Holy fricking shit...
Doctor who is BACK.
RTD SAVED US..
LETS GOOOOOOOO
Doctor Who
what am i looking at
doctor who fans are going nuts on twitter
I believe it, it certainly makes the weird "smacked bottom" line actually make sense
I'm a chud and still think that the latest episode was the best Who has been in years, it genuinely felt like something straight out of the old RTD era. Shooty also finally getting to be le dark and serious Doctor rather than just fucking crying every episode was great.
It's the the Rani aka Mrs Flood during her bi-regeneration.
This show is totally retarded now. First they establish that Time Lords can change gender when regenerating by turning the Master into "Missy" - even though the original canon has "Time Ladies" (Romana & the Rani).
Now they have bi-regeneration when the character splits into two versions of the same gender.
It's just bat shit insane, because regeneration is supposed to happen when the character is basically dying and regenerates to save themselves.
Now it's just some kind of weird mitosis and Both versions survive. NuWho has done a lot to get rid of 'gendering' the Time Lords and now they bring back a legacy character that refers to herself as "a Time Lady" and is still female.
disaffected youth
sex-coded death
Why are Brits so fucking gay?
look at what lefty whofags are saying in response to the episode on leddit/xwitter/youtube reactions
"the episode was bad because the Corporation/Hellion thing was clearly an Isreal/Palestine allegory and saying murdering trillions as revenge isn't a good form of protest is bad, guy that wanted to massacre trillions was the good guy, ackshually"
holy fuck leftoids are actually so fucking insane and deranged, why are they like this? Do they seriously not realise how fucking crazy they seem to most people? How did they even get to this point?
They can not enjoy stories as stories. It has to always be an allegory for something. They're gay nerds after all.
calling a terrorist babes and honey
before electro-torturing him on the floor
Based, he didn’t even care about The Corporation just fucked off
How is a gay bloke such a simp
does absolutely nothing most episodes
yet the Doctor constantly goes on about the amazing Belinda Chandra, the most amazing person I’ve ever met
Because all women are supposedly amazing and not one is just some average bitch.
BBC front page:
Billie Piper and David Tennant to return for special Doctor Who celebration
The actual article:
bbc.co.uk
Special episode of Doctor Who: Unleashed celebrating 20 years of revival announced
Wow. Are you guys looking forward to Billie Piper and David Tennant appearing in Doctor Who: Unleashed?!
To be fair this wasn't even subtext. Clearly it's inspired by those big, evil corporations doing racisms IRL.
Had to double-check the writer wasn't a 15-year-old who won a competition or something.
All the things I hear about Doctor Who over these last however many years, I have not watched anything since 12th, are the sort of things anons 10 years back would shitpost about in what is the most retarded thing the show could do. If I did not know better it comes across as self-parody at this point.
They've already reunited to do Big Finish audios.
Clearly it's inspired by those big, evil corporations doing racisms IRL
We literally had a decade and a half of corporations bending over backwards for ass loads of gay shit. What the fuck are they talking about?
So there is keeping Timeless Child, Gallifrey still gone, Tennant again, The Toymaker, Sutekh, Rani, bigeneration both the first time and again, all the other crap, and Susan coming back in all this abomination. What is there still left for RTD to do awfully either new or dragging up from the past?
The show has no stakes after making the Doctor a literal God who can't die.
Isn't Omega rumoured? I mean he has always been rumoured to return, but so has the Rani and here she is so by this point I can see it. No idea if the show is hinting towards that or not as I am not watching it. The other one to throw in the ring is bringing back Romana. You do not even have to do anything bad with her (though odds are if he was then it would be bad), it is just the same way you don't want Susan being associated with any of this shit.
Maybe colonialism and mercantilism from a few centuries ago? (That we should all STILL feel bad about.)
'Colony in Space' hit the same themes, it was written by an outright Marxist, but it was also genuinely good. I think a big part of the problem is squeezing these stories into 45 minutes rather than multi-part episodes.
This had a 10 second flashback of the Tiefling planet. Almost as well-developed as the 15-second flashback of Belinda's incel nice guy toxic abuser. In both cases, AFTER the reveal/evil plan, almost like a coda.
Don't forget that using the term Time Lady is bad because Ladies are supposedly subordinate to Lords despite Missy saying it's an upgrade.
From what we've seen so far, when they bi-generate timelords get progressively darker in skin tone. After three of these they'll have the color of a black hole.
It was good when Capaldi was briefly blind and Tennant being terrified of not being himself
The difference between Hulke and writers now is he was earnest in his beliefs and even when being unabashed he both understood what his audience wanted and he did not hate them.
Big crossover event bringing together the characters from Doctor Who, Class, and Starz Torchwood.
Maybe a cameo by the kids from Dark Season, and it all ties into the new Sea Devil/UNIT show.
apparently the actual real-life Eurovision really is funded/sponsored by Israel or something which is why they think the allegory is intentionally there (also the fact that the land of Canaan in the Bible/Torah is called 'the land of milk and honey' and the Poppy Honey thing with the Hellion planet)
so basically the episode is supposedly trying to do a commentary on this about the Eurovision... and the lefty audience is like 'but massacring people in protest is justified though, muh oppressed palis can do no wrong.' Whether this connection is actually intentional and not them being schizos and reaching I dunno, I'm curious as to when this episode was actually written and if it really is intended like that (Dot and Bubble for example was apparently originally written for 11's era years ago and repurposed despite how Current Event(tm) it seemed)
but massacring people in protest is justified though
They believe this while crying about fascism.
and it all ties into the new Sea Devil/UNIT show.
the series is set to feature UNIT as they attempt to prevent a global war caused by the return of the Sea Devils.
Genocide them, Kate.
