The last couple seasons jump the shark really hard. It also runs into the Game of Thrones dilemma where they were always willing to kill off main characters, which keeps you as an audience member ready for anything, but by the time the later seasons are airing half of the good actors are dead and you're forced to give more and more screen time to bit characters and nobodies.

I could never get into that show because of the main guy and his accent. How do you allow your lead to have such a shitty accent? Why not just get a Yankee? I'm a brit so it was doubly more grating.

Idk I watched it when I was a teenager but it was definitely bad. It somehow seemed to get worse as the show went on too, like he stopped caring lol. The only American accent that ever REALLY bothered me (as an American) was McNulty on The Wire. Fucking awful. Didn't help that I hated the character in general.

People who obsess about accents are honestly the lowest of the low in terms of critics. The amount of people like (You) that screeeeech about an accent inconsistency that normal people usually just don't even listen for is probably a sign of autism. Of course, there are examples of egregiously bad accents (that Irish movie with Christopher Walken etc) but they are not as common as the times that people pretend. For example both McNulty and CIA are fine in The Wire. It's sad that you can't form a proper criticism so you have to pretend "mwai eyuhs hwwwuuurrtt!". All of True Blood - fine. Brosnan in Mobland - fine (although Mirren is in question fair enough). Damian Lewis in anything - fine.
All you are demonstrating when you level this sort of criticism is that you are a) probably autistic, and b) probably reclusive since expats are spread out across the entire globe in current year and nearly all of them have "strange" accents that are a mix of different places. Nobody but retards stops these people in day to day life... so why do you think turning a camera on changes anything?

I like both shows. I finished them both. No one is "obsessing". The accents aren't good. Also to imply that there are some worthy of criticism, just not the ones we don't like, is just silly. Hearing is subjective. McNulty's bad accent sticks out to me. I didn't even mention CIA because I thought his was passable. Of course no one gives pause to expats with mixed accents. They're not actively trying to portray themselves as something they aren't like an actor is.

I dropped it halfway through. Justified is the other best FX show that I've seen.

And who is the authority on if someone passes the "sticks out to me" test or not? Most of the "worthy" examples as you would put it are just examples of bad acting. It has little to nothing to do with the voicework, and more to do with delivery. Tony Soprano's accent is never questioned not because of the authenticity of it but because of Gandolfini's range and ability to be convincing in every scene. Like I said, there are examples of people being wildly off the mark (sounding German instead of French for example) but they are fewer and further between.

Most criticisms are subjective. There'd be very little discussion here if we only shared objective ones. You're acting like I threw a tantrum and refused to watch the shows because I didn't like the accents.

They show Vic continually choosing his family over the Strike Team in the final season while Ronnie is shown as meticulous and careful. I know the whole thing is Vic gets away with it all in the end and he's a piece of shit, but I would have liked if Ronnie either got away on his own or was clever enough to cut his own deal undermining Vic's. Ronnie was way too trusting of Vic.

The finale was perfect aside from how they dealt with Ronnie. Nothing about how they fleshed out his character would suggest blind loyalty to Vic. If you remember, he was the only always second guessing and being detached. A poor piece of plotting in an otherwise excellent show.

I had a crush on the tight young cutie in the early seasons, the Tulips chick who had Shane's Georgia Yammy juice. She was so fucking hot.

Again, I already said there are examples of something being egregious, I understand if someone like Timothee Chalamet did an Indian accent it may just inherently shatter the suspension of disbelief, but that almost never happens. I loved SoA through season 4ish. Season 5 is okay, but after that it's all down a steep hill.

I think he got them once some time in the early 2000s. I'd have to watch The Shield again, but I feel like he's balding bad in the pilot and then has more coverage in the second episode. Probably got his shit thickened once, and has been on finasteride since 2002.
