I unironically hate all the nostalgiatard subhumans who keep crying about modern media but instantly go

ACKSHYULLY THAT WAS GOOD AND TOTALLY NOT AT ALL LIKE MODERN SHIT TEEHEE

the moment you bring up Buffy.
Fuck you. Literally everything bad about the awful modern media can be traced back to this piece of shit and I'm tired of seeing you retards instantly jump to its defense because you grew up with it and it made you horny, so "it doesn't count". Every time I hear how Buffy was "a good show" or "one of the best shows of the 90s" all I feel is the urge to strangle that fat balding soicuck Whedon with barbed wire.
Everything is your fault. I hope Joss Whedon gets raped by a group of big melanin-enriched gentlemen for the irreparable damage he and his cult did to the writing.

Kino tho

k-k-kino

Thanks for your shitty input, you're a worthless retard.
Hope you get killed in a brutal manner.

I also disliked girlboss reddit raisin, all the defenders are either onionsboys or just in denial about their childhood raisin being already pozzed

I think there's three types singing praises to this shit.
1. Genuine soi faggots.
2. Nostalgiafags with shit taste as stated by the OP.
3. Spineless cucks who want to criticize the state of modern media, but don't have the balls to go all out fearing it'd make them sound "sexist" so they and have to pull this apologetic "see I don't hate ALL female-led action shit" bullshit in an effort to appease, which is honestly pretty pathetic.

God she's so beautiful bros.

No one is saying that Buffy is that good. Like it's good, but it's tier bellow Supernatural, and much bellow series like Sopranos or Prison Break or The Wire or The Shield or Dexter

a fictional character is literally so based that he somehow wins a war of wills with his own creator that intended him to be a loathesome strawman

What do we call these guys, Rorschaches?

spoike.jpg - 550x555, 87.9K

Buffy was a good show. Angel was better. These two remain some of the best superhero media on the small screen.

Fuck you Buffy's good!

No one is saying that Buffy is that good

Not what I've seen.

or Dexter

Kek, Dexter is total slop. It's borderline capeshit to the point that in came as no surprise when several writers of that trash moved onto actual capeshit much later.

Kino tho

superhero media

So, yes, it's total irredeemable garbage.

Yeah it's dogshit and anons have shit opinions.
More fresh news at 11

Actually that was good and not at all like modern shit

Most "conservatives" these days are simply liberals from the late 90s-early 2000s, completely fine with Second Wave Feminism and all the zeitgeist from that era

Not what I've seen.

Well you ain't seen shit.

Dexter season 01,02 and 04 are all kino. Dexter season 02 is top tier.

I wasn't asking for your shit taste.

Buffy is Spider-Man done right.

defenders of this awful garbage can only ever bring up capeshit

Figures.

I guess I'm number 2.
But seriously its hard to find unpozzee tv shows.
Why don't you tell us what's better, OP?

This retard already did Except Supernatural (cringe trash for women) and Dexter (just plain awful cringe trash)

Have you watched Buffy? It's quippy and self-aware like nowadays shit can be, but it also knows when to be sincere. That's what makes it different. It wasn't some committee-approved slop to please audiences, it had an authentic vision that often proved controversial, but remained earnest throughout.
Whedon isn't the problem. The problem is subpar writers trying to emulate his style but with no actual creativity or vision to have a sincere story to tell with that style. That artifice is what results in hollow movies and shows that rely on non-stop quips to engage audiences.

t. Faith

And you have a personality disorder that will make you forever unloveable.

2000's Marvel comics tried to ape Whedon's style & failed every time until he joined X-Men.

Have you watched Buffy?

Yes, and it was trash.

muh sincere

earnest

Nobody cares about your retarded buzzwords.

it had an authentic vision

It had a soifaggot vision of a worthless fat manchild who wants to be stepped on by women and ruined the media as a whole.

Whedon isn't the problem.

Yes, he is.

The problem is subpar writers

So, Whedon himself.

You retards already canceled his career with the made up metoo shit. This board also attributes WAY too much to Whedon, like the first Iron Man didn't have quips and he created the concept of girl bosses, stupid, nobody gives him more credit than his haters.

Buffy is a great show, your zoomer brain is just too fucked from modern "television" to appreciate it.

TV peaked in the 90s and early 2000's, simple as.

WhedonSpeak isn't the problem.
Bathos is.

muh zoomers

Older than you, nostalgiatard faggot.

Buffy is good though. Cool thread, OP.

Thanks for providing no arguments whatsoever. If you really can't understand why something like season 5's story is sincere, or how Buffy is overall totally different from any given MCU TV series, then there's nothing to be gained from replying to (you).

raisin?

this fucker ruined male characters for me, no one can live up to SPOIK's standards

Well I've seen all those shows, so now what?
Buffy is kind of comfy like Star Trek Voyager.

Absolutely correct.

Also correct. Shows like Twin Peaks, X-Files, and Buffy were the peak before things got too far up their own ass in trying to be "prestige."

canceled

Lol. I'm glad that happened, it was one of the most hilarious things to ever happen

years of "LOOK AT ME I'M LE HECKIN' FEMINIST ALLY"

"WAHH WHAT DID I DO, I DON'T DESERVE THIS"

Peak comedy. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
You don't deserve arguments, especially not if you think "muh season 5" was in any way good.

muh "sincere" buzzword

Fuck off.