Omega is all but confirmed since he was part of the leak dump which included the Doctor meeting Doctor Who fans, the Midnight sequel, the Fugitive Doctor showing up last week, Susan returning, and Mrs Flood being the Rani and bi-generating.
the Fugitive Doctor
I must have missed this - I'm only keeping up through these threads. What did they do with her?
Agree. The Doctor should have some fear otherwise his bravado means nothing.
Eccleston sells being terrified of the Dalek in Dalek. The unease the Doctor has over the Beast knowing about the Time War and claiming to be before time.
AS IF 4 didn't wear a hat
I thought bigeneration was rare? Also, pretty interesting that jeetrani has her hair done up nice despite being a new lifeform
Yep, feels like being talked down to.
youtube.com
Miss little moments like this. Alien culture shock =/= racism, you alien little shit.
7th
I like in that episode where the Doctor needs to come up with a gift and his solution is air from my lungs. That's the sort of guile and alien yet not too alien mindset the Doctor needs.
Last week they went to Africa and the Doctor meets a character who he remembers meeting when he was the Fugitive Doctor (despite the fact he's not supposed to remember being her). Its funny because she doesn't appear in a flashback like you'd expect, the Doctor just spontaneously turns into her for 5 seconds whilst speaking with the character (presumably for the audience and not literally). Really it was just a very transparent excuse to have the other black Doctor appear in the black episode.
Kinda like how Jodie appeared with dyed blonde hair and ears that had been pierced.
Regeneration would be cooler if it was more body horror-esque instead of flashing lights like in the TV movie or here youtu.be
i forgot about the piercings
Shit over Rassilon again, as is Tradition
I stopped watching the Flash too early.
Yeah, based on the rest of the writing and that the show itself is fine in the end, I'm leaning towards schizo shit.
Remember when Lawrence Miles (VNA author) thought picrel was a racist, xenophobic attack against asylum seekers coming to the UK?

Follow-up once he'd calmed down, turns out he actually does have schizophrenia:

The costumes resembling pigs, chameleons, vultures, and wasps were created for the Coldplay music video for Trouble in Town.[7]
You now know that the Most Expensive Episode of Doctor Who Evar! had to recycle aliens from a fucking five year old music video
The thing to think about Hulk is his friendship and working with Terrance Dicks. Hulke and Dicks were ideologically different, and in general the writers and producers came from different backgrounds and outlooks. The problems now are threefold. Firstly, the vast majority of are all of a similar outlook - and often have little experience in writing or are only experienced in writing. Secondly, they lack any nuances and subtly, and think it is a good thing if they piss the audience off. Thirdly, Doctor Who has been dominated/controlled by the same circle for 20 years (even longer if you include their works in the Wilderness Years - to put in perspective RTD2 is like Innes Lloyd produce from 1966-1968 coming back to run the show in 1988. So no differing ideas, no new ideas, an no respect for the audience.
The Unquiet Dead
Shame no one listened. Now that's an episode we need today.
Funny how they did consider bringing back Patrick Troughton in the 80's(and Tom Baker in the 90's), but rightly realised they had to move forward.
shitloads of unique aliens at a concert
They did it better last time.
Yes, Sydney Jewman suggested bringing back Troughton and then having the Doctor become a woman. But then Troughton fucked a Jo Martin an died. Fucking hero that man is.
Nah, you don't get rid of the undesirables by turning OFF the gas supply...
Bi-regeneration feels like a terribly interpreted version of the other Doctor growing from that hand before.
I liked this guy and the funny alien head characters but nothing else at all
I have seen black people watching it.
A 15 year old who won a competition would have more talent then the actual Dr who writers
you watching them like birds?
oh and the hell girl, the scottish(?) one
Every current companion the Doctor has is the most important woman in the whole universe.
I'd bet money on his next two seasons just being daleks and master again
they should try bringing back the doctor.
When you look at it a lot of NuWho was just treading water or getting too caught-up on the past. That says nothing about whatever pillaging from EU stuff or just recycling ideas from Classic. By RTD2 you have full-blown regression of Nu itself with both RTD's return and with 14th.
Could combine all those hotel schemes into one, I suppose.
Shooty also finally getting to be le dark and serious Doctor
The problem is he's fucking terrible at it, every time he tries to be threatening he just sounds like he's itching to suck your dick.
the african one or the eurovision one? the african one was on par with a mediocre mid-season RTD1 episode, which in this day and age is a very good episode
Other than the issues with the people working on it, I do wonder if the nature of NuWho just in the medium and long term undermined it. With RTD1 you get the intent to make it so mass appeal by making it that character relationship and drama heavy, along with both the self-inserting aspect of the female companion taking a hold and you have the increasing escalation of season finales. With Moffat you get mystery boxes and pondering about the lore & character. When you look at a lot of that stuff brought about by the two of them it: detracts from the episodic nature of the show which overtime can lock people out if they are casual; it is not sustainable to keep trying to one-up the end of the world event or be more clever than the last seasons mystery; if you fail with the season arc you simply fail as a whole or at least tarnish the episodes within it; the audience/fanbase has expanded to such broad extent that it is not clear what the target audience is, which means it is a balancing act of trying to please everyone which means you can please no one and huge segments will leave if you do not pander to them which means it gets deemed a failure of the show when they go. There is almost an element of Doctor Who burning itself out, and so quickly as well. That short term popularity was chosen over long term stability and ability to keep it going.
Seeing him desperate to get out of the room in Dalek was the only time I thought the Daleks were scary.
In one of the commentary videos, RTD compared Ruby Sunday to Rey from Star Wars. He, correctly, preferred her as an ordinary person with ordinary parents.
Belinda is just some nurse. She's not a bi-generation of Susan, or the Rani's daughter, or I SWEAR TO GOD RUSSELL
He, correctly, preferred her as an ordinary person with ordinary parents.
I am still fucking baffled you are supposed to belief Ruby's mysterious christmas powers, the fairy circle shit, EVERYTHING weird about her was just Sutekh having cosmic glaucoma and being unable to tell an unwanted british bint from a potential rival.
They really did an episode in the backrooms
is torchwood still a thing
Predates it the Backrooms. Liminal spaces have long been drawn upon either consciously or subconsciously by creatives even if the majority of audiences did not know the term or the concept was not as popular.
Dan Stevens for the new Doctor Who
Dan Stevens would probably could be a good Doctor, because he can act and would not just play himself.
OVERNIGHT FIGURES ARE IN
EPISODE 6 HAD AN AVERAGE VIEWING FIGURE OF 2.6M
Don't tease me with something i'll never have.
Wasn't it sandwiched between the FA Cup finale and Eurovision? Does it count people who had the TV on 5 minutes after or before watching them.
That says nothing about whatever pillaging from EU stuff
Mostly from the 8th Doctor.
1st companion's a blonde who falls in love with the Doc (Sam/Charley/Rose)
Destroys Gallifrey to end a Time War
has a hot blonde daughter (Miranda/Jenny)
spaceship over London (Dying Days/Christmas Invasion)
kisses his companions
stays in one place to protect it for hundreds of years (Orbis/Trenzalore)
finds his future corpse (Alien Bodies/Name of the Doctor)
Helped that they redesigned it to look less ridiculous. Too bad it's still just a slow mini-tank you can easily outrun. Cybermen would've been cooler.
Seriously why is anyone still watching this show? I was never into it but it’s obviously completely shit now. Why not put that time you spend watching this slop to use and just let this shit die?
Reboot it with him in the role. Wipe the slate clean.
Who sisters.....we are back
Maybe we won't even be cancelled
He can change, I say, as my love beats me. He can change, and he said he would.
How will the chuds cope?
Why did we just surrender nerd culture to the queers?
Since she is an indian monster you have to assign high value to her.
It is really sad how they don't even try to hide the fact they know that what people believe and think is based off the media they consume. They used to be subversive with their propaganda now they don't even try.
It is just here "worship this nigger" here "worship this indian cunt". Then people do!
The nerds just wanted friends and realised too late they were an invasive group. It explains the rise of "alt right grifters" who appeal to the nerds that just want their space back
Most anons are not. They are just morbidly curious about the latest baffling or shitshow decision making that they learn by the few anons that do outlining, posting webms. A lot of the time these threads are just discussing old stuff, and even if nominally about the latest episode they become that or shitposting. It is like how Star Trek threads rarely and barely talk about the new stuff, beyond reacting to how bad it is and shitting over it.
He'd have to beat off a lot of British actors...
This is true. I made up a lie about the latest episode a few threads ago and I've seen it repeated here. I not watched a new episode since The Timeless Child
No it's the average viewership across the entire slot. The peak viewership will be close to 3m.
Shame you missed the masterpiece episode The Giggle.
He would have to beat off a lot of men to get the part
youtube.com
I liked the RTD1 designs for the Daleks and Cybermen. They looked industrial and sturdy.
Wow, still lower than The Fux despite being sandwiched between two popular events.
Bragging about a ratings boost caused by footy and Eurovision isn't the win he thinks it is
But it's funny to see him admit that without it then it almost certainly would have declined further
Live TV is dead outside of live events tbqh
Because corporations are in control of it and they have spend the last 10-15 years either cynically allied to such groups or, (what increasingly happened through such cynical support for said groups giving way to organisations being transformed to earnestly believe it) such groups entrenched themselves into corporations & the media. A lot of this goes back to corporate concern over widespread backlash to the 2008 financial crisis, so they started supporting these things to either divide any united left-right call for change or to stop the left going on about economic reform by shifting them to focus on social/cultural affairs.
How is 8 gay?
Too bad about the loud ass footsteps.
So the Doctor had the Two Tone Chromed Edition sonic screwdriver this episode, pink instead of the usual blue.
What other imaginative Character Options merchandise would you like to see in the show, /who/?
How is that a screwdriver?
Why does BBC almost passive aggressively pander? It's like they jump through so many hoops to NOT have a straight white man be a good guy. In fact the only recent episode with a straight white guy, he turns out to be an evil internet conspiracy theorist
It just is. They wanted to make it less like a gun so American children won't imitate it.
That's why in this episode he uses it to shoot robots and blow up a doomsday cube.
It's because geeky tech types are neurotic and evil. Probably incels, too.
Except when it's the Doctor. Then he's a charismatic genius, and everyone SHOULD listen to him.
It just is. They wanted to make it less like a gun so American children won't imitate it.
I find it ridiculous that RTD did the whole "we must change the screwdriver because we don't want people pointing it like a gun/knife!" thing because... it was him that started it. The screwdriver in classic was held up vertically like an ice cream cone, RTD in 2005 was the one who turned it into a laser that gets pointed at things.
The old show liked to shit on non-nerd types because the nerd writers were still seething at the "jocks" for being likable and popular.
So should Harry Potter get rid of their wands now? Are they that fucked in the head?
AAAH HE'S EVIL BECAUSE... BECAUSE... BECAUSE HE WANTS UNIT TO NOT KEEP WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION SECRET
In all fairness, it looks better that way. And it was better in series 1 when it looked like it took some time and tinkering to use, no psychic "think and click" bullshit.
Think that was just Robert Pattinson.
The old show liked to shit on non-nerd types
Like who? All the named UNIT soldiers were fine. Sabalom Glitz was a cool guy. I suppose Jamie was the butt of a few jokes.
