The trump movie the apprentice for example, was a really cool character study on someone with a father like that, a mentor like that, put in that environment and told they have to succeed wildly or they’re a piece of shit like their brother (who literally gets driven to suicide via alchoholism)

Watching Ben Shapiro’s review of the penguin was bizarre because he very much enjoyed the show, and correctly points out the penguin is just a pure evil unrepentant character. But the actual reasons and genesis behind it seem to either not interest him or be beyond his view.

The show multiple times show a myriad of factors motivating Penguin. His disability is a core one, mainly because his narcissism refuses to let him accept he has it. This initially comes across as a more empowering thing, especially since he also helps someone else with an issue like that in Vic. But fundamentally his whole persona is based not in reality but self delusion. He believes he is a good person, who loves his mother, and helps people. Not because he does any of these things but because he enacts performative measures. He truly chooses to believe the lie.