Did somebody ask for the show that was great in its own right but absolutely ruined the television industry by everyone trying to trend-chase it?

download.jpg - 1200x777, 98.22K

complains about non-existent buzzwords

Take a shower

older than you

I doubt it

yup
it's saddening how the whole concept of episodic tv show just died

file.png - 928x515, 1002.99K

Can season 3 be skipped without missing anything?

m-m-muh sincere

m-m-muh earnest

I'm totally not using buzzwords

Take your own advice. And the shower should be in the Auschwitz.
1993 year of birth. Now cope, you fucking turbofaggot.

as I thought, I've got 10 years on you.

I think GoT was the main culprit there rather than the Sopranos or Breaking Bad

Star Trek

I don't even have to insult you.
The only way it could get worse is if you're also a Doctor Who fan.
Cool, now go back to the retirement home, faggot.

That was my first post itt. You're here saying sincere and earnest are buzzwords and then using an actual buzzword in soifaggot. You are a dickhead

Parts of it were terrible girlboss tripe, but Whedonesque humor wasnt awful until everyone started aping it and being dated doesnt make it bad no.

Trvth nvke

Characters like Spike are just good and interesting no matter which lens you use

Oh yea? I've got 20 years on him son

Maybe it's because old times actually have the movies when to in order to be for what you see you have to express in the between for what you you actually are. Learn this.

Not my fault Joss Whedon is an archetypical soiboi. It's no longer even a buzzword with how much he fits the description. It's actually kinda scary.

quippy and self-aware like nowadays shit can be

It's also genuinely funny, when most shows are not.

I don’t disagree, but I would say that before the first Avengers blew up in 2012, it was just one guy’s particular writing style. After that, it became THE template for every millennial writer to emulate.

I also say all that as someone who has never watched Buffy, nor do I have any interest in doing so, so I have no particular dog in that fight.

That first part is true. Joss Whedon's cancellation was a tragedy of his own undoing. In regards to Buffy and Angel, for seven years he helped and nurtured Charisma Carpenter, getting her an acting coach on set so she could do something akin to acting, and moving her over to the spinoff so Sarah Michelle Gellar would stop getting annoyed by her lack of professionalism. His reward for all that help was Charisma changing her appareance every other day, getting pregnant and not deigning to tell anyone, and fucking up production almost purposefully. And when he gets upset and fires her, he's made to be an abusive monster because that's the world he helped create: a world where you can't hold women accountable for their actions.
I really hope he's been able to reflect on the irony of his situation, but I doubt it. It seems to be his blind spot.

Whedonesque humor wasnt awful

Yes, it was. Whedon's idea of "humor" was always obnoxious insufferable smugness that makes you want to see all of his characters chopped into pieces.
Spotted the soifaggot.

this is how i feel when people talk about 28 Days Later, which is one of the most uber-"woke" movies ever made. Alex Garland and Danny Boyle are also literal commies and I gauruntee their views then are identical to now. "I LIKED DA ZOMBIES AND DA CUTE BLACK CHICK" is not an excuse. Kill yourselves.

Brainlet detected.

Seethe, troon.

Reminder that Halle Berry fucked this Whedon line up because it was supposed to be cringey and insecure and she delivered it "badass" instead
Picture how Sarah Michelle Gellar would have read it, the creeping insecurity as she realized that she had no idea how she was gonna end this boast when she started making it, that in the heat of combat she had walked herself down a verbal dead end

Hell, look how Nathan Fillion did it in Firefly

You wanna run this ship?

Yes.

Yeah, well... you can't!

Your misery brings me joy.

they all get BLACKED btw dear nostalgiafags

Yeah, I know trannies enjoy the suffering of actual males.

the chudsquad won't tolerate it

file.png - 1009x576, 779.36K

Every time I hear how Buffy was "a good show"

Huh? How often is that? Is this some kind of schizo poster? Are the posters in the room with you now OP?

brings up trannies out of nowhere

You will never be a man.

nice pic of OP

but call it a tranny and you will be astonished at how he recoils, how injured he is, how he suddenly shrinks back: "I’ve been found out"

Kek

I see all the onionbois nostalgiasquad is circling the wagons ITT
how utterly pathetic.

OP BTFO and can't take it

Fool for Love, The Body, Once More With Feeling and Beneath You are peak serial media.

Meds, seriously

Goddamn, why do all these zombie movies have such interchangeable names?
I wanted to call you a faggot, until I realized that the one I liked is "30 Days of Night"

I'm not OP and all y'all doing is the equivalent of covering your ears and going "LALALLALA" and what zoomers do to defend the new uberpozzed shows aka posting gooning images no matter how low quality
It's just pathetic.

Many such cases

well OP i'll give

sopranos

six feet under

home movies

name 3 shows currently on the same level.

he's 100% right

What the fuck is "woke" about activists unleashing a zombie plague or any of the events of the movie? The lead female being black and the soldiers being rapists?

farscape

episodic tv

I'm always happy to meet a fellow fan of the show, but still...

