/tlou/ - The Last of Us general
what's the point of the lesbianism? what does it add to the story?
I didn't play the games.
Is it really this homosexual (the crusty shit in S1 and this Habsburg shit now)?
Repost in new thread.
You know I could understand it except they wasted most of Ellie's day 2 episode on inane bullshit
They don't actually leave the theater until about 15 minutes in and they don't actually have an encounter until they reach the factory at about 25 minutes in
They saw the explosion in episode 4. They could've started the episode with Ellie and Dina arriving in Hillcrest and did the entire sequence in 20 minutes ending with them finding Jesse and fleeing into the park.
It was entirely HBO being cheap by using a dark factory for the action in the episode.
they're just people
The crust thing doesn't happen at all in the first game, and Ellie and Dina only have their fling right at the start before Joel gets golfed
They're on the same road now just at different times
This show is a masterpiece.
creepy goblin
Bella won.
Would it add anything if they were a straight couple instead?
So this person has just been sitting there for 25 years with no sustenance? That doesn’t make sense.
No "I'm fucking dead anyway why would i tell you anything" "Because i can make it quick or i can make it so much worse" exchange
Can they do anything right
He's clearly one of the WLF soldiers who got infected down there not so long ago
They say in the show that Leon got locked down there when the peace treaty was broken.
So maybe 2-3 years ago.
Ohhh
This show is a masterpiece
So you've never watched, read or played anything good. Noted.
Mazin: We can't add the spores in the show, they simply can only work in the games!
Also Mazin:
So much for that
The spore shit just makes sense with it being fungus.
I dunno why they didn't do it in the first place.
muh gas mask pedro pascal
there would've been spores in like one part of the entire season
Kaitlyn's acting mogs Bella so fucking hard its not funny. Compared to her, Bella is just standing there with an expressionless face. How can people take this seriously and enjoy this?
Her acting is pretty bad too
They just wanted to market that Pedro was in their show as much possible (him being a popular actor is the only reason he was cast in the first place) and covering up his face with a gas mask would have hindered that. Ellie doesn't need to wear a mask so suddenly spores again.
Its so fucking stupid because they only needed like 1 or 2 scenes involving spores and a mask but money grubbing and cold blooded business idealogy always wins over sense.
I mean in terms of representation it’s pretty important
My disappointment with S2 turned first to frustration and now to anger.
They've taken the best-written game of all time no I'm not baiting and no I won't argue about it and crudely carved it up, rearranged it, shuffled it into the vague shape of something consumable as linear TV slop, probably written with the assumption that the viewer will be watching it while distracted by something on their phone.
You've killed us both
Did I?
Kaitlyn is the better actor but I fucking love how Bella delivered that line.
The excuse he used was that the way the spores worked was way too videogamey for him to be able to implement it on the show
Now i wanna see what he's gonna come up with to justify himself
There really wasn't any need for spores anywhere in the story in the first game or the first season. Not a single character was meaningfully impacted by the presence of spores, no named character died from breathing in spores, hell you don't even decide when to put on a mask or take it off. It's a filler mechanic and it makes sense why it was cut.
The only real cost in the decision was needing to rewrite a reason for Ellie to reveal her immunity to Dina, which is trivial when the infected can just bite lol
all it took for people to stop calling tlou2 the worst written game of all time was to make a show that they hate more
Man, the older versions of TLOU1 Ellie are nice.
Show watchers, do you think they're going do the Rat King or axe it? And how are they going to explain Lev not being a real LGBT person but a member of a religious cult who pretends to be a boy so she doesn't get married off to and raped by a cult elder?
They are quite obviously going to leave the rat king and Lev exactly as is. Especially now that they’re getting blowback from gamers about deviating from the original
I think it depends entirely on the viewership at the end of the season.
The ratking would be fucking expensive to do.
If the viewership really is dropping off then I don't see HBO wanting to spend the money on it.
Also we still havent' got a shambler.
Crust didn't happen
Damn humiliation ritual then
Especially now that they’re getting blowback from gamers about deviating from the original
Rat King is basically confirmed with this last episode, they chekhov's gunned the lowest basement floor already when they mentioned B3 and Ellie/Nora only went down to B2 and it was mushroom-infested and full of spores.
