We seem to mention bad casting a lot, but what are some examples of great casting?

gary oldman in anything
To her credit, Petunia's actress got the personality exactly right, but she's physically too attractive. In the books she's described as an ugly woman, while I would absolutely fuck film version Aunt Petunia no questions asked. I imagine when she was a young woman she was even more of a smokeshow.
Even Tiptoes (2002)?
I don't want to just post comic book characters but this is the one I will.
Aunt Petunia
I only figured out it was the same person a coupe of weeks ago, but I really liked her in Super Mario Bros. when I was a kid.
Fucking hnnnnng
Zachary quinto as spock in the new star trek movies
High jackman as wolverine
Patrick stewart as prof X
Harbour was great as old boy too, idk why that movie was disliked so much it was OK, other than the edgy "look I am swearing a lot" intro
henry cavill as superman.
and also Ben affleck as batman
be Kathleen Kennedy
see this guy cast as young Harrison Ford in Age of Adaline
cast some nepo baby as young Han Solo instead because Spielberg needed a favor
Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, Attenborough is pretty close to Hammond in looks too
Jamie Foxx playing Ray Charles
Lillard as Shaggy and JLH as Daphne
Christina Ricci in Addams Family and Casper
Shelley Duval as Olive Oyl
All of these are probably the closest they could be to the people they're supposed to portray
Felt really cheap to me.
At the risk of being called Reddit, this really was a blessing if only because of how passionate Ryan Reynolds was for the character. I don't know that any other actor would be willing to wear the makeup for three movies.
You can't put ugly people in movies
Go back
And to his credit, he actually keeps his mask for for a lot of the films, far more than most actors would. And even then, as you say, when it's off he's still under a lot of makeup.
Del Toro hellboys are just a lot better in terms of visuals and charm. The reboot lives in the shadow of those flicks
Mike Mignola and Del Toro both had an actor in mind for the film adaptation at their first meeting to discuss it, they wrote down their choice before showing the other, and both had written Perlman's name
Now that's a first choice.
Harry Melling has one of those weird faces that you can't quite say if he's weirdly ugly or weirdly handsome. Like Cumberbatch.
All he does is yell.
He was based, no homo
can say the same for the guy who played dredd in dredd (2012)
He really doesn't.
passionate
This fucking narcissistic circus clown has zero passion for anything you autistic moron.
did you know that when the woman touches his chest that was real and totally unscripted and that was the actress really touching his chest with her hand and not just fake and not scripted because it was real and that was her really real reaction in the film when it was filmed
True, he made what could easily have been(and before the films predicted to be) a very corny character seem believable while still faithful.
Pretty much all the first X-Men movies
movie called tiptoes
can literally see the tips of that woman's toes
Wtf
great casting
Petunia is a blonde in the books.
At the risk of being called Reddit
So is Dudley
The Grauniad is based!
Burt
He was based, no homo
He also was a great Johnny Storm in the FOX Fantastic 4 movies. Young, enthusiastic, focused on the fun & thrills he could have with flying and flame powers.
The pity was the retard directors and production committee of those two movies decided "DOCTOR DOOM can't be defamed for being a Romanian Gypsy", no magic, no quest for power, zero interesting aspects for him except "ANGRY BUSINESSMAN" with shitty lightning powers.
Bypassing everything interesting about Dr. Doom completely. Plus they had shitbag loser retards like Josh Trank later boasting "I DIDN'T READ THE COMICS (AKA 75+ YEARS OF SOURCE MATERIAL & CHARACTERIZATION)".
But Tim Story (director of 2005) at least got the right look of the team and some of the personality despite having bland executive-retards corporate ruined to almost failures. Or basically the same shit Sam Rami endured from the shitbag SONY movie executive retard corporate boardroom for SPIDER-MAN 3.
she's physically too attractive
Only a bong could possibly hold this opinion about the 5/10 in the OP
Jon Hamm absolutely nails Don Draper. I don't think Mad Men is consistently a great show, but he's always excellent in Don's scenes.
Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin.
back when people didn't get upset.
the fucked up haircut brought it all together
PIXAR was knocking it out of the park until SHITBAG GIRL (Darla Anderson) decided to #MEETOO John Lasseter.
Casting up to that point was spot on.
Probably the last decent casting was in MEET THE ROBINSONS animated movie, then it was all hyper lesbian idiocy and continuously having every animated movie lapse into highly expensive feminist failures afterwards.
With John Lasseter gone we had shitbags like Jennifer Lee forcing Disney to fire and defame hundreds of male animators to force in at great incompetence, expense, and HIGHLY ILLEGAL sexist hiring practices, Jennifer Lee's WOMEN IN ANIMATION (WIA) scam club to capture and monopolize Disney's animation teams into becoming LESBIAN ONLY.
en.wikipedia.org
it’s such a tiny part but I think this is his best role. He still has “Samuel L Jackson” type lines (“Hateof this hacker crap!”) but he makes so much out of a small role
who the fuck cares about the 'casting' of an animated film?
holy shit guys this has Frank Welker in it!
Nobody else could play this part
I liked him chain smoking in just about every scene.
MacGruber
Kate Beckinsale looks hot here. Please convince me not to waste my time on this slop
That was before there was an agenda to blackwashing. He was just a big badass playing a big badass.
I don't think Mad Men is consistently a great show
When contrarianism goes too far.
People got upset, you were just 7.
Everyone in this scene.
Him and that cigarette are like an Edibisi hat situation ffs.
i was 1 when Batman came out and had Billy Dee Williams in it. i don't remember anyone getting upset then, either.
by Daredevil people knew Kingpin from the cartoon. i'm sure comics guys HATED cartoon Kingpin, but people liked the guy in the film. he did that role well.
OOOooooooooh
Marvel has had completely spot on casting for like 90% of it's main heroes. Genuinely can't think of a single one who didn't nail it.
Pullo might be my fav character ever
Vorenus and of course Antony were great too
Nta but it drops off after S3. It's still a cut above most TV writing, but it'll never be picrel
speaking of great casting