Ian took down a Roman soldier with a single thumb. Even Venusian karate isn't that powerful.
I suppose Jamie was the butt of a few jokes.
Which are more to do with Jaime being a man out of time and were never nasty.
What does 15th even use it for in his episodes?
The show has fallen into the trap of thinking "there's no hard canon" somehow means "continuity and rules are meaningless." In the long term being careless about this can kill a franchise. Now there's too many secret Doctors and clones popping up, Gallifrey keeps flipping on and off like a lightswitch, the universe has ended and been reborn several times, companion fates are getting retconned or reversed on a whim, you can just duplicate the TARDIS by whacking it with a hammer, scifi logic and technobabble have been replaced by outright magic and god-pantheons, etc. An overload of these things can make a franchise feel shambolic, like nothing matters.
Also NuWho was best when it deftly walked the tonal line. When as a kid it's like a cool forbidden adult show, and as an adult you notice it's a family show that doesn't really feel like a kid's show due to its frequent forays into horror or moral relativism or heavy drama. NuWho hasn't always toed this tonal line perfectly but Gatwa's era... well S01 opened with Space Babies.
Yeah they don't do the Mickey or Rory thing, which is a fair criticism.
And I'm looking at traditionally masculine men, but who aren't "problematic". They don't get shit on?
Other than what the other reply as said of what examples, what about the other extreme of Adric? I would not say the show shits on him, but the Doctor in both his Fourth and Fifth incarnations gets pissed off with him.
Was the terrorist dude the only straight white male in the episode?
Think it was Post-Remembrance that it started to head towards that.
Twitter lefties are turning on the show
Crazy how they can't understand that killing billions of people is never justified.
Indians own britain
and they say the right misread the show.
the likes of Hamas (who these fucking freaks are referring to whenever they talk about ""muh freedom fighters"") quite literally ARE misguided violent wackos who want to kill indescriminately IN REAL LIFE
the fact that these leftist fuckwits can't see this and think it's justifiable somehow and are genuinely literally unironically at the point where they're like 'killing people including children and even rape are completely ok and morally good in response to being oppressed' is so fucking crazy to me. How the fuck are these people actually real and just casually walking amongst the rest of us on a day to day basis? How can you think shit like this and not have a moment of reflection of how fucking insane and evil it is? Actual mental illness
The world has literally gone mad
Killing three trillion civilians > slow, non-violent """direct action""" and protest.
Those tweeters are not revolutionaries, they are cowards.
Just remember Twitter is not real life, and they're in their own little bubble.
It's basically an evolution of Tumblr, in fact the same userbase jumped ship there.
god missy was such a hot crazy hag. you have no idea if she'd suck you dry or vaporize you
Footy enjoyers leave the telly on
Gays tune in early to watch Eurovision
WHAT A FUCKING WIN FOR DOCTOR WHO
Somebody should write a Doctor Who episode with the Daleks in which there's like some straggling remnant of Daleks fighting to survive somewhere and when the Doctor shows up to stop their plan to kill billions of people through some macguffin the Daleks are like "exterminating our oppressors is justified because we're a minority being persecuted''
I wonder how lefty fags would respond to that
based on my understanding of tumblr logic, he said hello to a man once
Has every single villain been a White man?
He has the look of a good Doctor.
they got to this point because their world view, which would have been normally rejected by the masses, was instead propped up by The Establishment, billionaires, and corporations with absolutely no questioning or criticism being allowed lest you be removed from "polite society". Now we're here where the most vile people have had their insane world view reinforced to such a degree they now believe they are the resistance and good guys.
doesn't really matter now though because the money has dried up and reality has come a knockin'
Ep1
incel white man
Ep2
blue cartoon man
Ep3
Midnight entity
Ep4
right wing white man
Ep5
black man
Ep6
one dimensional white man
50% of villains have been straight white men so far.
He kind of looks like Sam Witwer.
No, the guy in the African barbershop episode was a black man
the Midnight entity was also an invisible nondescript being of no racial character
Mrs Flood/Rani is an old white woman and New Rani is an Indian woman
The guy you posted looks kinda gay. The eyebrows and pouted lips give it away.
Sutekh having cosmic glaucoma and being unable to tell an unwanted british bint from a potential rival.
You just gotta headcanon it as being Omega fucking with Sutekh from behind the scenes.
Now we're here where the most vile people have had their insane world view reinforced to such a degree they now believe they are the resistance and good guys.
How can they be the resistance when the establishment was supporting them? You can't be counter-culture if the culture's in your favor.
t. fugly dork
We don't sign our posts
Rest easy in the knowledge that when the masses get their say (actual Eurovision last night) they hugely back Israel.
literally who?
celebrating 20 years of revival
At least they finally did SOMETHING.
Kino, even RTD's most diehard fans think he's a fucked up human being
it's a strange scenario in which the establishment was supporting them to a point while they themselves kept being like 'the establishment is still not left enough, even though all the corpos and media are on our side we're still gonna call them facists for being right of Stalin because they don't want literal communism and are capitalists'
somehow they never cottoned onto the fact that they were just temporary useful pawns for the capitalist establishment and their fringe bullshit could easily be integrated into the system - now the pendulum is swinging the other way and the leftoids are getting dropped like rocks now that they're not financially beneficial anymore since they overplayed their hand and normalfags have woken up to how fucking crazy they are so they're going full retard, even in response to shows like Who that are still staggered behind due t development time with lefty messaging
Had to double-check the writer wasn't a 15-year-old who won a competition or something.
No, it's a diversity hire tranny.
This guy.
The books implied he had a homosexual relationship with another Time Lord.
I noticed this the most last year when, at the cinema, there was nowhere anywhere that listed what films were showing (let alone times), while the mandatory pride flags were everywhere.