How did that talentless nepo hack ever convince anyone he was some gifted writer?
Chernobyl is borderline a masterpiece.
I dunno how he managed it but I'm pretty confident now that it was a fluke.
Scary Movie 3 is also pretty good desu
Chernobyl is borderline a masterpiece.
I dunno how he managed it but I'm pretty confident now that it was a fluke.
Same thing happened with the writer for True Detective. It's happened before, and it'll happen again.
Cast him
My ex-wife
*cue laughtrack*
Ron Perlman.
YO LIL DONNIE
nepo
Do zoomers just use this word to denote anyone they don't like? You can call Mazin a hack but he was working away on absolute bullshit projects and uncredited re-writes for years before he finally made it. He's the opposite of a nepotism case.
why does scary movie 3 has a 5.6?
it's one of the best comedy movies since like naked gun 2
Comedy movies always come with a critic rating debuff. Pretty sure the naked gun 2 has like a 6/10
this show is gay and sucks but im gonna watch it
Liked it more in the game
youtube.com
The show does literally nothing better.
The only scenes in the show that are better are stuff that didn't happen in the game at all. i.e. The talkshow scene, the Jakarta scene, Jackson fight
And I bet if Naughty Dog did those scenes that they would be better
will abby have hairy pits in the tv show too bros?
I like Dever but that scene wasn't her best either
Very possibly not, sadly...
The only scenes in the show that are better are stuff that didn't happen in the game at all.
agreed, I like the new stuff they put out and thought there'd be more of it. I don't see the point of adapting it 1:1, they should go the FMA route and change it up a lot more. If it's horrible the video game is still there after all.
Honestly... if they had a different actress for Ellie and stopped focusing on the lesbian love story and made it a gritty revenge plot, the story is good minus the ending.
this is a cool shot
Why did they introduce the weird "connected" fungus plot? No spores is 100% because some executive did not want Pascal's face covered with how much they were paying him.
What was with the end? I liked the fight with a debuffed Abby. Are you upset Ellie didn't kill Abby?
At least it's been a upgrade what they been doing with the WLF and especially Issac, who's already definitely getting a far better treatment compared to how wasted he was on the game
I really thought that the whole tendrils and "connected" thing was there to make up for the "loss" of the spores
I’m still seething that this post-apocalyptic wasteland is this egalitarian wet dream where women are equally as imposing and authoritarian as men. Really breaks the illusion.
She just gives up out of nowhere after fighting through all the Rattlers. Think it could have been done better. Don't have a problem with forgiveness being the ending, thought it could have been done better.
check early life
Mazin was born to Ashkenazi Jewish parents in New York City's Brooklyn borough in 1971
yup, this ones going in my nepo compilation
loses two fingers
loses family
gets injured
for fucking nothing lmao
Yes. My king deserved justice.
I know. Doesn't explain how people keep getting infected at high rates like spores does
That should of been the ending you get if you choose to kill Abby, not when you spare her. Makes zero sense.
How is Ellie playing Future Days when the world ended in 2003? It didn't come out until 2013. Does the fungus let her see into alternate realities?
They respected the tight shorts
All is forgiven
The song was very iconic in the game so i guess they simply didn't gaf
Why did they even change the time period to 2003?
The only notable difference is that it made Tommy a Gulf War vet but he could've easily been an Iraqi freedom vet and it would've made 0 difference
She learned being consumed by negative emotions like HATE and REVENGE will cost a person everything they hold dear. Druckmann has spelled this out many times. Look at how much HATE and REVENGE have cost the Pallis. That was Druckmann's point.
To make the first season in >current year
but it's not our current year... it's an alternate timeline that stopped at 2003 technologically
Didn't the Seraphites win the war? Think it was a radio that said the WLF got wiped out on the island
The first season took place in 2023. I think that is why they moved it up 10 years
Her butt did look good
They both lost. The Seraphites entire island was on fire. The Seraphites will probably have an easier time recovering because they live off the land anyway but neither group will be the same again.
