TNG era Trek had the worst lasergun designs in the history of sci-fi

They all look like TV remotes

Soul

TNG Federation is aesthetically dogshit, everything looks like it was designed around leisure and not practicality

Yeah it all looks either toylike or like it's normal household designs.

I like Kira's phaser btw

is star trek/battle star galactica worth it? I like sci-fi but is this shit good enough to watch it now?
or is it going to be power rangers in space?

it was designed around leisure and not practicality

Because it was. It was an exploration/science vessel not combat.

They all look like TV remotes

I think that was the idea. It was a point and click zapper. The idea was to re imagine and abstract to the essentials of what a "gun" does.

BSG is pretty dated, it's just early 2000s compelling tv drama in space. Some fun stuff about if robots have souls.

TNG is dated but timeless, the episodes mostly stand alone as classic sci-fi stories. You have to like people talking though.

BSG is pretty dated

It still holds up imo. The characters are what makes it. Baltar is awesome. One of the better developed characters in any series I can think of.

Lazer tag was pretty big in the late 80's early 90's, it looks like one of those guns.

star trek

complain about guns

Star wars has the most boring story. They hardly trek anywhere. It is all just one big drama.

It is all just one big drama

Not a star wars fan but that's because it is. The space stuff is just setting and backdrop. There's zero scifi. It should never be compared with star trek imo. It's a different genre.

If you can get over the silly special effects (especially early TNG), both TNG and DS9 are great. The first two seasons of TNG definitely are more on the campy side. The often repeated rule of thumb of TNG is that it gets good after Riker grows his beard (so season 3), but I wouldn't recommend skipping any episodes prior to that. DS9's tone is a lot more serious, but it still does have its fair share of comic reliefs and episodes.

the right to keep and bear plasma weapons shall not be infringed

Every time i re watch an episode of tng i just feel so good. Is some of the best most enjoyable writing ive seen. Not the most elaborate or complex. But they way they all talk to each other and how professional they are with problem-solving while dealing with the foibles of being human. Its just so good. I came to the show way late and i loved it right away. And yea, first few seasons are especially cheap looking and can be skipped. Theyre pretty much all self contained episodes.

Real bang bang gun>gay space lazor

Isn't Star Trek all about being a faggy gay commie pacifist or some shit? Aren't the rayguns supposed to look faggy and gay? Just watch something else, bro, it's not hard.

I now want a spin off series that is basically In a Mirror Darkly or maybe something where earth gets invaded by every other alien species.

No, we will turn Star Trek into Star Wars instead, and incels will seethe.

Just watch Bbaylon 5 and Farscape

Babylon 5 is unwatchable, especially with it being an obvious LOTR/DS9 ripoff.

Han solos weapon in Star Wars was slapped together from pistol parts and a shower head. At least some thought about ergonomics went into the TNG hand phaser which looked like an electric hair trimmer. Comfortable to hold.

Han-Solo1.jpg - 1200x600, 89.69K

Didn't they have those pocket phasers? Those were cool.

No, Babylon 5 and Andromeda

Lol no.
Phasers have no sights and you'd need to bend your wrist to properly align it towards the target.

Bait.
Babylon 5 looks like shit but the writing was well thought out and only fell victim to studio interference at the end. The finale is absolutely incredible though. Mass Effect ripped off the premise of this show.

The phaser beams auto lock-on the target all you gotta do is hold the phaser steady. like aim assist in a game

Original 60's Star Trek

Peak of the franchise. The characters and stories are very strong. It is very dated, but only in a charming way. It is actually one of the more fast-paced Star Trek shows compared to the later stuff. Season 3 is shit, and there is a LOT of really goofy shit like a planet where everyone is a stereotypical 30's gangster.

The Next Generation

Very similar to 60's Trek, except it's a lot worse despite being more popular. It takes a couple of seasons to get good but the characters never catch up to the OG, even if there are some good characters the show consistently gets dragged down by the shit/bland ones that never improve.

Deep Space 9

Kino but not perfect. Even slower than TNG for better or worse. It's a lot darker and it has a continuous storyline about a war instead of the episodic format of the previous shows (although it is still very episodic by today's standards). It is sort of similar to Andor (but only sort of). Characters are mostly great, strongest cast next to 60's Trek. This show has a lot of great moments, great arcs and great characters but it also has a lot of unbearable episodes where it's just a weird 90's soap opera in space and nothing happens. It has some of the highest highs and lowest lows in Star Trek (not counting modern Trek, which gets even lower somehow).

Voyager

Haven't seen much of this, what I have seen of it looks just like the most mid episodes of TNG and DS9. I don't have much more to tell you.

Movies

Only the movies with the OG Kirk crew are worth watching. The even numbered ones are great, the uneven ones are mid/shit (except Motion Picture which is secretly kino)

Overall Star Trek is nothing like "power rangers in space", it is more like classic sci-fi literature where they explore crazy concepts and societal/political allegories. Star Trek will make you think and it will expand your mind on a lot of things, if you're willing to look past the rubber foreheads and goofyness

Phasers have no sights

True, but they have a wide beam mode to knock out a whole room of people. Just set the phaser to kill and double tap

sisko is a little fucking bitch whining about fake past racisms when he lives several hundred years in the future with literally zero anthrocentric racism, like absolutely NONE. there's barely even racism amongst other species and he's still daydreaming about being some poor downtrodden buck in evil 1960's san francisco (bleeding heart cuck capital of the world since circa 1910 already by the by)

He just wants historical accuracy in his historical holoprograms.

