I have a couple of ideas for kinos, but I don’t want to bother writing out entire screenplays if it’s going to be for nothing and in the end i’ll be the only one who reads them. What are the chances a regular person with no connections in the industry makes it big? Or at least get funding to make their projects?
Is it possible for one of us to make it in hollywood
Only jews make it big in hollywood
bump
No. It's a big club and you're probably not in it
Where are independent filmmakers supposed to get their money from?
No,even if you somehow wrote a fantastic script and submitted it nothing good would happen. It would get passed around and eventually something suspiciously similar would appear but without you getting any compensation or credit. It's a very dirty and corrupt industry and without the right connections you ain't getting in
That one anon made some kinos like Good Times and Uncut Gems. He was Jewish though.
How does one join the club then?
Qrd?
If there was not a single Hollywood producer at your Bar Mitzvah then tough luck.
What's to run down. Some Anon from here made a bunch of movies with his brother, including Good Times and Uncut Gems. His brother is an actor now, was in Oppenheimer.
The guy who made uncut gems is a Anon?
How did someone like vincent gallo make it then?
The not actor one, yes.
You have to be in the tribe or know a (((guy))) who knows a (((guy))).
Your best bet is probably to turn it into something you can publish by yourself somehow (a novel, a comic/manga...) and then try to get an adaptation made.
If you're Sicilian, you can hebrewmaxx and hope that you'll get mistaken for Jew on some audition.
Is it possible for one of us to make it in hollywood
Yes and no.
No in the sense that hollywood is burning and won't exist in 5 years time.
Yes in the sense that you can make your own films and achieve so form of success. Or at least that's what I tell myself.
So if I larp as a kike I can make it?
No, you have to be a nepobaby to make it in Hollywood now. Don't even bother.
You might. You might win the lottery too, you never know.
Yes in the sense that you can make your own films and achieve so form of success.
Any tips on how to start?
No screenplay survives first contact with the enemy. It either goes into the trash, or gets dusted off, changed just enough not to credit you, and made anyway.
If you value your soul I would stay away
I don’t really know what else to do with my life and the only thing that interests me is filmmaking. It’s come to a point where I don’t really care anymore.
Can't you do that without Hollywood?
Buy a cheap dslr/mirrorless camera, a tripod, a mic and download editing software (an nle).
Write a shitty script (or just find a scene from your favourite movie to recreate). Rope your friends into performing, or hire amateur actors off facebook.
Film it and then edit it. Keep doing this until your output isn't garbage.
There's no way to get good at filmmaking other than to do it (unless you have millions to pay other people to do it for you)
How?
the only thing that interests me is filmmaking
if you care this much about filmmaking then what's your excuse for not making anything? Genuine question. If the only thing that interests you is something that you haven't even tried to pursue then what does that say about you?
My ninja script got into producers desk twice but nothing came out of it.
I was hired to finish a horror film a few years ago.
I still grind away, i feel like i just need the nugget of luck to break in.
Ask me anything i guess?
t. screenwriter
There are lots of independent films on streaming sites and YouTube now. Or more independent media creation companies. Idk. I don't know much though. I didn't think you were serious when you were posting I just know it seems to be a very gatekept industry that isn't that much about talent. Please take what I'm saying with a grain of salt.
how old are you
37
Tbf I’m still relatively young, I’m just not in school for anything relating to the arts because everyone always told me it would be a waste of time and I let it get to me. But still to this day it’s the only career path I’m even slightly interested in pursuing, so I want to start somehow, I just don’t really know how or where to even begin.
Oh, I mean yeah I’m not shitposting I’m genuinely curious.
do you have any other job
I do this and that off-time. But most of my energy goes into screenwriting.
It just seems like a mistake to ask people online for advice especially in this setting where people here dont really know about the industry. Perhaps it would be more fruitful to ask people you know and trust irl or to find people that have done what you are wanting.
ninja script
Qrd?
Name: Neon Blades
Logline: Breaking free from their past, two ninjas must overcome a deadly mistake, reconcile their shattered bond, and unleash their skills to take down the criminal underworld.
Its like vaporwave feverdream, shot in the style of '80s japanese commercials. The tone is like Unforgiven, a deconstruction of the 'hero archetype' with combination of Kill Bill's pastiche - only my pastiche is '80s ninja and action films. All this told very 'down the earth'.
Its highly unique, very stylistic project.
If you aren't willing to script/produce/direct some short films then it will never happen. If you don't have enough confidence in your own ideas to pursue them, why would anyone else?
If you’re trying to get you’re foot in the door, wouldn’t it be more fruitful to write scripts with less ambitious aspirations, stylistically speaking? While I’m sure this idea of “80’s vaporwave feverdream” is very fleshed out in your head, unless you plan on directing this yourself with your own vision I doubt it would be easy to pitch this to directors that have neither the budget, passion nor skill to produce something this artsy. I have zero experience in filmmaking, but it seems to me that strong stories set in the present would be more appetising to low budget filmmakers.
Yeah, i got that kind of scripts too.
Im not passionate about them tho, this one i love - even tho its not even my best script. But its the one i like most.
Its like vaporwave feverdream
Based as fuck, there aren’t enough vaporwave movies out there. I’m currently working on something similar but it’s set in 1980s Miami. There’s really only two main characters and like three main locations so I’m hoping it won’t be too hard to finance/shoot independently. Since apparently big studios don’t give a single fuck about niches or anything that isn’t a remake of a well known franchise.
It's better to direct the scripts you are involved and become passionate about the art of film making first and foremost. Your best idea is far outside your current talents, and you should not expect people to give you money without a proof of purchase. Your first years as a film maker need to be about building a catalog, and you will need to be a total package "film maker" if you hope to create outside the club.
