I was in this kind of situation multiple times since I have been a quiet and skinny nerd for my entire life. I held my ground against guys who used roids, guys who outnumbered me and guys who were in cars and could have ran me over. It wasn't hard because I didn't feel fear, just a ton of hate. Not the meme seeing red rage, just hate. An overhwelming desire to hurt them. I felt like grabbing the heaviest thing around and hitting their heads over and over with it. It's not like I thought I would win, I wasn't dumb. I knew I was the weaker side, I just didn't care. I cared more about hurting them than my own wellbeing. That was the only thing I wanted at those moments. Anyway, some of it must have been visible in my face or my voice because the other side always ended up de-escalating, posturing a bit and then backing down.
Again, this is not me saying that my gigachad, trained in gorilla warfare "psshh nothin personnel" aura scared them over, I just think that people hesitate when they see that the other guy holds nothing but irrational malice towards them and things will grow beyond just throwing a couple punches.