Not entirely stated but they definitely didn't do so good
youtube.com
The Seraphites' entire village got razed to the ground with who knows how many dead. Most likely the survivors will just disband it, same as the WLF and whatever non-combatants were still at the stadium base.
On the podcast (which is mostly spoiler-free for viewers who have not played the game) episode for this last one, Maz and Druck basically confirm that yes they are doing the Rat King next season. At least twice, they refer to something unique on hospital level B3 which hasn't been seen yet
It impacts the 1st games simply by reducing visibility in some areas, accounts for increased infected like the generator basement and the dorm at the university and raises the players tension with those two things. It also provides for a number of story beats like the boston fedra soldiers being pissed people are sneaking out getting the cough when scavenging. It gives good motivations for lockdowns which then piss off the residents and makes both sides hostile to each other. It also proves to joel without a doubt early on when ellie can breathe it in and be fine, up till that point he's likely still weary of her immunity claim and his voice line about her breathing the spores proves it. It's a solid bit of story for the world still being dangerous when looking for supplies and new infected popping up without everyone needing a bite. Walk inti the wrong house or basement and boom, you get turned.
There is no way they aren't doing the Rat King, it's the most memorable part of Abby's half of the game, despite it not having anything to do with the rest of the story. They already set it up by saying there's three basement sublevels and Nora only got chased to level 2, level 3 is sealed off and was ground zero for the original outbreak patients.
Aye. It was so fucking epic.
Dude's got the vide
literally made for BAC
the best-written game of all time
For what it's worth, I agree. Or the most maturely written, at least. I think Bioshock has a more interesting setting and story but it does get campy. TLoU is unique in that it never falls into that schlocky writing style that even the best-written games tend to have.
ty anon I never noticed this bit of radio chatter in my playthroughs
trying to watch
all I think about is how much I wish Ellie was a hot actress (like swap Ellie for Abby) so I can see Dina and Abby kissing
think about how much I was Dina to use my mouth as her toilet and spit in it too
Elliesisters...
That's the sad and funny thing. Video game writing is so uniformly terrible that a competently executed basic cable zombie drama outclasses 99% of the market.
Do you think Bella secretly hates Isabela for being so pretty and cute and nice and feminine and likeable
Story?
Today I will remind them
youtube.com
dina exists in the game to serve as an example of Elile losing her loved ones going after revenge
Can someone AI Cailee into every Bella scene in s2 already? Imagine the outrage this would cause.
what does it add to the story?
that frumpy, hideous, pan-faced hermaphrodite who played Lyanna Mormont in GoT
trash liberal communist gay ass fucking faggot show
Why couldn't Ellie just learn to play the guitar left handed at the end of the game?
Someone could, but I don't think AI video modification and deepfaking is good enough yet. It would be seen as unconvincing slop.
In a couple years it will probably be possible to do it and make it seamless though
Whether or not she does that, it's unfortunate how she leaves the guitar leaning against the open window instead of at least putting it back in the case.
As if letting it succumb to water damage is her way of letting go of Joel
Why don't societies ever rebuild in zombie apocalypses? Couldn't they just secure a base and slowly clear out infected and continue to expand?
all this cope about "well why does it matter who we cast as ellie, you're not a pedo right???"
every other character is cast to look like their in-game equivalent
make it make sense shills
Abby? Dina? Tommy?
every other character is cast to look like their in-game equivalent
This is not true, you just don't see many complaints about it in other cases.
Even Joel looks pretty different from the game version, as Pedro has those Latino facial hair genes and can't grow it thick enough
ripoff of Annihilation
Honestly how will they proceed with the third game
Couldn't they just secure a base and slowly clear out infected and continue to expand?
These stories never take place on a long enough timescale for significant expansion to be necessary but they do show such things happening in Jackson.
It is indeed similar imagery but the first TLoU game did it before that
I aren't watching this slop after The Critical Drinker review
I think you have to do a totally different ensemble
it's even worse than his review
Ellie seeks redemption for her sins in Part 2 (real or perceived) and tries to make her life "fucking matter" the way she wishes Joel had allowed in Salt Lake.
