RTD, which would’ve been unthinkable even two years ago. The warning signs were there when he brought Tennant back as a new incarnation back for the 60th.

I actually think the show could’ve been saved after Chibnall with the right replacement at the helm. Not only did RTD not undo TTC, but doubled down on it and added more stuff like bigeneration, gods, magic and skeleton Omega. The Piper reveal means that whoever comes next will inherit a much bigger mess than Chibnall left RTD. I no longer think the show is salvageable. The damage is too extensive to fix without a full-on retcon of everything post Moffat (which will never happen).

The narrative text of the show is so garbage that I don't believe it merits a lot of discussion. Usually such discussion makes sense if all parties agree that the story is worthwhile or fascinating, I don't think it's either.

Absolutely not. I say this as a fan who is really struggling to fill the void that this show has left, but Dr. Who is faring the best of those franchises in terms of quality. In terms of economics and future? Probably gonna get cancelled or reduced to yearly specials. But RTD's era has had its fair share of enjoyable and remarkable episodes- Boom, The Well, Dot & Bubble, Wild Blue Yonder will all go down as classics. At bare minimum, Ncuti and the writing made the show enjoyable to watch despite the constant cringe compared to the wet cardboard that was Vhibnall.

Star Wars actively shat on its iconic stars and fundamentally negated the entire arc of Episodes 4-6 by making Vader's sacrifice pointless. It is now reduced to the Mandalorian, which has itself been reduced to pumping out cash via Baby Yoda. The franchise refuses to explore any areas that fans like and Disney has decanonized all the writing from before 2010, just to create hollowed out versions.

Timeless Child and RTD2 finales suck but outside of Chibnall writing out Gallifrey for no reason, the 60 year legacy of the show isn't awful. You can watch any of Doctors 1-12 without the things that follow undoing or ruining them.

I blame the show's slow demise on the Tumblr boom in popularity combined with the bust of Capaldi not being a young hot twink for that audience. The show expanded to expectations of viewership beyond a realistic normal, and the budget swelled to accommodate it. But in television, budgets rarely shrink and the show has had to constantly keep up an unnecessary level of special effects and big name stars. If it just stuck to good writing, targeted use of budget, and small location sets, it wouldn't be having problems nor would the fandom be constantly irritated by tabloid drama and BBC discourse. It could've just kept being a niche thing with niche appeal outside of the annual family watch of a Christmas special.

They have terraformed an entire moon into a giant factory, and because AI is so effective there is a law in place that something like 10% of all people have to be employed or some shit. Theres even a character who has to work several months just to be able to afford a shuttle to see his daughter.
But none of this is the crux of the episode.

Instead a guy is radicalized by these circumstances and uses explosive bubblewrap to turn the packages into bombs, hoping the AI will be blamed and shut down and people can be employed again.
The AI subverts his plot slightly by blowing up his love interest, so the AI has killed someone.
At the end of it The Doctor gives a big speech about how the corporation and it's AI isn't evil, and how actually this guy is evil.
And in the conclusion the corporation pledges to employ slightly more people (no mention of the conditions in which theyre forced to work, or their pay lmao)

RTD's use of Tennant in the show is the worse thing to happen to it over the longterm.
It set up a whole new generation to have the complete wrong idea of that the show was supposed to be about. That wasn't helped at all by immediately bringing in an even younger Doctor to follow him.
All the soap opera bullshit has been terrible for a show that was supposed to be about fun fantasy sci-fi imagination. It brought in an audience that made it popular but didn't care about the core ideas in the slightest. And now the audience the show was supposed to have left it in droves, and the new generations have lost interest completely.
Thus RTD2 making a show for himself that pleases absolutely nobody.
