Billy Corgan is difficult. Gen X/Old Millenials don't go for nostalgia that hard unless they are super normies, and they only want to see Backstreet Boys and Oasis. They aren't really like Boomers - you won't see Pumpkins and The Strokes doing shows in their 80's.

Everything great about Billy got them ahead of the rest of the rock bands of the early-mid 90s. He’s a genius, but he never made anything accessible on a rock radio level after Adore because he’s also an enormous gaping asshole of self worth that stopped allowing creative cohesion. Adore shouldn’t have even been as good as it was.

Green Day isn't that many levels more normie than Smashing Pumpkins and they're still selling out good sized arenas and stadiums.

because they were old at that point, I can't think of any 90s groups that are still putting out anything culturally relevant. All of those bands are in the late stage of their career at this point. Must be super comfy for the few of them who didn't die. You just tour a few months out of the year, do a few podcasts, maybe a late night talk show, and then spend the rest of the year relaxing with a boatload of money

If Corgan didn't rhyme Adore with Whore it would have been a lot lot better. We were going into the 2000s when turbo feminism was taking over and women weren't going to stand for being called a whore even in a cute way.