I think any movie or a show about a girlboss is automatically shit
Simple as.

I might rewatch firefly this week

the woke part is the hate on the native british population, males, and the forced inclusion of the girlboss Negress and her mandated worship, dipshit

stronk black woman who kills white friend and then instantly moves on

a bunch of primarily white rapists who get slaughtered to a man by the hero

original ending involved woman leaving hero dead in a hospital bed without a second word and this was changed at the last minute due to studio mandate

btw, the ending was repurposed for Ex Machina (involving a female android leaving the hero to die) and Garland EXPLICITLY said the ending was supposed to be about "her empowerement". Your entire defense boils down to "Oh well it says animal activists are bad so that means it isn't woke". Incredible, this definitely isn't an extension of "i liked it when I was a kid so it's okay"

513_1000.gif - 447x261, 2.88M

I have never seen someone get skinned so many times they showed that in the intros over and over again

The only way it could get worse is if you're also a Doctor Who fan.

I could never get into it.

I'm not sure I qualify as a "fan" of Star Trek, given that I spent most of my life not watching Star Trek and only watched most of Star Trek in 2020 and afterwards with my parents during covid and my dad is the real fan, I just find it comfy without giving a fuck about lore, i dont know if that changes anything.

Anyway what do you like? Show me the way, and I'll watch the shit out of all your favorite shows.

no they don't you have brain damage

I mean there are so many planet of the week episodes, only in later seasons does the plot take precedence. Farscape, X-files, Buffy, Stargate, I don't know how to define this type of tv but it simply doesn't exist anymore

A lot of episodic shows have overarching plot elements in them.

your entire argument boils down to

well the cute black and little white girl were saved by the white protag, b-but she was black!!!

faggot

TV has been hijacked by talentless nepobabies.

I didn't need a "defense" since I was only asking for evidence of an unsubstantiated claim. And apparently all you have is a woman being a ruthless bitch and some stuff that wasn't even in the movie.

youre about 10 years behind the times, sure that was the case for a few years, it sucked

she isn't even "cute" in the slightest, you are mentally ill

It was cool seeing him own his new look in the comics

warren.jpg - 483x600, 57K

that subjective, I think she's cute you do not. Did you actually have anything to say?

A: She's repeatedly emphasized to be stronger, more reliable, smarter, and more leader-like than him.

B: She murders her white friend and then instantly forgets about him. Yes, the circumstances were justified, but the script purpose is to emphasize the world is moving on from their type.

C: She's only taken prisoner because A BUNCH OF MOSTLY WHITE MEN WANT TO RAPE HER AND A CHILD

D: Said rescue originally ended with the hero dying and her walking away with a white girl.

Do you not see obvious contempt for English culture when the original end of the movie is "And then every single English male died and the black woman walked away with the last white girl."

By this retarded logic, literally nothing is woke as long as a white man does a heroic thing in the script.

Not your point, but
I feel like movie sequels in general have interchangeable names.
If you saw all the Die Hards or Dirty Harry's but forgot the title it would be difficult to impossible to infer which title refers to which plot based on the title alone, except for Magnum Force.

Halloween 3 was such a flop that marketing was anxious to remind you Mike Myers is in both 4 and 5 hence nearly identical titles.

I sometimes have trouble remembering if Matrix 2 is Reloaded or Revolutions.

Ash vs Evil Dead is a stupid title since every Evil Dead movie had Ash as the protagonist.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Terninator 3: Rise of the Machines are both redundant titles since judgement day and the rise of machines are common themes to the whole franchise from the first movie.

Did you actually have anything to say?

did you? you essentially just posted the usual nonsense "durrrr makes me 5" dick feel good= not woke"
you are just a demented retard

What hair suits her best, white, red or black?

kino.png - 1920x1080, 1.71M

Buffy was always mediocre and it's only propped up by nostalgia. The main actress clearly just fucked a bunch of Hollywood producers who hyped her as the next big thing, and she flopped as soon as the show ended. Whedon's other shows were better and The Avengers was also an improvement over his previous shit. Whedon got kicked out of the industry for being le sexist but he is a major influence in modern media anyway.

stronger, more reliable, smarter

nope none of those just more ruthless and has a better understanding of the world as out protag has been asleep for...28 days.
As for the rest its clearly you have mental problems, she literally asks the protag to kill her if she is turning, its zombie rules ou are an idiot. Over all you are just displaying the most childish puerile nonsense. The og ending they were desperately trying to save him then he died and she made the decision to live for the kid, you haven't even watched the alt ending have you?
You are by your own retarded logic a complete fuckwit reading into things that were never their. You are part of the problem.

I will never understand what kind of man could unironically watch slop about stronk women beating people up and not feel even a little bit ashamed of himself.

so you didn't have anything to say and you haven't actually watched the movie and you are just in this sperg spiral of childish insults and nonsense. Got it.

if Buffy of all characters in fiction makes you feel insecure thats really your own issue

The problem is that American television doesn't have its own Evangelion. Game of Thrones seemed like that but the later seasons were largely dogshit.

ur insecure

Woman-like retort.