There is a second playable main character who we haven't met yet, Abby appears in some supporting role but not as a playable protagonist.
Abby
Ellie
Dina
Joel
I haven't watched the show aside from clips and scenes on youtube but those four characters look nothing like their game counterparts. I did play through both games twice.
third game
Naughty Dog is finished. They cancelled all the planned DLC for TLOU2 and Interstellar is the most tone deaf attempt to cram every single trend people are completely sick and tired of into one game I've ever seen.
Cute jewess
Intergalactic, you mean.
I don't see people being sick of retrofuturism, with stuff like Alien: Romulus and the Fallout show being big successes.
We've barely gotten a glimpse of the gameplay, all we know is that there are robots and something resembling a lightsaber
No way man everyone loves ugly mystery meat dykes with shitty attitudes
open episode with two women as commanders/leaders
Like we don’t have enough feminism crap
Also, why the fuck is Ellie is happy?
natural gas baaaaaby
People say that she and Game Dina don't resemble at all, i think they both have at least one big and round thing in common
Why do they curse so much
the leftoids love this so much, they truly believe they'll be heroes in the upcoming apocalypse, little do they know they'll be corpses on day 1
Intergalactic could be promising
The dialogue exchange was so fucking weird
see dead scars
dina gets sick and Ellie regrets bringing her
dina tells Ellie the first time she killed someone
has to CONVINCE Ellie to get her revenge
Didn't Naughty Dog actually tone down some of the semitic features of the mocap actress who played Dina? I think they smallened her nose and made her look less like a hot Israeli woman soldier.
Most definitely not. They didn't include her tits however. And Shannon Woodward did mocap for face and voice, the face model was only that, a face model.
They totally shrunk her cute big schnozz and chin.
Jess telling Ellie to shut the fuck up was pretty cool honestly
It's just a different angle
They didn't shrink her schnozz and they used her as the face model specifically because she has a big one and looks Jewish.
Jesus that’s a big one
The face model isn't even Jewish.
You're face blind. They shrank the model's nose. It was a minor controversy when the game was released in 2020.
She has posted stuff about doing ancestry tests, and hinting that they revealed she is indeed very ethnically Jewish, even if she doesn't have an immediate familial or religious connection to it
where’s Abby anon
How do you respond?
Is it weird I actually enjoyed this episode aside from the beginning?
stalkers were cool
scars were cool
ellie sneaking in and killing Nora
Not that bad honestly
Yeah it's decent. My main gripe is that the way she kills Nora, even though it closely matches the game, is a jarring shift in tone and demeanor for the show's Ellie when she had only killed one other normal human in Seattle before that.
I actually found it the worst episode so far, and I unironically have enjoyed all the other eps because of Moner.
Is she the one Ellie chases down and murders when Nora is unarmed or is Nora the lady Ellie sneaks up behind and knifes?
This is Nora.
Abby up my ASS, gump!
Lmfaoooo
I would have loved to also see one of those big scar brutes from the game kek
I actually found it the worst episode so far,
Really? Worse than 4?
True, though I also feel like Jess coming at literally the last second to save Ellie and Dina was pretty cliche and cheap. Plus three dialogue is still really awkward
it’s haunted but empty
Oh, so like us
The scars are also just a little too cartoonish for me to take seriously
*ahem*…”the chopped of us”
Arguably she didn't murder Nora, rather Nora killed herself by running into an area filled with spores.
Bravo chud
Jewess modeled after the most Palestinian looking chick
what did they mean by this?
"Huge" budget
Flagship show
Only 7 episodes
2/7 episodes are filler
this doesn't mean anything
Thanks. Who is the woman Ellie sneaks up behind and slowly and quietly knifes? I think the woman is listening to an Ipod and Ellie sneaks up from some flooded area indoors somewhere. Was she a random baddie? I remember that part being ugly violent and it felt like something from Manhunt. I finished the game in 2020 when it came out but I don't recall some of the details.
Her name is Whitney, she's using a PS Vita (lmao) when Ellie grabs her. She's not a member of Abby's crew and never really does anything outside of that one scene where she dies
death to all vita owners
Oh yeaahhh. I remember her but totally forgot that she is in the game at this story point. Why did they leave her out for the show? Why is Ellie in the show not killing people and killing dogs?
