Viktor's sin wasn't wanting to maintain his race's purity, it was enslaving the Lycans, and then lying about their supposed inferiority. Had he simply isolated his own kin away from the rest of the world as much as possible (with human stock for food) he probably could've reigned over his vampire descendants for millennia without any issue.

Slave societies are rife with instability, however. Especially when slavery is the result of a racial/ethnic caste system. Such a fragile structure cannot endure. One way or another it will collapse.
