Why has the Vietnam war produced so much kino media compared to every other war?
Why has the Vietnam war produced so much kino media compared to every other war?
Cool soundtracks.
First war since WW2 in which Americans were clearly the bad guys.
Most Americans were against the war by the end of it which made making films about the horrors of its conflict more readily accepted by audiences. You won't find Hollywood making a Black Hearts movie or anything like that because GWOT was never as unpopular thanks to 9/11.
The draft
The future is going to be no draft, but an army of pressgangs.
It has so many routes to explore angles on war
any typical gung-ho pro-war action film can be done
explorations of popular resistance, including the draft
drafted/enlisted resentment, e.g. fragging
distant generals out of touch with the situation and context
soldiers in a nightmarish war, slowly going insane or getting into drugs
endless possible "grey" scenarios with no clear, ethical, best course of action
by extension, more fundamental questions about when/why a war is necessary
inherent aesthetic contrast of lush natural areas with mechanical death machines and incendiaries/napalm
force contrast between irregular semi-peasants and trained, equipped professional military
first war with a major press presence, introducing the dynamic of a military that is incentivized to overstep legal/moral boundaries to advance its goals, paired off against its necessity to maintain positive propaganda and control what the public is aware of
Because that's when movies and music became objectively good
First televized war. Next question
Why has the Vietnam war produced so much kino media compared to every other war?
It was literal Hell, and it left an impression on those who lived there and many in the world who never set foot there.
Why did muttoids even think intervening in Vietnam would work out well for them?
commie filth
cause napalm sticks to kids
youtube.com
LSD and Shrooms
Idk, worked out okay in Korea.
cause it was nuts
Why did muttoids even think intervening in Vietnam would work out well for them?
they thought chinks would fight like a normal army not like the sand niggers wearing civilian clothes and using their own children as human shields
sure dude.
boomers were artistically gifted
big budget movies tend to be american.
we will arm our children with gunz and tanks if the US is ever invaded I tell ya hwat
let's draft these teenagers into the war
FILTHY GOOKS! THEY'RE PUTTING CHILDREN IN THE LINE OF FIRE DURING OUR BOMBING AND NAPALM RUNS!
A-Agent orange is exaggerated!
Lying mutt
Idk, worked out okay in Korea.
because the DPRK had an actual army in uniform, once the enemy is clearly identifiable the US has no problem shit stomping any army on the planet many times over.
the problem is the US tries really fucking hard to minimize unnecessary causalities, see: iraq vs afghanistan.
iraq was rolled over in about 3 weeks with minimal losses, they were a traditional army.
afghan were cave dwellers in civilian clothes with ak47s, and let's not forget one of the biggest embarrassments of all time for Russia was also when they attacked afghans, they just go to their caves in the mountains and wait it out, if you aren't willing to wipe them all out you won't win.
I don't think it would be possible to wipe them all out, as you say, in either Iraq or Afghanistan. And if that was the strategy most of the rest of the world would eventually do something about it, see what's going to happen to Israel now the UK and Germany are abandoning them due to public pressure
US lost Afghanistan because the only way to win was to kill literally everyone.
The vast majority of the civilian population had no interest in supporting the americans and their objectives, when the US troops left the remaining supporters were overwhelmed within hours due to being outnumbered so heavily.
there was no need to wipe them all in iraq, their army stood 0 chance and got annihilated in a short time, we had tanks rolling on their capitol within 2 weeks.
in afghanistan the US wanted to build relations and have another country besides israel in the middle east that was a democracy friendly to the US which is why they stuck around for 20 years and kept trying to build them up. problem is they just want to be musilm camel fuckers in the desert forever and don't give a shit about living a more western capitalist lifestyle.
the reason osama was able to just walk out of afghanistan into pakistan was because the bush administration wanted Afghan police/military to capture him to make it look like a joint effort to build relations in the public eye, the US literally didn't try to capture him.
the Afghans flat out didn't give a shit about any of it and just let him through, massive misread of what the middle east wanted by the US.
was basically just writing that
The opposite, actually!
afghan were cave dwellers
You know that whole shtick about the afghans having super bunker caves in the mountains with Weapons of Mass Destruction was a hoax right?
nice chatgpt response
Kino uniforms
Kino time period
Kino soundtracks
we won when we took the capital
You're a retard. You're also a retard for not understanding that neither the Iraqis nor especially the Afghans want the US setting up the government in their respective countries and that's why there was constant fighting. You bring something nobody asked for or wanted and when you meet resistance you blame the resistance for being too stupid to accept what you're willing to give them, which they don't want and didn't ask for.
Neither of those wars were just, the Taliban told the US if they can show the proof that Osama did 9/11 they'll hand him over and no proof was given instead the invasion began, and the Iraq war was a complete lie about womd. It's good the US lost both those wars it shows the world they shouldn't be intimidated and look now at Yemen the Houthis fought back wrecked a few fighter jets and the US backed off
Harder to propagandize when there's so much out in the open about it.
The jungle aesthetic works well with psychological horror. It's the same reason that MGS3 is the best game ever.
You're also a retard for not understanding that neither the Iraqis nor especially the Afghans want the US setting up the government in their respective countries and that's why there was constant fighting.
never said they wanted it.
Neither of those wars were just,
never said they were justified invasions
and look now at Yemen the Houthis fought back wrecked a few fighter jets and the US backed off
welcome to Trumps art of the deal foreign policy
I reckon foreign legions, too.
Would solve the refugee crisis.
Because the Yanks lost.
Moral grey area war
Moral grey area war
nothing morally grey about stopping the spread of communism which directly leads to suffering of overwhelming majority of the population
They decided to let heckin professors take the reins of war and thought they couldn't lose. Every aspect from the Potempkin villages to agent orange to the hearts and minds campaign was effectively redditors trying to run a war

I never said you said either of those things you absolute retard. Why did you think I really brought those points up. Only to illustrate why the US really lost
Only to illustrate why the US really lost
maybe you're too autistic to understand i was referring to the US military.
iraq was one of the most overwhelming military victories in history and was the last time the US fought any actual opposing military.
if you just wanna say the US lost because geopolitics, there's nobody disagreeing with you anywhere, just swinging at shadows.
This. A diegetic soundtrack for Korean War would be ass. Vietnam has peak war is le bad songs. GWOT has peak jarhead songs.
gets directly quoted
I never said you said either of those things you absolute retard.
kek
sure dude.
quagmires create conflict
conflict creates kino
I'd argue there is as much or more kino about WW2, but thats only because so many participants has made movies.
Das Boot for example.
Why Murricans have made most kino movies about Vietnam is because they are the only participant that can make good movies. I only know of, one? good vietnamese film.
das boot was average
