James Cameron next film is JOE ABERCROMBIE'S THE DEVILS
LIGHTSTORM ANNOUNCES THE ACQUISITION OF JOE ABERCROMBIE'S THE DEVILS
LOS ANGELES, CA (June 2, 2025) - James Cameron announces that his company, Lightstorm, has purchased Joe Abercrombie's latest book, The Devils, and that Abercrombie will co-write the script with Cameron. Abercrombie is an acclaimed novelist and screenwriter, and author of the bestselling First Law books which have been published in over thirty languages. The Devils was published May 6 and was an instant number 1 Sunday Times bestseller in the UK. It also just entered the NYT bestseller list at number 5.
Cameron says "How do I describe The Devils? A sharply witty horror adventure? An epic battle between good and evil except most of the time you can't tell which is which? A twisted, stylish, alt-universe middle-ages romp, where your best hope of survival is the monsters themselves? This is Joe Abercrombie in absolute peak form, opening up a whole new world and an ensemble of delicious new characters. The twists and turns come at a rollercoaster pace, and with Joe's signature acerbic wit and style. The Devils showcases Joe's jaundiced view of human nature, in all its dark, selfish glory, as told through some decidedly un-human characters. But of course, Joe always teases with the flickers of redemption that make it all worthwhile -- and ultimately quite heartwrenching."
He goes on to say "I've loved Joe's writing for years, cherishing each new read, throughout the epic cycle of the First Law books, especially Best Served Cold (LOVE IT!) and the Age of Madness trilogy. But the freshness of the world and the characters in The Devils finally got me off my butt to buy one of his books and partner with him to bring it to the screen. I'm looking forward to the writing process with him, though I'm certain this adaptation will practically write itself because Joe writes very visually, almost in scenes, and with a very cinematic structure. I can't wait to dig into this as I wind down on Avatar: Fire and Ash. It will be a joyful new challenge for me to bring these indelible characters to life."
Abercrombie adds "James Cameron has been thrilling audiences, including me, by putting the impossible on film for over four decades. No one can balance mind-blowing action and spectacle with gut-wrenching personal stakes and story the way he does. I can't think of anyone better to bring this weird and wonderful monster of a book to the screen."
i'm just glad he's making something other than stupid blue space cats movies.
he is also making a Hiroshima movie
Yes retard, it literally says that in the picture
Okay so Avatar 3 comes out this year, but what's the schedule for all this other stuff? He's still got Avatar 4, Avatar 5, Ghosts of Hiroshima (formerly Last Train from Hiroshima), The Informationist, and now The Devils (which is part 1 of 3)
He's got a lot on his plate is what I'm saying
never heard of it but I'm glad that fantasykino is back on the menu
You should try reading some Abercrombie, his stuff is pretty low on the fantastical but he's got great characters
He needs to fuck off with avatar. I understand it’s profitable but it’s also schlock.
I hope he make a First Law movie
I've not read The Devils yet but I would really like to see who got to portray Bayaz
There was going to be a Best Served Cold movie with Rebecca Ferguson but that got canned.
Borderline smut that one
fuck I hoped he'd make that hiroshima flick and school nolan and his inept tripe
I hope he'd make
The OP image literally says he's "committed" to that
yea that doesn't mean shit he might die in 2 years
HOW ABOUT A SEQUEL TO ALITA THO YOU HACK
Not his call to make.
vaxs status?
Plot: Involves a special force of "devils" – including murderers, magic users, and monsters – who are recruited to fight against an invasion of flesh-eating elves, with the help of Brother Diaz.
sounds......odd.
he should do the hiroshima thing and try for the oscar before he dies
He already won with Titanic, he doesn't need to chase that kind of trophy anymore.
Suicide squad DEI style
what if bomb was.... LE BAD
the only way he gets an oscar for that if the story centers around a family drama the morning the bomb was dropped, and Cameron is not capable of portraying human relationships
there's already a kino with that name
If he is ACTUALLY directing, then im in.
If he is just a producer and consultant - i dont care.
Vanessa Redgrave getting enemas...
He's come close to making that magic rapist movie with DiCaprio (Tom Holland later made it with someone else). And very close to Alita obviously. Wish he had made that instead of whatever this is or Avatar sequels. Alita could have been his absolute peak. Instead of the midness we got.
He's already said he'll be cowriting the screenplay with Abercrombie, not too much of a stretch to assume he'll direct, too.
Also if you can, I recommend tracking down Cameron's script for the Magic Rapist movie. It's insane a studio and DiCaprio signed on to it.
How profitable is it really? One or two billion dollars in revenue isn't a lot if the movie costs like 800 million dollars because of all the CGI.
it's about the dude who survived both Hiroshima AND Nagasaki
no that was irredeemable garbage
can someone post that one parody review of Abercrombie grimderp books? Shit was hilarious
The Devils isn’t very fresh. It’s stale fucking elves and werewolves and vampires shit. The First Law actually had some freshness and has 10 books of material to adapt. Devils has 1 book of a “trilogy to come” that isn’t very good.
This really makes no sense whatsoever.
I'd rather have more Avatar kino please. Sincerely.
fuck off
It’s the Dark Universe plot. I’m putting together a team. A vampire, werewolf, elf, magic user and some girl who may or may not be royalty. There’s some trench crusade vibe with Jerusalem at the center, not-Christianity with a girl savior, the demons invading Earth through portal are or team up with elves.
It’s kinda like that Max Landis book ripping off Shadowrun but set in the “medieval” world.
Film*
Lmao what the ACTUAL fuck????? Could anyone anywhere have foreseen that Cameron's next non-Avatar project would be a fucking Joe Abercrombie book?? Based Jimbo broke my mind yet again. Concerning The Devils itself, haven't read it yet -- I got about ~20 pages in and dropped it because Joe was firmly lodged in that annoying Tarantino-lite wisecracking register of his and it didn't look like he'd be dropping it any time soon.
If he's going to do this and also nuke Hiroshima then that's going to be a very long break from Avatar
Wait WTF James CAmeron FANTASY? Holy shit I waited my whole life for this and with the Avatar Technology it's going to be fucking insane? Is it going to be Ridley Scotts Legend but a visual masterpiece? I'm fucking hyped
sounds like the plot for some retarded video game
he might as well make diablo
NOOOOOO I NEED TO SEE 4 & 5 He said the twist is unimaginable and studio notes for 4 and 5 were just 3 words on a paper saying What the Fuck, I need to know what happens
John Malkovich, obviously.
i thought he was making avatar for 10 years?
i think hugh grant would make a great bayaz
*looks behind him*
oh no not dis shittu again!
NOOOOOO I NEED TO SEE 4 & 5 He said the twist is unimaginable and studio notes for 4 and 5 were just 3 words on a paper saying What the Fuck, I need to know what happens
Same. Don't want to have to wait another fucking decade. I don't plan to live that long.
fuck off
Nope.
I don't like your maths. 1b for an 800m is 200m profit that's a fucking lot of profit
sort of warhammer fantasy with the chaos but also alt-historical. I've not read any Abercrombie but I did give the first book to my brother, but I don't know if he can read
Abercrombie is normie-tier but in a good way which is pretty rare. And yes his characters are great
I thought he was doing japanese openheimer?
its a movie about defeating demons
I already seen enough hollywood movies where they refuse to portray demons as bad guys, i have zero hope for this.
