I would never tell her this but I was a bit worried she was going to be a shitty mom because I'd never seen her show any propensity towards children but she's actually great. She adores her kids and they love her. Her entire life philosophies, priorities and basically everything shifted in the last five or so years. I guarantee if she could pay off their mortgage tomorrow she'd quit her job and be a homemaker.
i bet they spent a fortune on IVF
Nope. She was apparently set for a long battle but she was pregnant within a mom of trying. She has a friend her age who had a lot of trouble which is what made her think it would be trouble but I guess she was just lucky. No issues getting pregnant with either kid.
way too much effort makes the LARP completely obvious and unbelievable. further insistence that it isn't a LARP or that you "don't care if we believe you" makes it even more obvious.
