Movies are bad nowadays because they try to appeal to everyone. That's why they add fags and blacks because they think it appeals to a larger audience. It's the same reason we don't see comedy movies anymore. Comedy is cultural specific and with everyone trying to get Chinabucks you won't make any money if you make an comedy movie that uses American culture. That's the idea at least. I think the problem is that blockbusters have no real artistic flair to them. The studios are still adjusting to CGI. So many studios just crap out a movie based on an IP now, because they have the IP, not because there's a decent movie to be made. So they greenlight and start producing the film and just think they can fix it all later with CGI. Part of the reason movies are insanely expensive nowadays is because there's entire CGI setpieces that just get completely axed because they don't test in focus groups well, or they find the film has to go another direction and the scene can't be saved.
Directors have lost most of their power and influence with blockbusters. There's no real captain of the ship anymore with blockbusters.
Arthouse movies still exist just as they always have, but blockbusters have become significantly more mediocre. No one's going to care about MCU movies in 20 years, but a few autists will still obsess over Batman vs Superman because the executives were stupid enough to actually give Snyder a fair amount of slack to do what he wanted with the property.