The show was also popular with women.

no really thing about it Buffy makes you insecure. Buffy really? sort your shit out

as someone who watched it I don't follow the analogy

Yeah, but nobody cares what women think.
Women have the shittiest opinions and tastes in pretty much everything.

No I'm just someone with an understanding of the world you absolute trog. I've seen literally everything Garland has made lmao, he is as insanely leftist as they possibly come.

complete fuckwit reading into things that were never their.

You can quite literally look up Garland's quotes on woman and feminism and everything I'm saying is backed up. This was all intentional and there is a quarter-century of quotes from the man I'm criticizing that shows you it was intentional.

The og ending they were desperately trying to save him then he died and she made the decision

You can justify literally anything through writing. If I made a show that ended with "the minorities have to kill the white man or a bomb will detonate and kill all of them", would you be sitting her shitting out "Well the le script justifies it!"

You are the retard who thinks "Oh well media was epic and perfect until the SJWs attacked" and does not understand this was always brewing. The world was not a racial utopia back 1980-2000. You are just a childish retard and possible Mexican who probably watches Critical Drinker. kill yourself

anime fags gotta animefag, it never makes sense.

Sopranos was our Evangelion, right down to the neurotic rambling and the "nothing ever gets better and you won't improve" ending

How is Buffy a girlboss she cries 5 times per episode and loses her shit spending a day without a guy to hold her tight. She's just a teenager with super strength

I hate Sarah Michelle Gellar down syndrome face.

No I'm just someone with an understanding of the world

yea no I'm sure you like to think so.
You never really watched th3 movie you don't know what you are talking about with the alt ending, basiclly everything you've posted has been low-iq shit for plebs, I'm sure you could have a very successful career standing in a soapbox proclaining nonsense to plebs. Here however you are just a pathetic faggot who doesn't understand a simple zombie movie

more nonsensical gooner simp blabbering

ok, retard

The fuck am I even to say to a brownoid bringing up trannies out if nowhere? Assure you that I indeed have a dong and am rather happy about the fact? Post you a picture of my cock? Maybe you wanna give it a lick too, you fucking faggot?

why are you such a hate?

kino (2).png - 1920x1080, 1.8M

Holy seethe

ah excuse me my favorite yt told me what this movie is about so wake up sheeple ok?

1994 baby. I missed out on Buffy and Angel because I was more into Toonami and pro-wrestling. I only watched both series when they were available for stream way back and I appreciate Buffy for 2 reasons:

1) Good glimpse of turn-of-the-millennium fashion, music, and culture. Yeah I was alive at the time but I was a toddler in 1997 and still in grade school when Buffy ended in 2003.

2) The high school seasons with the Master and Angelus were god-tier. The mayor was kinda meh but I did like Faith being a failed Slayer. Freshman year in college was pretty kino too with a black ops initiative being aware of monsters and experimenting with them but I disliked Adam.

I do have a soft spot for Dark Willow because it was interesting to see all of her repressed emotions and rage finally unleash. The Trio annoyed me as characters but as concepts they were a good look at just how dangerous people could be. Especially the ones with enough self-realization of the world they live in, but too dumb and not powerful enough to navigate through it properly.

Angel, on the other hand, was consistently a better show in my opinion. Though I was kinda meh toward Angel's son fucking Cordelia and all that other jazz though the revenge for Angelus' past crimes is something I appreciate seeing how I also watched The Highlander TV series.

Joss wedon sucks dildos but those cheesy shows from the 90s and early 00s had sovl that shows today just can't replicate

no really you are intimidated by buffy? sort your life out, fucking hell

The rapist actions are understandable tho.

1996-2001 it's the end of the 1990s and it's largely shit
it was kind of a return to 1980s energy or something
true 1990s are before that

Why are women allowed to use the internet?

QFT

I saw all of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena, Pacific Blue, Jack of All Trades, Son of the Beach, The Man Show, Cleopatra 2525, Queen of Swords, Relic Hunter.

People weren't uptight back then I noticed and they featured gorgeous in-shape women.

Buffy is only good for half it's run, seasons 1 and 2 were putrid shit, aside from a few episodes, season 3 to 5 were the golden age, and 6 and 7 were when the show became the very thing it used to make fun of in the early seasons.

good thing that scene aired in 2001

whedon got canceled by the people he... created

Evangelion changed the industry so that original shows became more common and standards of quality improved bigly over time. That's how you get many banger shows with consistently great animation and direction these days. Studio Trigger only exists because of Evangelion for example. Before that good animation was ussually only found in movies and OVAs

Meanwhile American television is either pure slop that normies consume mindlessly or a prestige shit that no one cares about ever since Game of Thrones crashed and burned.

Selma Blair's head is so fucking big it completely distracted me from the kiss.

It's more smg has a tiny little head

I was more into crime shows like Miami Vice, Walker: Texas Ranger, Nash Bridges.
I think the whole "cops with cool guns and expensive cars killing hundreds of gangsters in shootouts" subgenre of crime drama to come back but I guess that wouldn't fly nowadays. I tried the CW reboot of Walker and holy fuck it sucks balls.
I did like Adventures of Sinbad far as fantasy goes, but I'm not sure if it holds up.

whatever it is, the size difference made this scene not hot for me.