We get a white and hindu woman as villains and the super mario 64 hand creature for the season finale. So it balances out
How do you know the time lord wasn't female when it happened?
Other things the youtuber brings up in the comments
"Male presenting timelord"
DNA tracking of humans saving the day which is seen as Big Brother
Almost killing a man on a livestream when you're the government's agency
Also the main defense from leftists mad at the youtuber is "Well he didn't know better." Yet there's still no consequences for the Doctor, his relationship isn't rattled with Belinda, etc. Remember consequences? Remember when 10th tried to be Time Lord Victorious and so a woman killed herself because of his actions? Remember when Clara freaked out on 12th for leaving her to make the decision for humanity?
I miss consequences in the show.
Institutions know better than the unwashed masses because they're all run by elitist lefties. Everyone knows this. Know your place.
As I said yesterday, up to Journey's End and then the new paradigm the show used to keep track of and explain the status of the Daleks. Since then it's just ''Whatever, here's some Daleks again'.
elitist lefties
IE nerds.
The show has been tainted forever from Jodie beginning her tenure and it's been getting beat to death repeatedly ever since. The EU might have gotten away with the timeless child, an incarnation identical to a previous, and maybe even whatever the hell they're doing with 15, but they've done all this in the show itself. It's set in stone forever. No amount of retcons or undoing can wash away the stink.
Stopped watching after giving Jodie a chance, which she wasted. I've gone back and watched the Hinchcliffe-Holmes era instead of the new stuff. I'm wanting to watch some of Troughton's tenure and maybe Pertwee's as well, but not too sure where to begin.
Remember anons, the good stuff still exists despite the shit they've been producing since 2018.
It followed The Well, where in a cast of 13 there was (I think) one single white guy.
Reboot. No geeky Crisis shit where some stuff counts. Full clean slate. Back to ZERO.
That's stupid though, you can't just wipe away over 60 years of Doctor Who.
They're rolling grandad out with a oxygen tank, one of those little defibrillators, he blinks every once in a while and they say see he's still alive
No geeky Crisis shit where some stuff counts. Full clean slate.
They wouldn't be able to do it. There's just no way. Maybe for awhile but not for it's entirety. Eventually there'd be a revelation that this universe was created after Gatwa had to pull a Big Bang 3 in the old universe before the two became one again. Some shit like that.
We're long overdue an appearance of the Anti Time Device
You weren't even alive for most of those years, my guy. Enough with the sentimental shit. Enough with the "historical value" you nerds like to attach to outdated shit that was surpassed by better works. The whole thing's fucked. Best to nuke it and start over.
He doesn't recognise Starkiller
You have to be at least 18 years old to post here.
Exactly why it never works. Because there's always gonna be some geek who wants to bring the past shit back as a way of shocking the viewers.
OH SHIT! IT WAS A SEQUEL THE WHOLE TIME!
Holy fucking shit I remember this. I got this as a gift when I was 6 or something. It had 3 options for blaster sound effects and then one option that was a combination of all three. The handle was huge, especially when given to a child, and felt awkward to hold. The eyestalk on mine didn't even work, but god did I use to run about with it pretending to be a Cyberman, but one of the 80s Classic Era ones since we had Earthshock and Silver Nemesis on the classic DVDs.
God...
Different anon, but I think it is fucked regardless. Say they do reboot hard. Well, unless things more generally change significantly then it will be the same shit as now. Even if improved considerably it is as a level that is just elevating absolute dogshit to dogs hit. Also, they could just as easily bring in the worst aspects of the original, either from the outset or incrementally, and be unbound by any nominal constraints of the original. Maybe doomer take, but I just think it is over. You cannot resolve the current run, they will not pull off a new run as we would want it to be.
Still gay
Who would've been a better enemy in the Time War?
Cybermen
Vampires
Omega
OC
Time Lord civil war.
I just think it is over. You cannot resolve the current run, they will not pull off a new run as we would want it to be.
This. They at least had a decent foundation to work off of when bringing it back. No matter how they approach it they'd never be able to top what came before. How the hell would there ever be another episode like 'Dalek'?
Speaking of which, have the Daleks ever been used well in anything other than Dalek, Remebrance, Genesis and the Cushing movies?
Depends on how it presents itself
Pulp adventure
Sci-Fi Horror
Gothic Horror
Tech Noir
I tried catching up with nuwho but the further I go, the more obvious it becomes that it's a zombie. any sense of "this is actually the same show about the same man that is constantly made and written by different people but it's still the same thing with the same soul" disappears once the woman doctor arrives, and nothing ever again feels like it's the same show. it works with the same name, tries to fly the same colors, but it feels like a stranger pretending to be someone you know
They just need to cast a middle aged weirdo white male. It's the golden ticket. They can deny it all they want, but it's the only way to save the franchise. If the actor playing the Doctor is interesting enough, they can power through shit writing with charisma alone
Ahem
FUCK DALEKS
FUCK CYBERMEN
EAT ANTI TIME
Rebooting entirely would make the show unrecognisable, and not in a good way. You'd be pissing off every fan to grab a temporary new audience. Awful.
So The Master?
the people making this show will NEVER admit this because the implication behind it is uncomfortable (most people find it more entertaining and interesting to watch a stern white man getting shit done, and all the pride parade stuff they supposedly champion is actually boring or unappealing to the masses)
Speaking of which, have the Daleks ever been used well in anything other than Dalek, Remebrance, Genesis and the Cushing movies?
Power of the Daleks and Evil of the Daleks are both peak Dalek. Shame is you need to watch them reconstructed as only the audio fully survives. I cannot see remember if all of Power footage is missing, but Evil is 7-parts and it is something like only 1 part has existing original footage.
