CLINT’S NOT DONE YET

What will his final film be?

But I’m not one of them

I mean I love Clint, but it’s not like his recent stuff has been kino.
When was the last good movie of his?
Gran Torino in like 2008?
Buy hey I hope he keeps directing until he’s dead

You think he pull off and star in a western?

Gianna Michaels biopic

The Mule (2018) was good so that's not so long ago. I will say his last great film was probably Gran Torino so yea it's been a while since we've seen his best

Cry Macho wasnt very good and it didnt make sense at all why someone would send a brittle old man into the criminal underworld of rural mexico to retrieve his son for him.

I disagree; he was a young man of 73 when he made his best film.

This is his magnum opus imo. Fucking love Mystic River

A western starring Scott Eastwood hopefully

it's but agreed. One of if not the best tragedies ever made in film.

This is a strange piece of news. I was about to post it too, but wasn't sure about this.

All the English language articles about this refer to Reuters, who quote this interview with Clint by some random Austrian newspaper (in German, of course):

kurier.at/stars/clint-eastwood-95-geburtstag-interview/403045513

It's behing a paywall that I couldn't bypass.

The wording of many of these bits seems off to me, like not something that Clint (or most other people really) would say about himself:

"There's no reason why a man can't get better with age. And I have much more experience today. Sure, there are directors who lose their touch at a certain age, but I'm not one of them."

Too far with patting himself on the back, you know?

"As an actor, I was still under contract with a studio, was in the old system, and thus forced to learn something new every year," he said. "And that's why I'll work as long as I can still learn something, or until I'm truly senile."

We live in an era of remakes and franchises.

Could be an unfortunate translation or something, but something about this interview to a random-ass Austrian newspaper doesn't sound right to me.

... never mind, here is the original German interview, with the bypassed paywall:

archive.fo/uPAQn

you can't feed this Archive page directly to Google Translate, but you can copypaste the text itself. Here's the Google translation of relevant parts, with the random fluff about his past career removed:

---

And he's in pre-production on another film project. These days, he can be seen busily bustling around the Warner Bros. studio lot with a bushy white beard.

KURIER: Where does your drive come from?

Clint Eastwood: I'm not an esoteric, but I always knew that you get further with a positive outlook on life than with a negative one. You can't see the glass as half empty. And I had that feeling even at 25, as an aspiring actor, with numerous producers contemptuously telling me I was a failure. I even heard a little voice inside me back then saying, 'You can do it.'

You're in the enviable position today of being able to do whatever you want, and no studio dares to reject your ideas...

Most of the time, but not always.

After a 70-year career in the film business, what do you think of current developments?

I long for the good old days when screenwriters wrote films like "Casablanca" in small bungalows on the studio lot. When everyone had a new idea. We live in an era of remakes and franchises. I've made sequels three times, but I haven't been interested in that for a long time. My philosophy is, do something new or stay home.

(part 2 out of 2 in the next post below)

Tim Robbins describes you as a "fast director" and says he was very happy that he didn't have to shoot 20 takes of the same scene, but that you knew exactly when you were good after the second one. Is that because you're also an actor and therefore understand actors better?

I usually work with experienced actors who come to filming well prepared. I'm against overworking a scene just because I want as many editing options as possible. Most good actors are at their best in the first and second takes. And with child actors, I have a trick: there are scenes in my films that I take from rehearsals. The more unobserved the children feel, the better they perform.

Actresses you know and/or have worked with rave about you. Actors too, by the way, but women consider you a particularly charming man. Doesn't that bother your partner?

The women in my life have always known that I wouldn't leave them just because I flirted with other women. I'm happy with my life. Although I've always been older than my wives at some point, I feel just as young as they do, at least mentally. And physically, I'm still doing well, so hopefully, no one will have to worry about me in that regard for a long time to come.

Where do you get the energy?

There's no reason why a man can't improve with age. And I have much more experience today; I've had a long life behind me that has given me all these experiences. Of course, there are directors who lose their touch at a certain age, but I'm not one of them.

Why do you think that's?

I didn't repeat myself, I didn't always make the same kind of film, but always tried something new. A new genre, a different role. As an actor, I was still under contract with a studio, in the old system, and thus forced to learn something new every year. And that's why I'll keep working as long as I can still learn something, or until I'm truly senile.

He looks insanely strong for a 95 year old man

IS THAT MY DAUGHTER IN THERE?

His latest movie Juror 2 is good, one of the best that came out last year

Based Clint learned with Manoel de Oliveira. He still has a decade of kinos in him.

I don't like the desaturated look in his modern stuff. Iirc they been looking like that since those two-parter WWII movies, which took a visual cue from saving private ryan.
But I like him and I hope he gets to do that shit for as long as he can.

Well, this post jinxed him. F

I don't care what the movie is what it's going to be about, but as long as somebody says the word spook it's a 10/10

Insider OA here

He's directing a story about the two young Israeli-Americans who were assassinated by the radical Leftist this month. It will be in the style of his prior "real life hero" biopics, rather than focus on the antisemitic social media reactions.

You won't believe me, but it's true and I personally came here with my boss's permission to piss you off ha ha.

What will his final film be?

Something extremely underwhelming and almost completely forgotten within a month of its vod release.
I'm just waiting for one of the big studios to announce a remake/reboot of the dollars trilogy starring the meme actor of the day, where Clint cameos after being paid a couple of million

Although I've always been older than my wives at some point, I feel just as young as they do, at least mentally. And physically, I'm still doing well, so hopefully, no one will have to worry about me in that regard for a long time to come.

I can't tell if this is sad or just cringe. Definitely giving "hello fellow kids" vibes

What will his final film be?

Minecraft 2.

I don't mind this line, really. Doesn't sound wrong to me, seems like regular talk of an old guy who still feels that he has some activity in him. The other line about:

Of course, there are directors who lose their touch at a certain age, but I'm not one of them.

Is far more cringy.

Obviously privy to life extension treatments and meds that normies aren't. Trump and Jared take them too. Jared publicly says he expects to live to 200-300 years old

He's outlived all his wives, moron. The interviewer doesn't know. It's been a Anon Babble joke forever

Also of note: here he is on that very same set, in that same courtroom, but on some different day. He looks "worse" in this one, but obviously there's only a few weeks between these photos. Goes to show how much it means at old age to be disheveled vs. to be neatly dressed and with a good recent haircut etc.

What's the Anon Babble joke here?
t. i know that he outlived his wives/mistresses

Excuse me, is that an official Clint Eastwood™ photograph you are using there?

Can we finally stop pretending he's a great director? For every good movie he's done he's made a dozen worthless pieces of shit

Still looks fully sentient. A lot of old people look like they don't know they're in the room

Every Clint movie is kino.

he has very kind looking eyes

I believe it, he made that movie about the air force retard who beat up a terrorist on the train in yurope right after it happened.
Turns out you can't make a whole ass movie about a fight that took like two minutes and the guy was an unlikable dipshit so the whole movie was just a USA #1 jerkoff. Awful movie.

one last ride!

Maybe he should direct the upcoming Fast & Furious 11?

Ughhh why am I shooting my scenes first?

he had such an old man walk in cry macho it was very tough to watch

Does my guy still talk to chairs?