*should come back

I have no idea what 1/2 the words you posted mean, I'm assuming you are super duper hyped about jap cartoons. Good for you.

Yes, I am the one seething. I am the one who made this thread to post walls of text about a show from the 90s and I am the one bringing up trannies out of nowhere.

Miami Vice

Saw that too. Seasons 1-3 were amazing. You can tell they didn't give a fuck by the last 2 seasons though the finale was cool.

Walker: Texas, Ranger

I tried watching this. It wasn't by cup of tea because it's formulaic. I did like how the series ended with that massive cliffhanger.

Nash Bridges

Been meaning to get into this.

Adventures of Sinbad

Oh yeah I saw a few episodes of this. You can't have fantasy like this anymore. No sense of fun. Everything is super serious and a deconstruction.

I also have a bit of soft spot for Legend of the Seeker.

All these shows I listed earlier and the ones you posted were either before my time or I was only a little kid and didn't watch them when they initially aired.

Nash Bridges is pretty much Miami Vice (even with Crockett's actor as a lead and a weird "crossover" where they team up with a character played by Tubbs' actor) but it takes itself a lot less seriously.
youtube.com/watch?v=mUFOIPt9VH8

My issue with Walker is how preachy it can get.
Not in a modern way preachy, but more like "characters stare in the camera and tell the audience that drugs are le bad or beating your wife is bad" kind of preachy. So villains are often one-note caricatures straight out of some PSA talking down to children. It's cool to watch Chuck Norris beat people up, but it can get too much.
BUT
Victor LaRue is a top-tier antagonist, and probably one example in the series where a villain being a psychopath works because he's an actually decently-written psychopath. If you don't like Walker at least give Trial of LaRue episode a try. It's a really great episode and really the peak of the whole series for me.

I never saw Buffy growing up, but watched Angel in college all the way through. There's just nothing else like Angel--one of the most comfy shows in existence. Wesley's character arc is one of my favorites in all TV.

Mad buttblasted tranny OP is half correct. This shit did start with Buffy. The show doesn't hold up for the most part. The good thing about Buffy was the amazing casting. I can't think of any actor in the show that isn't instantly likeable and with a really iconic unique look.
Every major character in Buffy could have had a spin-off and the actor would carry the spin-off. That's the strenght of Buffy. What completely ruins Buffy is the Jess Whedon writing style that has become the norm.

Okay boomer.

cool now go back tranime faggot

Trannies are the ones defending stronk woman slop, though

Every major character in Buffy could have had a spin-off and the actor would carry the spin-off.

Joyce couldn't.

but not buffy because they hate and fear buffy, see the idea of an actual good women proag scares the shit out of trannies

Everything from the late 80s to early 2000s is superior to everything before or after. All my favorite albums, favorite movies, favorite games, favorite anime and favorite TV shows came during that time. I used to think it was just nostalgia, but I think it was just a special time in history.

The USA and Japan were the cultural dominators of the world and the US was still 90% white. Technology was growing rapidly, but had not yet shifted into its parasitic form--media still used practical effects, boosted with burgeoning digital effects. Writers still wrote scripts that appealed to educated white people and not dumbed down for China or 80 IQ minorities.

All creative industries were dominated by red blooded men who told stories full of heroism, bloodshed, sacrifice and hot women--prior to the mass feminization of all culture. Even promo-feminist Buffy had well rounded characters, tons of fan service outfits and shots, and earnest exploration of traditional American values.

Yeah, but the anons calling her a girlboss never watched the show, so they're chimping out over what they imagine it to be.

Main cast is white and attractive

Main actresses dresses sexy every episode

Classic Good vs evil

I dunno man if this was modern we all know the cast would be ugly and the characters would give you a lecture every episode. The evil male gaze. Can't have sexy women being sexy and slutty on tv no more.

There's nothing like prime episodic TV from the 90s and 2000s. From soap opera slop like Grey's Anatomy, to kino like Stargate SG1, these shows succeeded by telling succinct stories before everyone went the "Breaking Bad" 12 hour movie route.

There's just something so satisfying about an episode starting with some sort of problem, some conflict, and you know by the end of 45 minutes that conflict will be satisfyingly resolved and every character will have grown by 1%... when played out over 6 seasons of 24 episodes you get to watch the 1% episodic growth culminate in huge character changes.

Now, every show is one stupid conflict with one stupid resolution dragged out over 8 episodes with cliffhanger nonsense to drag you along. It's so much less satisfying.

The evil male gaze

well the modern fandom hates Xander for being "problematic" so there's that

characters would give you a lecture every episode

My nigger, this piece of shit was nothing but a vehicle for Whedon to push his cucked beliefs onto retards.

It's an anime website bro.

To explain it in more boomer terms: Look at all the dudes in this thread nostalgia fagging about old shows that aren't made anymore. Meanwhile with anime I don't have that problem. When I was a kid I watched shit like Dragon Ball and Yu Yu Hakusho, and these days there are multiple successor shows to those two (ie Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer) and all of them have amazing production values and tight pacing. They take mid source material and elevate it by just putting some extra effort in the production.