Game
Veins already protruding all over her body and showing clear signs of infection from the spores
Show
Literally nothing lel
It was already bad enough that a lot of the infected clearly looked like regular ass people with some makeup there and there but c,mon
this is the level of acting gamers believe is better than Bella Ramsay
lmao
Because they know the chud criticism was right and they are correcting course. It was dumb how in the game Ellie kills 100 innocent people just to spare Abby at the end
NNNNGGGNNNGGHH
BRAAAAPAPPPPPPPPSHFFPP
*plop plop*
ahhhhh
The weirdest thing about the game was that they expected you to feel bad about Ellie killing those dogs. Enemies will call out the dog's names when she murks them sometimes. I love animals, but come the fuck on. They're trained killing machines trying to tear her apart. I'm sure those zombie dogs in Resident Evil were really nice and friendly to their Umbrella handlers too, but that doesn't mean I feel bad when Chris and Jill blow their heads off.
here I'll summarize for you:
Game
shit
Show
grounded and psychologically realistic
Fuck. That was dumb
Yeah I can't believe she bought a PS Vita either, Ellie
That's the one. Ellie in the game is evil and I still think TLOU2 has some of the most disturbing violence in all of vidya. Is the show Ellie in S2 really not a crazy unrepentant killer like game Ellie in the webm?
Game
crusty shit
Show
chopped shit
>Show
>grounded and psychologically realistic
lol
TLOU2 has some of the most disturbing violence in all of vidya
disturbing like the violence in the Saw films, where you just watch them and go "oh I'm supposed to be shocked by this", but the material loses its ability to emotionally resonate because emotional attachment to the characters is compromised.
you can get away with that in a game because there is gameplay to make up the slack, but its not good writing.
The only people that Ellie has killed so far in the show are 2, by that time in the game Ellie already has a kill count on the dozens
therapists in the apocalypse
What is this Mickey Mouse shit
Show Ellie is weird. She doesnt seem to care about getting revenge that much and feels like shes just going on a roadtrip with Dina across the country, being silly and making out. I dont remember season 1 because it was so forgettable, but in s2 Ellie has only killed one person so far.
uses example of the characters literally talking about character psychology
ironic.
I wouldn't call the average WLF soldier or Rattler "innocent," though most of them hadn't personally done anything to Ellie or any other Jackson people before they got in her way.
Remember, most Wolves are willingly obeying Isaac's orders to invade Seraphite Island and kill everyone there, including children
Put therapist in show
This show is deep now
Seriously?
Yet she spares Abby the top scar killer and sadistic torturer
Nah, I mean the violence you mete out against other humans is unsparing and stark. It isn't stylized like Saw except when you're fighting the bigger mold men. I'm not commenting on the story or writing.
Ellie is written as a character whose inner conflicts are dramatized by how she behaves, instead of being just a force of nature who is in a series of cutscenes to justify you taking over to run around shooting stuff.
when Druckmann decided he wasn't going to end the story with killing Abby he immediately made the story about the inner conflict instead of it being on the level of a Steven Seagal movie. the trouble is that he did it clumsily and in a medium where you're expecting to shoot 200 people on the way to the final boss.
don't talk about character motivations just make everything about basic "X kills Y" conflict
show is really fun and entertaining now
no. because its a show not a video game.
the presence of mushroom people in the story makes all the violence against humans stylized, because there's always a greater threat that the humans are ignoring in order to focus on petty tit-for-tat squabbles which squander their resources.
and I'm leaving how that this episode featured actual ritual disembowlment with a sickle.
It takes out the possibility of Ellie passing her immunity genes to her children. The immunity dies with her. Joel only saved her, not her decendants or humanity.
They really ended up taking a LOT of Ellie's bite now, Dina absolutely shouldn't fucking need to motivate her ass to keep going
Technically in the game Ellie only has to kill like 2 people. You could theoretically avoid everyone else.