You'd be pissing off every fan to grab a temporary new audience. Awful.
The show's already done enough of that to begin with. What is there to lose?
Seems like something Abslom Daak would use
I let it be known that we were looking for a new Doctor and made my requirements very specific. He's got to have a certain charisma, a certain thing that made you want to watch him even if what was going on on the screen wasn't particularly interesting. He should be wild, he should be eccentric, something that was different. - Barry Lets on casting the Fourth Doctor
...and what did it get them? Tom motherfucking Baker. You've cracked the code anon
Restart with 7th regenerating cause no fucking way Paul McGann says he'll come back
8th Doctor replicates some of the crueler aspects of 7th, only heightened after having lost Ace
Not full on horror but darker themes with show aimed at a more teenager/adult demographic. Don't want to just be a black mirror clone
Stop holding punches about politics. Don't just go "X is bad" fucking show the horrors that could be caused by your topic
E.x. A corporation that runs a candy factory where kids are tortured to create the candy. Even after its exposed in the news, people just shrug because it's not their kids being harmed. Or it's brushed under the rug because the candy company pays off the news outlet. Villain argues that everything people enjoy requires sacrifice and that if these sacrifices are never made, no one would ever get the luxuries of life they desire. Doctor bankrupts the candy company and taunts the villain into killing themselves.
"Sacrifices have to be made to better our society. Your words I recall."
I was thinking more two factions rather than anything with The Master. Maybe something like interventionists vs non-interventionists? Or Time Lord civilisations from two different timelines and it is competing for which timeline win.
they can power through shit writing with charisma alone
This is what carried a lot of classic and nuwho through its rougher patches. I rewatched series 7 recently and while I still maintain it's an ultimately bleh set of episodes, I realize now they're still alright because Smith really sells this idea of an aging 11th Doctor. Episodes like Journey to the TARDIS are Chibnall tier when you look at them on paper, but they give Smith a chance to be an unpredictable manipulative cunt so it ends up working somehow because he makes it work. Whereas if you placed Whittaker or Gatwa in his spot I think the series would feel so much worse.
The way the show is now is still salvageable and you'll always get people buying any random Doctor Who shit. You're forsaking that revenue to chase at best temporary success for a season or two before the new fans get bored and you're left with nothing because the die hards got betrayed.
The idea there's no hard canon has never been true anyway. There's always been canon. The fact that the Doctor travels through time in a police box etc.
The fact is that trying to document a 60 year old franchise through the likes of Tardis Wiki doesn't work, because it wasn't designed for that. Continuity wasn't purposely disregarded like it is now, it was simply a case of writers forgetting certain things.
The idea there's no canon was merely pushed by the likes of Paul Cornell who were seething that their shitty OCs weren't being accepted by all the fandom. These people have utterly fucked the franchise now though since now the idea is effectively official and now nothing matters because the Doctor can be literally anything you want.
For me, it's Eccleston
The problem is that RTD definitely cast Ncuti thinking he was super charismatic and that audiences would love him. But he's so out of step with what normal people like because he's been in a LGBTQ+ bubble for decades
This is the problem. If there is a 16th Doctor, they’ll just double down with the stunt casting. There won’t be another charismatic straight white male in this role, because that’d be admitting defeat
Not sure it’s still salvageable under the current showrunner. Maybe they could compromise and give Gatwa an open ended regeneration, then start with an unnumbered incarnation with missing memories a few years later. Anything post 2017 should never be referenced again
Does /who/ prefer The Doctor Falls, Twice Upon A Time, or The Giggle as a ending for the series?
The Doctor Falls
Twice Upon A Time
Just listen to the Narrated Soundtracks. They're like Big Finish but with a narrator.
The Doctor Falls is the answer. Twice Upon A Time I dislike how it handles First and there is the bigger issue it has 13th, though that over The Giggle and what comes between Twice and it. The Giggle? You are lost if you think that it is the answer.
Or Time Lord civilisations from two different timelines and it is competing for which timeline win.
Yeah, I'd fuck with that. It'd be an actual TIME War.
Yeah Rylan Clark is unfrozen every year to present a song contest and is somehow completely untraumatised by his whole planet being dead and was somehow frozen before May 2025 because that makes perfect sense
First guy wasn't an incel and he was played by a gay actor too.
You're forsaking that revenue to chase at best temporary success for a season or two before the new fans get bored and you're left with nothing because the die hards got betrayed.
Why can't the old fans enjoy the reboot? What would be so polarizing about it that they'd reject it?
How do you know he’s gay?
The Doctor, his companion and The Master (Missy) canonically die on the Mondasian Colony Ship saving all those people from the cybermen.
Brits are so ugly is mind Bigelow lol. Bigelow
he literally gets called an incel in the episode itself though
'planet of the incels' (I still can't believe this was actually a real line of dialogue said on actual real television)
After getting a whole new regeneration cycle? Damn.
He was salvaged from the wreackage of Earth
wasn't an incel
It's literally the Planet of the Incels episode.
played by a gay actor
Tell that to RTD.
OC like The Enemy, or the Osirans. Daleks feel threatening to the Doctor but not the Time Lords in classic who
Just have the Doctor go to another universe and get stuck there. That's a way to do a soft reboot. They can reintroduce the classic monsters again and put a twist on each of them (and if that doesn't work just bring the old monsters to the new universe). Also, more importantly, it gets rid of all the baggy lore retardation that they've added in the past
I figured it about two seconds into the episode when he started speaking.
I'd echo what said. There is little reason to be confident that a reboot will please old / hardcore fans or even capture a casual audience. Anything anytime new will not be any different to the state of now as the culture of the BBC is itself a problem. It should also be said that there was never a given that 2005 revival took off as it did. The idea of being able to capture that should not be taken as a given.
