I remember being cool with just 360p on youtube back in the day but now everyone demands 4k and 8k.
What is the reason for this?
youtube is different because google 100% made video quality way worse
We got better displays. DVDs looked fantastic on a tube TV. Slap it on a modern monitor or HDTV and the codec compression becomes blatantly obvious.
Nostalgia glasses. Same with videogames.
You're stupid.
take glasses off
can't tell the difference in quality anymore
Not my problem.
Realising that some old thing was low quality and things have considerably improved since is the opposite of "nostalgia glasses"
crt's
Average laserdisc enjoyer
What are you talking about bro? DVDs did not use a lot of lossy compression, they had 4.7gb or 8.5gb (dual layer) for a 480p/576p movie. Though it is a digital format there is no noticeable compression on a DVD same as there isn't on a CD for music. Even now you see DVD rips floating around torrents with the implication that even though they're very large in size they're also really good quality. DVD quality is crystal clear, though obviously we like higher resolution these days.
(except you we're cool)
Shut the fuck up. Please, SHUT THE FUCK UP you're not funny. Shut UP NOW stop FUCKING POSTING HERE YOU FUCKING RETARDS
I'm happy with 720p
Give me 1080p with a half decent bitrate any day of the week over 4k at yify rates. We've got vp9, x265 and av1 at our fingertips. There's no excuse for the bitrates being used in most cases.
be me
13 years old
would download porn on a 3gp avi format on dial up and would furiously jack off to it after
now
wouldn't get hard unless i'm watching an HD porn on my 34 inch monitor
fuck this shit.
Nobody likes you and you have no friends.
That's not what OP's image implies
Early Youtube quality was way worse than TV quality. And modern TVs don't display the same way old tube TVs did, so they make old things look worse than how you watched them originally.
You need to take a break from poen brother. You have porn induced ED and if you don't do something about it you will only get worse.
dvds look like shit on current tech because they were made to be viewed in 360/480/576p not stretched to 4k
Actually I have had a recent conundrum where a movie I want to watch only seems to be available online as a DVD-Rip. I am planning to watch it on my 27" Sony Trinitron CRT via my old WDTV Media Player instead of on my 65" LG OLED TV since I know it will look terrible otherwise.
I used to be perfectly comfortable with a 700 MB aXXo dvdrip
DVDs did not use a lot of lossy compression
there is no noticeable compression on a DVD
DVD quality is crystal clear
You are blind and retarded.
For the most part whenever I have to watch a DVD I'm pretty impressed. But I did dig out my old Spongebob season one DVDs and they looked awful.
your tv is 5x bigger, moron
>DVDs did not use a lot of lossy compression
>there is no noticeable compression on a DVD
>DVD quality is crystal clear
You are blind and retarded.
What was the last dvd you watched?
good times
I still enjoy a lot of old and low-res content but this effects me too. Watching DVDRips of Bonanza episodes and other old TV looks much grainier than it did back then
generally I'm okay with anything as long as it's at least 3mbps and if possible I'll aim for 8mbps+ for modern films at least (around 7-11GB) for most rips
Not him but I watched that recent vampire ballerina girl movie with my grams and it was a decent movie and look great on her 32 inch 1080p (or 720p?) tv. I want vampire cunny so bad bros....
You kept increasing the level of stimulus until you could no longer enjoy the things that used to impress you. It's like when gaymers start playing at 120 FPS or audiophiles listen to the highest possible fidelity sound. Anything less becomes painful, your brain can't help but fixate on the imperfections. You can no longer interpret them as good even though there was no issue before exposure to higher grade media.
Just sit further back. Your screen should be at least 50".
We got better displays.
Poorfag. Computer monitors have been HD for a long time.
A lot of older DVDs were only formatted for standard def. 90% of my collection is like that.
I remember watching the entirety of Naruto back in 2007 on YouTube at 240p and having a blast.
Autism
I did dig out my old Spongebob season one DVDs and they looked awful.
Really? I have that set but haven't watched it
Your face, your ass - what's the difference?
No
dvds look 1000x time better than web videos and streams compressed at sd resolutions. i compare some of the vob files and remuxes of animation and music videos i have, uncompressed from their source DVD, and they look better than official streams and youtube uploads of the same material.
I have Spice Girls music videos on DVD and it looks better than 4K youtube.