In the games Ellie's immunity isn't explained, we don't know if it's a genetic trait that could be passed on as you say. In the show it's definitely not genetic, it's because of infected tendrils passing through the umbilical cord immediately after Ellie was born. Marlene knew this and theoretically could have made more immune people by sacrificing their moms immediately after they give birth
lmao Dina seems to have leeched away the vengeful drive from both Ellie AND Tommy, who barely seemed to care that his brother was killed, instead of him wanting to one-man-army the fuck out of them and bolting for Seattle ahead of the others
if Dina doesn't have a scene where she takes personal responsibility for being there, then Ellie is more responsible for putting her gf in danger. that makes her look like more of a monster and raises difficult questions about whether she even cares about Dina, which is a problem given that caring about Dina is meant to motivate Ellie's redemption and implied catharsis at the end of Part 2.
one reason Jackson getting fucked up in the second episode was such a masterstroke is that it motivates Dina not seeing anywhere as safe to raise her kid which makes taking absurd risks while pregnant less unmotivated. she can't take revenge on the cordyceps but she can on humans who showed up at the same time, and in her head that's a way of making Jackson "safe" again.
Craig Mazin is better at this shit than he's getting credit for.
I honestly expected them to stubbornly stick the game in every way. They were so hostile to criticism for years and it’s funny that they went and changed everything about the story that the “chuds” complained about, vindicating their criticisms
1000 bucks says they don’t make Ellie spare Abby because of a single little flashback in the middle of their fight to the death. She’ll be super conflicted far before that and lev will wake up and beg her not to kill Abby, paralleling Ellie begging for Joel’s life. Screen cap this
I disagree with your premise. The violence you as the player dishes out against humans during the gameplay is played straight and it was intentionally designed to be unpleasant and to make the player feel uncomfortable.
yeah, this was one the dumbest plotholes in the show. The whole point is that Ellie is so motivated and obsessed to kill Abby that she leaves Dina. How the fuck is this going to work in the show if Ellie seems like she doesn't give a fuck about revenge and Dina has to motivate her?
Replayed TLOU2 recently, it was ludokino. I'm not pretending anymore that it was ever bad. The writing isn't great, but it has a bunch of kino scenes. The show is an abortion compared to it, obviously.
They are unimportant npcs and it’s fun to kill them. Who actually feels bad about it
there is no They lol. Mazin didn't get shown anything relating to Part 2 until 2019, meaning he had zero input in WHAT happens in the game.
A fan of the game, having played it about twelve times,[68][69] Mazin was introduced to Druckmann through Shannon Woodward, a mutual friend, in 2019;[67] Druckmann first showed Mazin in-development scenes from The Last of Us Part II (2020) on July 3, 2019.
if you've listened to the aftershow podcasts its very obvious that Neil accurately believes Mazin is much more talented than him and is mostly taking a backseat while Mazin attempts to salvage something from his wobby "revenge-bad" story.
Anon Babble has more mature discussion about TLOU2 than Anon Babble ever did
Sad. Many such cases.
You’ll feel bad when the daughter of wolf #126 tracks down Abby and kills her in front of lev. See the npcs all have friends and family and you should feel bad for killing them!!! Isn’t that a deep ass gimmick??
attempts to salvage something from his wobby "revenge-bad" story.
He's failing so far. I didn't even know it is possible to make the story even worse than the game's story, but Mazin somehow succeeded.
that's the whole reason the game is so divisive and the story doesn't work. it's made by liberals who thought that having NPCs cry out "Karen noooo!" when you stabbed Female Human Grunt #34 would make some kind of profound statement about the human condition. it's like these people aren't away that the GTA games exist.
the obvious logical way to fix the problem is to minimize Ellie's killcount in the show so that each death has to be treated as a character moment and that's what Mazin is doing.
HBO will have test screened season 2 and greenlit season 3 on the basis that it was working for the target audience. maybe it doesn't work for you, but it only has to work for people who are actually going to pay for MAX.
also every episode is guaranteed free publicity because any time a gay character does something gay the internet explodes. I'm sure the same thing will happen when Bella wins an Emmy.
Ah yes, the classic ludo-narrative dissonance. The term was coined to describe another Naughty Dog game
Yeah...but it's also fun and exciting to blow up someone with a mine or sneak up and brain them with a bat. Them going "Oh no, Bartholomew!" doesn't much change that.
I mean the views have been falling after Pedro's death, so clearly it is not working.
I mean the views have been falling after Pedro's death
The viewership went UP the episode after his death.
That's why you take the BASED Deacon St. John approach and leave no one alive to come after you for revenge.
You also dump annoying teenage girls in slave labor camps instead of hauling them around on a cross country trip.
You can play it on mute and the violence is still rough.
It's a mixed bag but there are improvements in some regards.
The Jackson infected battle was pretty cool, Dina is a more compelling character with more agency now, and they are not promoting Judaism or doing biased Israel-Palestine commentary
apparently it was coined in 2007 in response to the first Bioshock.
The player has the option of following what Hocking describes as the Objectivist approach by killing the Little Sister and gaining a larger amount of the resource, or following a compassionate approach, freeing the girl from the conditioning and only receiving a modest amount of the resource in return; this choice upholds the nature of free will that the gameplay presents, according to Hocking.
its always autistic liberal devs taking their jobs too seriously and attempting to make "conservatism bad" statements. but Bioshock got wildly overblown praise and the industry learned the wrong lessons. perhaps as a result, game storytelling has still never surpassed Deus Ex and Baldur's Gate 2.
Deacon is also a crazy schizo who talks to himself the entirety of the time since he's alone all the time.
I guess but they made the stealth gameplay fun with open arenas and many ways to approach enemies. For me Manhunt came off as more disturbing with much more primitive graphics, just due to the presentation, the sound design, and the "snuff film" aesthetic and tone. They didn't go "Oh no, Gerald!" in that game.
I personally don't care if the show is "popular". it's not a very commercial story, but I think they're doing it well and just want them to be able to realize whatever potential the game had that Neil fumbled.
Way better than angry weepy indecisive lesbian
The improvements you mentioned are fine, but he literally changed the whole story. It went from "a girl on journey to avenge her father's death" to a "love story of a couple of girls on a road trip".
The love story was already there in the game, though it has been shifted chronologically and made less subtle in a way that arguably overshadows the revenge quest.
But hey, at least Dina got an arrow in the leg so she's out of action and Ellie will be off doing violent stuff without her in Day 3
I thought it was coined in 2007 to describe the first Uncharted. As in
how do we square the happy-go-lucky jokester treasure hunter Drake from the story with the gameplay Drake who murders hundreds of men and never addresses his prolific body count?
the two don't rule each other out. wanting to give Dina oral in a big warm bed is the counterbalance to Ellie wanting to murder people. them being on a revenge quest is still present in the subtext of all the cute romance scenes.
Dina's actress is so much more natural than Bella
Did you even play Manhunt or just watch youtube videos?
you expect cute girls to be feminine and/or maternal. you don't expect someone like Bella to be playing a lead role in a TV show at all. so its easier to accept Dina's characterization. that doesn't mean Merced or Spaeny would be convincing as Ellie.
no bella is just bad and distractingly ugly there's no "internalized misogyny" at work here
It's my guilty pleasure movie but it's head and shoulders above all the other SM
That's what they're doing in Jackson
is the next episode the one with the rat king
what did they mean by this?
What do you think?
I played it about 18 years ago, pirated, the cutscenes were a little glitchy.
if Dina doesn't have a scene where she takes personal responsibility for being there, then Ellie is more responsible for putting her gf in danger. that makes her look like more of a monster and raises difficult questions about whether she even cares about Dina, which is a problem given that caring about Dina is meant to motivate Ellie's redemption and implied catharsis at the end of Part 2
But Ellie getting more and more consumed with revenge is a core part of the game and we get to see this process starting with her outburst at Dina, torture of Nora and so on. Ellie very, very deliberately rejects Dina just to go after Abby one more time
just watch youtube videos?
I automatically assume anyone who immediately jumps to this to be projecting.
You'd have a point if "JUST PLAY IT ON YOUTUBE LOLOL" wasn't the default trolling method that started with the first game