Okay but why was he frozen then?
So they can re-use him every year without him ageing
At that point he was wrestling with his inner demons anyway, believing he lived too long, he'd refuse to regenerate if given the chance (He'd die in an explosion before that happens though).
He was even questioning whether he was a good man, and that he was given that face as a reminder to save people, exactly like what he was doing on the colony ship.
God forbid he carries on his life and does bad out-of-character stuff.
Tbf it would track with RTD’s habit of hiring twinks he’s worked with on his other shows like It’s a Sin. If he gets to pick a 16th Doctor, you can bet it’ll be someone from that
Ncuti is charismatic enough.
Anything anytime new will not be any different to the state of now as the culture of the BBC is itself a problem
Who said the BBC would be behind it?
In a vacuum without having to include Series 11-13 in the show, I think Power of the Doctor might actually be the strongest ending for the series. We get to see classic Doctors and companions reunite, the companion support group talking while 13 is regenerating is a nice touch, and the Doctor just welcomes in one last sunset while welcoming in the new regeneration that if it was the end of the show we wouldn't have seen.
Yeah but Belinda was his girlfriend which meant he had a chance with females.
Why is is so fat?
the companion support group
Trash
Why would they not? Saying they will sell it is wild speculation and wishful mental. Even if not the BBC, plenty of other companies can in their own ways be detrimental. Would any of us have honest confidence in say a Amazon's Doctor Who.
He doesn't have the right kind of charisma for the role. The Doctor is a Sherlock Holmes type of an arrogant genius, he's not the "slick shiny androgynous always-smiling ken doll who says HONEY BABS SUGAR" type of charismatic.
The Doctor is a Sherlock Holmes type of an arrogant genius
And Tom played that perfectly.
Any moment now, she’s a coming, The Doctor and I always will be. But times change and so must I. We all change, when you think about it.
I'm thinking of another company licensing it from the BBC.
I don't think it's a good episode, but I'll admit it's a much better anniversary special than the Tennant trilogy
By making it a complete clean slate you're essentially asking old fans to choose between the Doctor Who they've known for all of their life or a new show calling itself Doctor Who. It's essentially the 2005 reboot except even harsher as everything is a different universe.
Reminder that the next Doctor will be played by Billie Piper
Because "Alonzy!" , "Correctomundo!" , "lickety-split!" , "Fantastic!" , "Geronimo!" , "...are cool." , "would you like a jelly baby", "reverse the polarity of the Nutron flow" , "I'm so sorry..." , "senpai", and all the other corny catchphrases the Doctor has had since the first Doctor's "Hmm" are absolutely fine, but you draw the line at him calling an attractive woman "honey". Are you a feminist or something?
They gonna retcon Bad Wolf and The Moment to have been a Future Doctor bleeding through?
at this point I say 'fuck it let's go'.
7 > 4
The Doctor Falls is the end of the revival. S01E01 Rose - S10E12 The Doctor Falls actually feels like one man going through his life and experiencing one long character arc about how he deals with death and finality, of other people and his own.
S11 and onward may share the same brand name and same premise, but the Doctor's arc feels complete and everything after that is like a fan spinoff. Whittaker didn't feel like a real continuation but that was OK because she could be ignored if the next Doctor was a return to form, but the next Doctor wasn't either so the thread feels broken and S1-10 feel like the actual show.
That'd require RTD to have watched Moffat's stuff. He'll just go for that face, say they'll explain it at some point. And then never explain it like 14.
If it's still plenty enjoyable, why should it matter? It's still Doctor Who. The Doctor is still having adventures throughout time and space. If it's good, it's good. Regardless of it being a new universe.
I will speak as honestly as I can: a lot of those were eccentric and made the Doctor feel like an eccentric man, out of time and out of place. The Doctor calling everyone BABES SUGAR the way Ncuti does isn't eccentric or anachronistic, it just makes him seem like an overly animated gay guy from a Soho nightclub.
Too short and the voice is too nasally.
7 has the best voice of all the classic Doctors.
I highly doubt that would happen. At most you would get some partnership like with now with Disney. Besides, who will want to licence it given the current state. Again, keep in mind that RTD1 got 2005 not through the BBC itself at large but through BBC Wales that he was closely connected to. The circumstances for 2005 were very specific. You need 1) someone interested in licensing it, 2) the BBC willing to go for that, 3) it being any good, and 4) people willing (even if it is) a chance.
They cut their own dick offs/ enthusiastically support their loving ones doing so, there's no coming back to normality ever for someone like that.
Im sceptical about this. It looks more like old Billie, than current bogged Billie
Who the fuck signed off on this?
If you're a nerd, sure. Dude's the Doctor tailor made for dweebs.
I'd like to thank RTD for coming back and proving why Moffat was the best show-runner by pissing off all of RTD's shills with the last season.
She'd almost definitely be better than Jodie and Ncuti, but it's absolutely a sign the show is out of ideas. I bet RTD brings Tennant back again but as a surprise villain (maybe the Master) because it's externally 2006 in his mind
She wouldn't be better than Ncuti.
youtu.be
This should be a good demo for how she'd be like.
I haven't watched this shite since the ginger sexo left
The Billie Piper rumours are a smokescreen for the real Sixteenth Doctor - Lawrence Fox
If Old Who allowed the Doc to be romantic with his companions, who would it be for each incarnation?
Why didn't river song bigenerate and live on beyond the library?
4 and Romana is the obvious.
What the fuck is a sex-coded death.
(and how can I get one)
5 and Adric
If you're rebooting it to the extent that everything in the show's past is gone, you're presumably going to make it a pretty different show to justify that. Good TV is good TV, but you're essentially spitting in the faces of the fans first. Plus, the hardcore types are the Big Finish fanatics who have invested god knows how many thousands into their Big Finish collection.
