This was the only good part of the episode. RIP Leon.

I find it funny how they protected Kait from the potential internet harassment to avoid a Laura Bailey situation, but it's Bella the one who got fucked over.

Bella is 100% fine from the interview with Louis Theroux I saw.

Abby sexxo

theyvw fumbled this season so hard that it's boring to even talk about, threads died hard because nothing has happened, everyone shares the same general criticism outside of here, there's a few rabid defenders who feel they have to be that way because of a few chuds over bella but even that's dead discussion. Shows dead. They're moving through the main plot fast with none of the meat that made the 2nd game good but somehow have talks of 3 aeasons with 2 year gaps? So strange to fund

Why is there a general for this garbage

I think I’m gonna be sick

Samefag

adapt scene for scene

fans complain it's boring

change shit

fans complain it's different

adaptations are fucked no matter which way they go.

What about Season 1? On the whole it's regarded as a good adaptation. I think so too, it's night and day compared to season 2, they have made so many weird changes that aren't cohesive at all

Also I just realised, you said it's boring to adapt scene by scene, TLOU S2 is boring but it HAS NOT been adapted scene for scene, it has made some very radical changes and additions actually, that have made everything worse, there is no grit to this story adaptation

Oh don't get me wrong, i think season 2 is very mediocre, bella is a shitty old ellie. Just a meta commentary.
Can't wait till we move on from ellie to abbie, but i'm pretty sure that's gonna be season 3 material.

As much as I don't like Pedro Pascal, I think he did a decent job in season 1, and on top of that he is a good enough actor to carry a show. Bella Ramsay is none of those things, and to make matters worse the script for season 2 is really bad. Even if she were a good actor, she would still struggle to carry along a shitty script. The only real redeeming parts of the game were the flashbacks. Telling the story of her fallout with Joel while she was going on this crusade to avenge him, for it to be shown at the very end they had just made up before Abby killed him was the only clever part of the game(storywise, the gameplay was actually excellent). But for whatever reason they decided to also axe most of the flashbacks. Looking at Bella Ramsay, and her body of work, it is clear that she is incapable of carrying a show. Hell she can't even carry the scenes she is in. Moner is a good and likeable actress, but even she isn't enough to offset the charisma vacuum that is Bella Ramsay. I think she will go down in history as the worst casting decision of all time.

Is this the worst casting of all time

Moner's acting kinda sucked when she was recalling her first kill. This season gets way too girlypop with the portrayal of Ellie and Dina's relationship. The bond in their relationship should be naturally developing from the circumstances they're experiencing and not from some ham-fisted bursts of teen audience pandering.

how the fuck did the cordyceps absorb them

I aren't watching this after watching the critical drinker review

It's offset by casting Moner as Dina

“Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable,” said series co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. “You can search forever for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those things, or you can find Isabela Merced right away."

I like Angry Bella
She's cute
The pony tail works better for Ellie

>adapt scene for scene

>fans complain it's boring

When has this ever happened

Moner being in a show is a death notice

his dark materials.
most adaptations aren't dumb enough to try this though, they usually pick up the highlight scenes and discard the rest.

She's carrying the show on her back

You've killed us both

Did I...?

The episode was kind of shit but that was a fucking cool one-liner.

I think this is the first episode of this season that was a bore for me. Its over, isnt it? Even Moner cant save this.

Here's your Ellie bro

Hillcrest also could've had a cool Children of Men car action scene but nah. We'll just have them kill stalkers in a factory.

Leave that to Vin

im kinda getting bored of lesbian action heroes

you need more lesbian action heroes

its amazing how this show has like $10 an episode budget and they cheap out so much, where is the money going? pedro's pay check?

Why didn't they just shoot themselves instead of allowing themselves to slowly morph into some fungus spreading ecosystem slop?

Because they only focused on it looking cool despite making zero sense.

*$10 million

>adapt scene for scene

I thought it was based on a videogame?

the "game" is like 50% cutscenes, it's a long movie with shitty gameplay in between.

I just can't get over how miscast Bella is.
You needed a very physical actor for this role and Bella ain't it.
She can't carry any of the action sequences and they look so goofy because of it.

shitty gameplay in

false

i like copy pasted encounters and environments

i'm too old for that shit.

That doesn't describe TLOU2 at all man.
TLOU2 has really great encounters and fun gameplay.
The issue is that it's only like 25% of the game.
The other 75% is walky talky bullshit, awful puzzles, cutscenes and looting the same 10 cupboards.

It's jsut a trite tps in a trite setting with trite enemies anon

copy pasted encounters and environments

So just like every other game?

TLOU2 has really great encounters

the levels all look the same and contain way too many enemies that all behave the same and look the same.
the level design is atrocious, good luck figuring out where to go next without the accessibility tool.