It's an anime website bro.

lol you delusional Anon Babble faggots really believe that don't you? no it isn't trannie you have a containment board its called Anon Babble now go the fuck back

Joss is a spike and Buffy shipper. You dumb faggots keep spreading this lie. Every one liked working masters so they changed the character to a good guy. Which I still hate. He was better as a villain.

Buffy was always worthless garbage.
Congratulations on praising this shit, you contributed to downfall of everything you love.

there is drinking to cool-aid then their is making the cool-aid drinking the batch and then making more hoping others will drink it, holy shit Anon Babble faggot, FUCK OFF

thanks to this show every faggot writer adds therapy as a subplot.

you don't even comprehend how much of faggot you sound like do you?

jokes on you, I actually love girlbosses.

Buffy is tier bellow Supernatural

holy fucking kek

FAGGOT

Ex machina feels more like an anti simp movie than a female empowerment one. Don't take what writers say at face value at the end of the day they're men and all men chase pussy. Behind the mask of every male feminist is a pussy hound.

Because she's basically sent by god to sly evil dumb faggot.

So, who cares. At the end of the day it's still a bitch beating up men twice her size, something so ridiculous no men should be able to look at it without cringing.

It's a great show, why are you so triggered? Out of all the trash shows you rage about this?

gf leaves him for a Nurgle demon

God damn that must've hurt

To be fair, it's James Marsters pushing that retarded idea to come off as the coolest cast member ever, and in the words of David Fury, "I love James, but he has no idea what he’s talking about." It's an obvious lie if you so much as read or listen to any interview/commentary from Joss on any Spike-related subject.

Demons. Monsters. She fights fictional creatures with her super powers. Take a chill pill.

Wesley's character arc is one of my favorites in all TV.

Yeah but he's still a massive posh retard for not knowing what a self-fulfilling prophecy is.

Whedon is like Harvey Weinstein, Tarantino. Perverts who create art for men to jerk to. I'm sorry modern hollywood is forcing mid bitches like zendaya and that goblin from last of us down your throat but we had it good growing up.

Tarantino

Well, yeah, the entire thread is about him being an overrated hack who creates slop for brainlets.

Don't forget all those old shows had up to 2 dozen episodes per season. Nowadays the tv cucks barely scratch 10. Of course character development goes into the toilet.

Imagine being such a miserable, joyless sack of fat fuck you start Buffy hate threads in 2025. Imagine the sheer starvation for attention.

not you though you are refined gentleman with particular taste. Right?

All I know is Buffy started the trend of genre-savvy protagonists who walk through the story narrating every trope as it comes about.

Tarantino is a slut for BBC.

You can just keep your gay fantasies to yourself you know, no-one will miss it.

As a Supernatural fan when it first debuted in fall 2005, if the series had only been 5 seasons, Buffy wouldn't compare. But yeah it really dragged on though I do have a soft spots for Seasons 6 and 7 because barring some of the shitty episodes, they explored a lot of good plot points.

I stopped watching Supernatural once the angels fell from heaven in Season 8's finale. I was in my freshman year of undergrad and didn't have time to watch TV anymore. Plus the series just wasn't my cup of tea after Season 5. I only continued for 3 more seasons because I wanted to see what would happen next.

Oh I love LaRue. Wayne Pere is a very underrated actor. He was also Mr. Murray in the 2016 Roots where he plays a weak yet somewhat decent slaveowner. Complete 180 from what Victor LaRue was.

I actually think Return of LaRue is the best of the trilogy he's in. Trial was good, but Return was scary how fucking unhinged he truly was and he was VERY close to killing Walker. I mean shit, he literally had Walker on the ropes with those scorpions.

watch Churck Norris beat people up

My biggest gripe is that he rarely faced someone whom he couldn't easily defeat. He really needed a few opponents that outclassed him in skill and size/strength. That's what makes a fight more compelling because the good guy has to really dig deep and even get lucky to beat the bad guy. That's why I can rewatch Jean-Claude van Damme films over and over again because he actually got bloodied.

As for the preacyhness, isn't that a 90's thing? I noticed from watching recorded stuff from that decade there was a ton of PSAs and very special episodes in commercials and shows.

*ahem*

don quixote.jpg - 326x500, 55.65K

Not him but I remember flipping channels and seeing Walker had to fight a fighter that mastered KI like Goku and could kill people with one chest strike. Made it look like a taser coming out of his hand. I remember thinking he may actually last slightly longer than the normal. Maybe. They sending wizards after this dude now.

rarely faced someone whom he couldn't easily defeat. He really needed a few opponents that outclassed him in skill and size/strength.

I think that's an issue a lot of action shows face. Gotta have your hero look cool and sometimes they go overboard with that. Out of more recent shit, Banshee was one show on my memory that actually didn't have an invincible untouchable protagonist.

it's all fun and games until the body hits the floor

Monster of the Week shows had a dreamy atmosphere that we got rid of for cliffhanger porn. We used to discover shows because we caught an episode from any season playing at any timeslot and decided we wanted more. That became impossible when TV shows became hyper serialized with six storylines all running at once.

