They over did it with the quipy humor, a weak premise, and a OP antagonist who had weak motivation.
If anything the movie should have been some kind of heist film against that shadow agency they worked for, the Sentry plot should have been a side plot where the big reveal is Bob is a sleeper agent like Bucky, code words turn him into Valentina's personal killing machine. The mcguffin they have been trying to steal can shut him down or break the Valentina's hold. Keep his alter ego for another movie where he becomes a threat unwillingly.

Really a missed opportunity, and I think more people would have cared if they did. Not everyone saw the black widow movie because that came out during covid and went straight to streaming. It never had a run in theaters.

Some of the trailers looked interesting to me but I didn't end up going to see Thunderbolts because I could not give less of a shit about the MCU, and I couldn't figure out if this was a standalone film or a sequel that needed homework watching beforehand or if this was just a setup for future sequels or what the hell this was.
I don't wanna go see a movie and then realize half an hour in that I have no idea what's going on because I didn't see Season 2 of Loki and the fourth Thor movie. And I don't wanna see a movie that basically has no ending because it's all setup for another film that's coming out four movies and two years from now.
