I've been telling you guys for months now that Alfonso Cuaron is not directing Bond 26 and all reports linking him to the job are false or exaggerating. He held informal meetings which quickly made clear just how off-base Cuaron is with Amazon's wishes and desires about how to reboot Bond. He not only wanted to continue the Daniel Craig way of Bond but wanted to double-down on it, making Bond in the vein of "70's paranoid thrillers like Marathon Man or The French Connection" and was adamant about this bold re-invention which soured Amazon immensely. David Heyman tried to convince him to take the backseat but he was unrelenting. Amy Pascal and Heyman (and Amazon MGM at large) want a classical and "people-pleasing" Bond away from the subversions and trope-breaking of the Craig years. They want a Bond that appeals to the youth but also long-time Bond fans by taking the character back to the Connery-Moore-Brosnan mold instead of Craig and/or Dalton.
David Leitch, Ilya Naishuller are the main contenders for the job. Drew Pearce was tasked by David Heyman and Amy Pascal to write the script along with a partner. No Purvis and Wade returning. The most likely option is Naishuller because Leitch already has two films lined up with Amazon MGM which were in pre-production long before Bond 26 developments.
YES, that Omega partnership is because Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the new Bond. No, it does not ruin plans for a big reveal which is planned by Amazon in the coming months. They want the film to be close to shooting before revealing the project to the public. A release date of late 2026 is very feasible since they want to start shooting by the end of summer. For context, Casino Royale was still shooting 4 months before it released. Naishuller is known for directing action comedies like. BUT there's also the possibility Leitch could commit if shooting is postponed but Amazon wants it to happen yesterday. They're going 100% deep into Bond 26.