You want historical accuracy in your historical TV shows and historical movies too, don't you?

like TV remotes

That's what Roddenberry wanted. No moving parts, no fins, no fire.

How does it know which guy is the bad guy?

Babylon 5 looks like shit

Bait.
B5 is great with few boring episodes

i don't think the san francisco newspaper negro bit was a holodeck though was it? it was some weird, self-victimizing dream or vision sisko was having. the whole thing was one entirely self-contained episode and had zero bearing on the greater arc of the show

and if it WAS a holodeck, honestly that's even more fucking pathetic. this dipshit nigger runs a politically embattled space station outside of a wormhole with a totalitarian, ACTUALLY RACIST empire on the other side. he shouldn't be fucking around playing little baby sneed in the make believe room when he's in the ides of war

Did the Mass Effect devs rip off that design? I swear there's a pistol in ME that looks exactly like that.

and had zero bearing on the greater arc of the show

"You are both a character as well as that character's writer."
"You are both the Emissary as well as a Prophet."

I disagree with the writers doing this to him, I think it was a bad decision, but I can understand what the episode was foreshadowing.

everything looks like it was designed around leisure and not practicality

Opposite, hence why their weapons looks goofy, yet are amongst the strongest in the universe.

Possibly, but it's also a fairly generic/obvious design for a sci-fi pistol

now imagine instead of that useless shit episode we got a beautiful, harrowing, 1st hand account of sisko's time on bajor during a visit as he grapples with the detached professionalism of starfleet and the emotional, spiritual struggle of the bajorans - meeting those who revere him and those who think he's a maverick and an outsider and even an apostate who will herald their doom. same exact lessons, same exact themes, same exact "i'm not one of them" feelings, just without the hamfisted-as-fuck racial bullshit

that's my problem

that magnum appearance

Did they get that from the Cardassians, or did the prophets visit ancient earth for inspiration?
Shitpost, anon. Star Wars is an opera, not an adventure.

... I don't... know! but i think my theory makes most sense thus far. oh you know what it could be, optional setting for aim assist. you can always turn it off and use the sights for certain situations

Shitpost, anon. Star Wars is an opera, not an adventure.

If what I said was a shitpost then so is OP you faggot.

effective tho

file.png - 351x187, 57.98K

The thing closest to the center of the weapon I would assume. That or it can be pre-programed.

Original 60's Star Trek

Peak of the franchise.

kek.

jackass thinks I am OP

As I said, you shitposted, child.
Then I don't know why the Bajorans have such an appearance for their pistol.

same exact lessons, same exact themes

Well, no. You lose the metaphor for his own life if you cut out a writer being their own character.

kek.

AAAAAARGH NOOOOOO WHY DOES NOBODY LIKE MY SPACE FUJO AUTISM SHOW

Fr tho why don't you like it

true dat, but i don't see how there was any metaphorical quality to begin with when nothing about sisko's imagined san francisco life was similar to his actual life. he doesn't even solve anything or come to any real understandings, it's just "whitey was raciss back then" and the episode ends. if anything it just tickles at the retarded, entirely irksome concept of "ooo maybe the san francisco life is the real one and he's actually crazzyyy"

Anon, it's foreshadowing for an upcoming plot point. It's foreshadowing a revelation that comes up later. That's the bearing it has on the greater arc of the show.

Most STAR TREK tech looks dippy if you know Ergonomics.

Next Generation onward Trek Weapons are massively stupid if you consider that the crew wears Footie-Pajama outfits (comfort over utility). Let's say you have a Phaser gun on your hip. Sane folks would wear a belt, even a harness. Even if you're attaching the phaser holster by neodymium magnets and the weapon is as heavy as Styrofoam Cube, its not protected from being knocked out by the slightest bump, forget running, and the 2 buttons plus slider touchzone are really bad design choices. The flip-phone classic communicator was a way better design in utility if you want a space gun except for the "bar of soap" form factor grip issue for aiming. Ideally, for men using the phaser you'd make a tech-psychic interface (mind reading) so you could mark targets by simply imagining a target circle on them along with firing intensity choices. Even a cruder system available today could use eye tracking plus AI to identify and track targets, tense your temple muscles near your eyebrows or choose a muscle set like clenching your toes to paint the target where your eyes are focused, subvocal verbalization (bone transduction of audio) by thinking of what you want to say causes your throat muscles to twitch even if you emit no audible words.

Targeting a for using modern tech interfaces would be, "Hold Phaser", look at enemies or nonsentient target, subvocally think-say "paint target weakspot, setting stun" (like whispering, but you say nothing aloud and do not move your lips). If you have multiple targets, you can set up incremental fire, fire, fire, fire, commands or Fire All or Fire Every quarter-second.

Let's say you're freeing a classic hostage with terrorist standing behind them with arm around their throat. Because you silently painted your targets, you can now move freely and so long as the Phaser end can see the targets or its bodyunit cameras can see them or your eyes see the targets it will fire sequence.

the crew wears Footie-Pajama outfits (comfort over utility)

What are trying to say here? that in a post scarcity space fairing society, hot woman would not walk around in skin tight suits?
