It reminded me a bit of the original RTD TARDIS interior with the coral. The Rani being a Time Lord scientist/biochemist could've grown the palace. It's one the best Doctor Who sets I've seen. One thing I will miss from this era is the production design. Although they made the 60th anniversary specials without the Disney budget so hopefully they can keep the quality up if they do continue the series in some form.

I'm trying to understand the logic behind Russell's decision making when it comes to all the classic callbacks in a soft-reboot meant to appeal to newcomers. The only thing I can come up with based on things he's said is that this all part of his MCU-ification of Doctor Who with it being on Disney Plus now. So he's treating classic who like the MCU treats the Marvel comics. But internationally the classic show isn't as accessible and he underestimates how many people are interested in that. It's not like comic fans.

The MCU does a better job at introducing comic book concepts and characters in a way that explains and justifies them instead of just looking straight into the camera and saying, "REMEMBER GLUP SHITTO??? CLAP!!!" I never felt lost in an MCU movie because of lack of familiarity with the comics, but I genuinely feel lost and confused with all these Doctor Who memberberries because they're given zero context, build-up, or explanation.

Even back in the beginning of NuWho, they RTD was better at introducing OldWho concepts in a way that didn't assume the audience knew what it all was. The Master's first introduction as Yana was hype as fuck even though I had never even HEARD of OldWho at that time, because effort was put into building up the concepts around him in such a way that a brand new NuWho-only viewer could get completely invested and fully understand everything.

With this newest season introducing the Rani, it's just:
