Damn, I should have watched this when I was 12 years old

Exactly. It stays with you your while life.
Go back to Anon Babble
Is it actually good? I watched the first 10 minutes of the first episode and didn't get into it.
The target audience is teenagers that are candidates for schizoid personality disorder (i.e. superficially unemotional loners).
If you are an angsty teen it would be excellent. By adulthood, it's kind of about a lot of things you've probably grown into.
For someone who hangs out on Anon Babble it's unironically very deep.
If they played it on toonami then I missed it. That was the only source of anime I watched growing up.
babby's first religious experience. Fitting, considering it's filled with religious imagery. It elicits your first "what is the meaning of life" type thoughts, which makes you emotional. But then you grow up and realize life has no meaning, and that initial elation is crushed under the weight of disillusionment, like the boulder of Sisyphus. Life is absurd. This is what religious people cannot and will not ever accept. Human beings' inability to accept the meaninglessness of their existence is the very reason religions exist.
The shots are very well-composed. If you are able to appreciate kino, you are able to appreciate it for that alone.
If you're into animation as a medium, it's really nice to watch. A lot of very skilled animators working on it, really at the top of their game
I'm glad I didn't. Watched shit like 300 and Spartacus around that time.
Same OP. It was the big waking up point when I realised I was Shinji in all the worst ways. Wish I realised when I was still in high school but oh well.
Really? I first watched it as an adult, and I think I probably would have misinterpreted it and been pretty fucked up by it if I had seen it as an impressionable and stupid kid. I would say it's a piece of media that can be damaging to one's psyche if you don't have the, dare I say, media literacy to read between the lines of Anno's misery porn shit and walk away with a life-affirming interpretation of its message.
why normalfags atheists get mad when shinji jorks it to asuka though?
I think it depends on your age, taste for scifi and esotericism, and if you actually like anime. I don't really care for anime but I love this show because I do like mecha in any medium and I love the esoteric (but shallow) imagery. The psychological aspect of it was pretty novel to me at the time and the message stuck but if you are an adult it probably doesn't hit as hard (unless you are developmentally stunted).
Nihilism is cringe and so are you.
Evangelion is a sinful work that turned the mecha genre into something for fag autism. It's like Nietzsche for 14yo. If you're over 14, watch Votoms or Ideon.
If you're over 14, watch Votoms or Ideon.
Those top-rated episodes ratings
I mean I know its IMDB but you'd expect at least a couple 8s or 9s
It's the most over hyped anime ever and it's actually pretty mid overall. Personally it was pretty surface lv too deep 4 u psychological wanna be philosophical garbage that became predictable and boring to sit through.
Being a Shinji transcends age

I thank god everyday that I watched the ADV dub when I was 11
I'm 26 years old and a virgin.
I'm 25 and I'm only not a virgin because I had a Kaji if you know what I mean
the best way to consume eva is being a 14 yo in the mid 90s snd share the VHS tapes of it with your cool classmates
No. The whole kid pilot thing is stupid.
the whole kid pilot thing is great though
no he means that's the intellectual age of a person that enjoyed this cringe trash
Yeah if you're 12. Go back to your minecraft server.
I like the world they built but the anime is about some little retard kids being stupid and it's full of typical cringe "japanese" humor. Plus it's only like 2 dozen episodes but they spend half the time rehashing old shit. The entire last two episodes were like a sitcom clip show. I was 100% filtered, I skipped through most of those episodes and then just gave up when I couldn't find anyone talking about shit that hadn't already been talked about.

naruto is unironically deeper
this. people think it's just a show about teenage feelings. but one of the main themes is that the adult characters are mirrors of the children. and pretty much have all the same problems, they just get better at masking them. Gendo is Shinji and Shinji is Gendo, and the generational trauma between them is really important and only makes full sense as an adult.
that said, I am glad I watched the show as an angsty teenager, but it hits even harder as an adult sometimes. I'm not sure I'd have as complete an understanding without both perspective though.

Yes. Yes, you were filtered. Many such cases!
You need to be an autist who went through a life of painful social rejection to fully connect with it
No one needs to actually "connect" with Shinji. The story if NERV, the angels, and the Evas is great enough on its own.
