What is the darkest, bleakest, most depressing film you've ever seen?

I've seen a lot of dark, bleak, depressing films in my time, but I think this takes the cake.

a serbian film
no, I'm not memeing

Nocturnal Animals (2016) because it exposes the true nature of women. Tom Ford only got away with directing it because he's a fag.

Star Wars 8

The grand Budapest hotel
Don’t get me wrong it looked like people worked really hard on the film especially the settings but it was just painfully boring and didn’t have a climax

that's Anderson's entire filmography.

Let the right one in is the ultimate blackpill

Some of those Hong Kong Cat. 3 films are dismal. Also some Japanese exploitation movies from the 90s are oppressive and fucked up and I don't mean Miike.

philistines

Peppermint Candy
Ash Is Purest White
A Bride for rip van winkle
Mysterious Skin
An elephant sitting still

I had no sympathy for the main character he was a retard and got what he deserved. What the hell he think was gonna happen if he drank the bad guys coffee? What a dumbass!

The American remake with Jeff Bridges is even better than the foreign original, which doesn't happen often. Try telling that to a snooty film critic though.

This movie was so dumb, no one on the entire planet would willingly let the guy who killed their girlfriend serve them a drink laced with drugs.

Yeah Bridges was way creepier than the chubby frenchman

That was just on TCM last week. I agree, it's quite fucked up.
I remember renting the remake when it came out, being too young to know there was an original and there was no internet. Same director even. What a shitty version. But this one would have blown my mind as a teenager. Like when we saw Seven a couple years later.

Shame

It was good except for the retarded American-ized ending where the good guy bursts out of the coffin and kicks the bad guys ass and we get le typical happy ending which pretty much defeats the whole purpose of remaking since the bleak twisted ending was what everyone most remembers about the original

That doesn't mean he deserved it. No one deserves to be the victim of some sick nut. He wanted to know badly enough because he couldn't live with not knowing. It's so fucked up. I can't imagine all the shit like that that has probably happened throughout history that we'll never know about. That's what makes the movie so scary.

Weak bait.

Yeah and it plays with the movies theme of obsession, and how his obsession ultimately killed him in the end. Rex knew damn well he would be killed but his obsession with knowing drove him mad and Raymond knew he wouldn’t turn it down. Raymond being a true sociopath used his obsession to kill him, for such a seemingly normal seeming character he’s somehow one of the unnerving scary villains I’ve seen in a movie. This movie movie was unsettling as fuck the first time I saw it, wouldn’t leave my mind for days aftwr

His original girl was still dead and it closed in on where she was buried having gone through the same ordeal (and probably getting raped along the way as well, because gift horses, mouths and all that). He had wasted his life looking for her when she had probably been dead after a few hours. Its all bleak enough without having to have in spoonfed to you by having the bad guy win.

Children of Men
It’s been a long time since I saw it but for whatever reasons no one is able to get pregnant anymore. So there’s no hope they say. Then like some non white lady gets pregnant and she’s there only hope. Total downer movie

This made me feel like shit

WTF was his problem?

You guts wanna feel like shit? Watch a Warhol. Try Joe.

The same problem that drives most human evil: boredom.

The last 20 minutes of part 3 get me every time

Martyrs is an obvious one.

The original was up its own ass, and as was mentioned, the MC deserved every bit of what he got.

That Russian film with that cute girl. Forget the name

A lot of good depression kino ITT. But no one has mentioned Aftersun? That shit landed on me like a ton of bricks.

The Brown Bunny.

my coke dealer looks just like him, minus the glasses. he's a pretty good guy though

The Lost Weekend

Kiki's Delivery Service