Somehow she forgot about that.
She used them all to save 11 from death in Let's Kill Hitler.
I'd be fine with Billie under any other showrunner because at least Moffat and Chibnall will try to do something more to justify it than y'know. RTD who's probably just gonna do it to milk nostalgia he has of his era.
Anon, why do you call your own twitter page "Doctor Who fans".
I forgot about that episode
Probably something like this: tardis.wiki
1, none with the exception of that Coco woman
2, Jamie (that's just the vibe I get)
3, Jo
4, SJS then Romana
5, Tegan & Nyssa in a throuple
6, Peri
7, none (I haven't read human nature, maybe he had a love interest like the adaption)
I'm all here for the Davis crashout.
He defended the show for ages and through the worst of it, it's just funny to see this be his breaking point and not any of the seasons before.
1 - Katarina
2 - Jamie
3 - Jo
4 - Romana
5 - Nyssa
6 - Peri
7 - Ace (Bernice if we include EU)
you're presumably going to make it a pretty different show to justify that.
The point of starting to fresh is to get rid of the previous continuity. It isn't always to change genres or formats. The show's done that anyway.
but you're essentially spitting in the faces of the fans first
As if the show didn't already do that.
the hardcore types are the Big Finish fanatics who have invested god knows how many thousands into their Big Finish collection.
Then they can still get their fix with audios taking place in the old universe. Simple.
RTD2 was supposed to be the golden age
Maybe colonialism and mercantilism from a few centuries ago?
Hardly motivated by '''''''racism''''''' so much as it was motivated by general desire to exploit the working classes.
It was just easier for these corporations and trading companies to exploit working classes from shitholes like India because there were more of them and the local native leaders had no care for workers' rights.
Working classes in Britain were treated like shit too. But there were less of them to go around and they did have *some* legal protections.
EU? What does that mean?
Anyone who watched RTD 1 over the age of 14, could easily have told you RTD2 wasn't going to be the golden age, or renaissance
It's only his breaking point because he's one of those leftists who've been utterly mindbroken by the Israel-Palestine conflict even though Hamas would murder him on sight
Nyssa
Agreed. She would've been great for him.
Ace
She's like a daughter to him
Bernice if we include EU
She jumped on 8's bones when she met him.
I didn't think that but I thought he would at least go for the populist approach, play it safe and appeal to the general audience.
he didn't even do that.
Expanded Universe, referring to books, audios and comics.
Taking the show in a different direction isn't bad, but essentially decanonising everything while doing so is extremely bad optics, and you might end up killing Big Finish by doing it as well.
even though Hamas would murder him on sight
Reminds me of that one white chick who went backpacking at the Moroccan mountains and got culturally enriched in the worst of ways.
It was over the moment he announced his first return episode would have a tranny character
but essentially decanonising everything while doing so is extremely bad optics
I thought Doctor Who didn't have a canon and continuity didn't matter? Bro, you're grasping at straws. You're acting liek those turbonerds who hate the new thing just because it's different, regardless of its actual quality. If the fans can't enjoy a reboot just because it's not the old universe, then that's on them. They'll still be getting new adventures through time and space but in a new continuity. If its the continuity that matters most to them, then are they really fans of the show or just its lore?
you might end up killing Big Finish by doing it as well.
Why? They'd still be producing Old/New Who audios. Possibly alongside ReWho ones.
just do to DrWho what JJ Abrams did to Star Trek
lol no
Rassilon created a virus to prevent intelligent non-humanoid life from evolving. This dude shouldn't exist.
Unironically Warwick Davis could do it
New Trek cheated by having the cause of the reboot be from people from the old universe traveling into the past and changing things.
Grasping at straws? It's obvious you're not a fan of anything that has to deal with this kind of stuff. Of course old fans won't like decanonising the rest of the show. Remember the backlash about Disney rendering the EU non-canon? What do you think would have happened if Disney said that Episodes 1-6 never happened?
They'd still be producing Old/New Who audios.
Not after interest massively dies from it being set in a universe that's essentially dead.
And it didn't even make sense because they somehow changed things that happened before the point they went back in time.
I don't to defend that shit but I heard a fan theory that since they changed the TOS events, they also changed the TNG events, which would then effect the events of 'First Contact',
and thus change events set before the Kelvin timeline split. I know it's convoluted, I just find it funny.
The show almost got its hard reboot in the 90s. It's what McGann was casted for until they decided to keep the old continuity. He would've been the First Doctor in this new universe. Borusa was his grandfather in it too.
Do they seriously not realise how fucking crazy they seem to most people?
they are most people
(in cities and of those who consume media)
The Flash did that too but explained that by using the Speed Force to travel through time, it creates a temporal shockwave or TIME BOOM that reverberates throughout all of time and space, slightly altering events but just enough to make all the difference.
lmao davies really did a sequel to midnight? Talk about desperate.
This is what the daleks would have looked like
I don't like it as a standard Dalek design but it works as a corruption, like the 'Skaro Degradations'
It's crazy how Davies was the only one who had some sort of sense with rebooting Doctor Who. One of the pitches for the reboot even had the show following some guy's radio story where the Doctor died and it would follow some completely new time lord.
they are most people
Nah, dude. Twitter isn't real life. These people are seen as insufferable wackos by the average person.
If The Doctor Falls faded to black after "I thought there'd be stars..." with just the sound of a regeneration it would've been a perfect ending to nu-Who's Doctor's arc.
2, Jamie (that's just the vibe I get)
What is wrong with you people? Why do you always see male kinship as romantic?
Why do you always see male kinship as romantic?
Are we regenerating?
More from the scrapped 90s reboot. Look familiar?
