Why hasn’t there been a good coming of age movie since Dazed and Confused? I just love how it flows and how grounded it is, the characters feel like real people and not extremely cliche. I just feel like no movie has nailed it since then, like Superbad was funny but none of the characters were realistic

Children are exposed to hardcore pornography and tiktok brainrot dopamine-loops and Ukrainian drone death footage as young as 5 years old. There is no more innocence to shed when puberty is reached. It was already stolen.

genx was the final authentic generation
millenial irony poisoning and zoomer tiktok brainrot will never make any meaningful coming of age kino again

You didn't like Boyhood? The movie that took 12 YEARS to make?

kek i was about to make a joke about exactly this. we latchkey kids getting raised on HBO have nothing on these kids getting plunked in front of internet enabled tablets before they learn the alphabet.

Don't you bring millennials into this. Jonah Hill went onto direct a movie about a kid coming of age with skateboarding punks a few years ago.

Gen Alpha kids are probably going to end the world. Zoomers are mindfucked doomers but Gen Alpha is an entire generation of narcissistic psychopaths. Like legitimately evil children. You ever interact with kids 12 and under? Fuckin children of the corn type of behavior

Real life socializing is the rite of passage.

im sincerely convinced gen alpha will be groomed to kill all the adults in their sleep

Based. I too get my opinions from my Red Letter Media (they're basically my best friends, you wouldn't understand tho, normie)

Because of the hivemind. For millennials memes were intoxicating because we were the first generation to create them and learn them in a matter of days then share them. Now memes are a mandatory language so the hivemind with the little ones is super strong. That said, they seem pretty cool from my observations and generally get along well. Being uncool or aggressive or a dickhead isn't really their thing whereas we used to cope by pretending it was cool and if you couldn't hang with the mean kids you weren't cool. Kids now just will outright ignore mean people, they don't have time for that.

Kids now just will outright ignore mean people, they don't have time for that.

So they're neutered cattle? That just means the mean kids run wild with no consequences.

No there are consequences. If you're mean you're basically just a dork now and you can't gaslight the other kids into thinking that's cool, they know better because they can see an entire world of actual cool people on their phone.

Mid90s.

Correct take, RLM are right about everything (especially the Star Wars prequels).

memes are a mandatory language

I literally physically cringed when I read this. Nobody gives a fuck about internet culture you fucking retard. It vacillates between being completely pointless down to actively harmful. The internet could disappear tomorrow and the earth would instantly be better. You aren’t special because you moderate a discord or subreddit. You don’t matter.

the characters feel like real people

Eh Pink was a little too cool. Teenagers are not that put together. The whole world revolves around him in that movie.

Nobody gives a fuck about internet culture you fucking retard

Yeah kids don't use the internet. I would be mad if I were this stupid too.

I literally physically cringed when I read this.

That was you preparing to say something stupid. Good you got that out of your system.

Have you just never observed people younger than 25 interacting? They communicate with memes. Both verbally and sharing them with their phones. Anon you're way off the mark on this one.

There’s a post of Ever chewing bubble gum on her subreddit, r/EverGaboAnderson, and the top comment is a 47 year old man saying

Imagine those lips…

Why is Reddit allowing this?

He seems furious about something unrelated. Embarrassed himself on a subreddit and got banned from the looks of it.

god what a sexy little mouth slut

47

that's not true

Was this upscaled by AI or something? Her eyes are scary and that bottom lip is in delicious 4k.

I used to watch Dazed and confused every last day of high school, my 3rd time doing it as a senior I realized I didn't go to any parties, didn't drink any alcohol or smoke any weed. This is when I got really into 60s and 70s rock at the time, so I remember making it a point to go to parties in my senior year and that's what exactly happened. Had so many good times, got blown alot, had sex a few times. I thank it all to this movie

That's pretty cool.
Me internally:

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

based movie saves anon from the incel life

For me it's gotta be Orange County.

youtube.com/watch?v=v_JtYF0iFNs

He wants to be a writer, he pursues it, he goes on a road trip to do what's necessary, his friends could be burnouts but he's not like that. He's objectively cool but intelligent and doesn't really have social cred. Whereas in most coming of age movies the characters are practically demigods. Orange County is real.

ever should do lolita remake

I’ll alert Chris Brenner

real life socializing

They don't do that anymore

Kids have always been little psychos. All that stuff about kids being innocent angels is bullshit.

If you think technological advancements and cultural evolution hasn't changed the way kids act now versus, say, in 1950, then you are fucking retarded.

I miss hang out aspect of Dazed and Confused more. Movies like that, Friday and Caddyshack where it’s just a random day in a place with people living their lives and funny shit. I genuinely think the internet and antisocial behavior killed the genre,

People don't come of age anymore. Millenials still live with their parents come 40. People aren't getting jobs and they aren't marrying, and the few who are are miserable and cucked or aren't having kids.

It's all part of the plan to make everyone infantilized and docile so the state can suck on their life force.

everybody wants some is good and also linklater. slightly older age range.

Superbad was funny

Was it? I watched it for the first time just the other day and thought it fucking sucked. Like there were some nice moments near the end but in general most characters were obnoxious and the constant "we are horny retarded teenagers" jokes got grating very fast. I chalked its high rating up to normies being normies but I didn't expect my contrarian friends here to also like the movie

I liked Dinner in America
And Mistress America
And Once Upon a Time in America

Is this the doomer thread?

they can see an entire world of actual cool people on their phone

This is bait, right? You're not actually this massive of a faggot.

Go back

Everybody Wants Some completely fails to capture the time period. It looks like 2016 with some of the characters wearing tighter clothes than normal. Plus so much of the movie being about the characters doing a little tourism trip to a bunch of different subcultures is so forced and artificial.

a vrigin thinks dazed and confused is realistic, but super bad is "unrealistic"