OP is an edgy teen trying too hard to fit in and samefagging his own thread but he has a point, Whedon has always been a cancer on fiction
Firefly is also peak reddit and was canceled for a reason

These writers were writing 24 cohesive satisfying plots per season and today's writers can't write 1 clean plot with 8 hours of episode time.

But why are modern movie makers so lazy?
Look at Star Trek: TNG—1 year per season, 22-26 episodes per season, solid writing, acting, and effects for its time. Babylon 5. One year for season, 22 episodes per season. Now compare that to House of the Dragon—2 years to make what, 8-10 episodes?

Apart from the faggots around hollyweird getting fatter and lazier I am guessing shit like inflation and unions made production ever more expensive until so they cut episodes to lessen expenditure.

Every anime girl is a clone of two Evangelion characters.

As much as I adore TNG, they were able to crank out that much content by having many assembly line episodes that relied on a strict formula and used stock assets like sets and actors. The result was an episode so safe and forgettable, it vanished from your memory as soon as it was over.

Somewhat true, but keep in mind that a lot of episodes in House of the Dragon or Wednesday or Stranger things feature just people talking. Not every is packed and memorable.

she looks 30 in the movie.

Since we're doing the whole "Hollywood is cheap nowadays" talk
Shows nowadays look really ugly and lifeless. I don't know whether it's something with the color grading or anything else, but in old shows a sunny day felt like a sunny day, like you could almost feel the sun and the wind. Look at a daylight scene in any show made today and it feels so artificial.
I'm not just schizoing out, right? Somebody else understands what I'm talking about?

At least TNG didn't crash and burn so hard in its final seasons that it became infamous for it world wide.

You don't have any logic. You see what you want to in a small part of the script and completely ignore parts that contradict your headcanon, while insulting people who point them out. Even if there are one or two parts where you have a point, the fact remains that it is not in any fashion "uber-woke". Any sane person can easily watch 28 Days Later without feeling like they're having a message shoved down their throats, which is not something you can say about a lot of recent media.

I think I know what you mean, though I can't describe it better either. It's like the remove a bit of colour to make the show feel more gritty and realistic?
But yeah I don't watch many shows but I suppose I can compare stuff like Angel and Reacher from memory and Reacher does feel less lively somehow, even if the resolution shot through the roof.

Yes and no. Squid game is colourful and well shot. Chosen has amazing cinematography, but on the other hand, quite a lot of shows like Dance of Dragon or Stranger Things indeed look meh,

Always talk for yourself fag.

I actually theorize that the serialization of TV shows raises the stress level of the modern TV watcher rather than providing escapism and relief from life's real stress.

In an episodic show, the episode starts by putting you on edge, by establishing some conflict, then the conflict is resolved within 45 minutes. Stress and release. You turn the TV off satisfied.

With a modern TV 8 episode drama, the series takes 7 episodes of slowly cranking up the tension and stress. For weeks you are left irritated. The cliffhangers episode endings only make it worse, leaving you with more questions, more minor stress about what will happen... then with a final conclusion in the finale... which they are now turning into cliffhangers too! So you might have one conflict (what will happen with the White Walkers) drag on for YEARS without any satisfying resolution.

This may seem small, but the modern audience is adding imperceptible stresses to their every day lives by watching modern TV rather than enjoying the satisfaction of a whole plot told in one viewing from the old episodic structure.

What joy do you really get from watching a modern drama except release from the stress the last cliffhanger episode left you with?

Blame the “fix it in post” mentality for everything looking so sterile.

Whatever it is, it really fucks with immersion.
I'm not even sure if it's intentional attempt at grittiness.
I can't remember a single Christmas episode of any show I've seen in the last 5 years that looks half as colorful and lively as any Christmas episode of some random sitcom from the 90s.

How the fuck do you watch Angel, but never watched Buffy? Full retard.

They stopped shooting on film. In 2008 90% of the top grossing films were shot on film. By 2013 it was about 50/50. Since 2018 90% of movies have been shot on digital.

Digital loses all of the nuance of light and they try to compensate with filters that ruin things even further. Everything is adjusted and tweaked in post. Why set up complex and expensive lighting for a night scene when you can just tweak it in post for 1/10th the cost?

You never watched it. You're a giant fag.

but the modern audience is adding imperceptible stresses to their every day lives by watching modern TV

Thankfully that isn't completely true. From what I remember of netflix statistics most of their audience watched shows from before 2000

when the based tradcath discovers media from before his birth and finds it isn't an endless parade of nazis screaming faggot and nigger while beating women

wait until you find out the religion of early hollywood trailblazers and producers

As good as media was back in that time, I can name 10 shows made in the last 10 years that are easily better than Buffy

Do it. Though I doubt they all combined have as many episodes as Buffy or Angel, even if they are better.

It's quippy and self-aware like nowadays shit can be, but it also knows when to be sincere

This basically. Modern media despises the mere idea of being earnest, so they ruin drama and tension with zoomer self-awareness, because god forbid we enjoy cheesy media unironically

Netflix should make a show that’s a love letter to 90’s television and watch how many people tune in

Shoot it on film with a 4:3 aspect ratio

10 self contained 50 minute episodes that end with the conflict resolved

No moral grandstanding or preaching

Demographically accurate representation

endless parade of nazis screaming faggot and nigger while beating women

That would make for great television though, unironically.

Too bad netflix is more likely to make a Hitler documentary starring Idris Elba as our favourite uncle Adolf.

I was around when this aired, and I never perceived it as exceptional. To be frank, didn't care for it either.

I was being hyperbolic now that I think about it. There’s probably only 5 that are better

This is a great comment.

I'm finally starting to let go shows if another season starts. Most of the time I think: 'Do I want to be put on a leash for another 8 weeks?'. I know if I start watching, I can't stop and I will be dissapointed and empty in at the end of the season.

Do it anyway. I am literally out of good shit to watch

I always saw the UPN ads for it when I was watching smackdown as a kid I never gave it a chance until 2 years ago, basically it’s a reminder that it existed in the last era where being a nostalgia fag was valid. Anything after that period, there’s very little to be nostalgic over, even if a thing is “good”

Punisher vs John Priest is what more cinematic and TV fights should be

Well Jujutsu Kaisen is gay as fuck so I don't have an issue with that.

Netflix shit

Marvel shit

Ehhhhh...

The thing you have to understand is that the media was not inundated yet with regressive shit. "Woke" shit was fine when it was not the norm. People say if Aliens came out now we would be calling it "woke" and that is probably true, but that is because it is the default for every movie/show now and not the exception like it was in the past. Most films/shows still acknowledged the reality that (white) men are the responsible, proactive ones but that there are always exceptions to rule.

t. least unhinged supernatural fan

Buffy is actually good though. The balance is just right and no, it´s not nostalgia. I have re watched Buffy and Angel several times since they released and they are just better than most of their successors and clones.

If you ask me why these are special i´d say it´s the characters progression. The transformation arcs are fantastic and the characters grow and gain a lot of depth as the show progresses. Everyone is flawed and goes to relatable life problems. Life really hits the characters way harder than the monsters.

Interestingly enough Buffy´s main character conflict revolves around the nature of the slayer. Yes, the slayer is an empowered female but that gift becomes heavier as the show progresses, it forces her to make a lot of personal sacrifices and it slowly consumes her personality and even her humanity. The show also always takes care to remind the audience that most times the slayer achieves the impossible is not because the power itself but because of who Buffy Summers is as a person.

So yeah, the show is absolutely in a different league when compared to shallow shows made today. Buffy earned her place through fire and blood.

Marvel slop

463324.jpg - 500x375, 44.76K

Buffy wasn't popular enough to be the problem though. Popular shows are influential. Buffy wasn't that popular.

Literally the only great shows I’ve seen in the last 5 years were succession and severance, there are others with maybe 1 great season and the rest not good

Buffy is actually good though.

Not at all, no.

It was worth a try I guess.

drinking to cool-aid

This boomer is so assmad that he cannot even write his own ancient memes correctly.

The characters and their arcs are nothing special. You're singing all these praises to a shitty tween drama, lmao. See, this is what I don't get. It's not even the best female-led series of the 90s.

Life really hits the characters way harder than the monsters.

Mostly because Whedon is incapable of writing a villain that's actually threatening without trying to undermine them in any way/make them into one massive joke.

they don't actually shoot on location anymore, so a "sunny day" is literally just a "day infront of a green screen with big studio lights"

y-you never watched it

Oh, fuck off. Your shitty show is nothing special.

Marvel is mostly shit but Punisher is vigilantism. More Death Wish than cape

I've heard people say Jessica Jones was "actually good and more thriller/horror than capeshit".
I watched it and it was awful and I regret wasting my time on it, so not falling for that one twice.

Tarantino is much more talented than Whedon.

Jessica Jones is shit. So is Iron Fist and and Luke Cage. Just google Punisher vs Johm Priest for a fight scene. Absolute brutality

Supernatural was never good.

You're singing all these praises to a shitty tween drama, lmao.

So you haven´t actually watched the show then, if you had you´d know the show only starts that way and all the tropes are just starting points that give way to deeper and more interesting stuff as the show progresses. Most of the teenage romance elements die out by season 3 for example.

silo is pretty good I'd have to think about whether to watch it or buffy on the desert island

Jessica Jones is for BPDemons & art hoes who hate their father.

Modern shows are supposed to be binged. The goal is to maximize consumption.

capeshitter still seething about Josh Wheaton

Joss Whedon is the epitome of a capeshitter.
You can clearly tell he never consumed anything beyond the most entry-level pop culture shit which he inserts into his own work. Hell, he even made actual unironic capeshit, you retarded fuck.
Let me try this again, there is nothing deep or interesting about your gay show.
Keep coping.

Two more shows that are more recent and objectively better than buffy:
Fringe, although it's not in the past 10yrs but I think we could allow it due to covid.
Wanted (2016 Australian)

I've dropped so many shows because I forgot the characters' names and how they were connected to each other. You can't leave a dozen plot threads hanging for two years and expect us all to remember who's who or what the conflicts are.

A lot of it is filming on location but there are plenty of ways to get good warm light on a set but I think some of that skill is just lost now. Smallville was great for getting nice outdoor shots at the farm, at least in the early years.