It's jsut a trite tps in a trite setting with trite enemies anon

We get it bro. You hate it because gruff gamer dad died and lesbians.

good luck figuring out where to go next

Skill issue.

kinda yeah, except the gameplay isn't satisfying in this one.
but either way, for a game that wants to be a cinematic experience, generating each level with dozens of enemies is a pure slog.

gets lost in a linear game

okay so you're actually retarded
got it

You may think that what you wrote makes sense but it doesn't. At all.

the level design is atrocious, good luck figuring out where to go next without the accessibility tool.

How in the absolute fuck did you get lost in a linear game? Are you retarded?

did i say i got lost?
i'm saying i shouldn't be taking 10 minutes running in circles figuring out where the devs put the small interactable object that lets me progress to the next level. this is called level design btw, some games have good level design like portal, and then there's shitty level design like this one.

Give me one example.

Sounds like you got lost.

you're retard harry

Madcuzbad while also calling it a moviegame

Lmao. Tlou2 on grounded is an absolutely singular third person/stealth/survival horror hybrid, it's an incredible experience as long as you aren't hysterically angry over women, trannies and that epic gruff gamer dad died. The No Return roguelite mode is also pure gameplay and I've put 100+ hours into that alone

Story aside, the last of us 2 is one of the best third person shooters I’ve ever played. Absolutely phenomenal gameplay.
Also Abby day 2 is the best day. Climbing up the skyscrapers, fighting the scars, going down into the hellish hotel where there’s infected everywhere and then ending it on the fight with the rat king in the hospital… fantastic

nta I'm playing it for the first time just started as abby, the game it outstanding, I was wondering and I don't care about spoilers do I get to play as ellie again or am I stuck with abby for the rest of the game?

*gameplay is outstanding
the story eh its ok

I used to agree but replaying it now I actually think Ellie day 2 is better.

Hillcrest

Hotel flashback

Seraphite encounter in the park

Hospital

Abby day 2 made me realize how much more I prefer fighting WLF than seraphites or infected.

You are with Abby for the full 3 days, about 10-15 hours total but you return to Ellie for the finale of the game, for about 2 hours

Honestly, I’m not a massive fan of Hillcrest. It’s one of the harder parts of the game and I personally prefer Seattle than the suburbs. Ellie day 2 is awesome tho and my favourite Ellie day. Navigating around to the hospital, going through the stalkers and chasing Nora was cool.

ok good, thanks

The game is basically mirrors the story of Ellie/Abby with a lot of the same events happening and it dovetails at the end.

He's never seen Holes.

They're really changing Ellie's character arc, in the game she's way, way more focused on revenge and slowly gets more and more absorbed in it, pushing away and/or endangering those that care about her. Here she immediately offers to go back with Dina (though there's some uncertainty to whether she means going back to the theatre or all the way to Jackson), likewise the earlier scene in the theatre where Dina reveals she's pregnant.

This season gets way too girlypop with the portrayal of Ellie and Dina's relationship

I suspect that's intentional to show they both don't seem to understand the depths of the situation they found themselves in and contrast it with what comes later (without any spoilers: shit gets way, WAY more fucked up - at least in the game)

WLF are barely an entity in the show

what are they even doing

i don't have a specific example, it was constant, where the fuck do i need to jump now to progress, where do i need to parkour, which shitty interactable do i need now. it was an upwards battle with the level designers all the way through.
thankfully i noticed the accessibility tool halfway in and at that point it was fine.

its worse than late stage the walking dead.

Nigga Naughty Dog playtests these games more than fucking Valve. If your average person can't figure something out, they change the entire level design and put a bunch of yellow tape on it to boot. You're basically saying that you're too low IQ for a naughty dog game and that's just rough.

you should know all of that just by looking at your eviroment, its intuitive for christs sake. You know where to parkour aka climb a wall w/e because you can see the how high it is, you can't jump on top of a truck that covered in vegetation you can if its not over grown, these are simple things, I'm sorry anon but you are legit retarded

i probably just don't have the patience anymore to deal with looking through copy pasted environments to find the exit.

game hospital

Ellie massacres two dozen people and two dogs to get to Nora

tv show hospital

doesn't kill a single guard

what

Ellie's bloodlust feels more earned in the game by this point, likely because she's already killed dozens of WLF soldiers and is battle-scarred. Obviously, she can't go slaughtering a bunch of heavily armed soldiers in the show, it would feel ridiculous and unrealistic. Still, that fourth episode, featuring a lovestruck, happy lesbo vacation and 'I’m gonna be a dad!' didn’t help. The way she reacted to Dina’s pregnancy completely ruined it for me. In the game I could tell she loved Dina even though she reacted negatively to the pregnancy, precisely because her desire for revenge was so strong that it overshadowed love. By the end of the game she literally breaks up with Dina and abandons the kid to continue seeking revenge.

Of course, they’ll try to re-establish her motivation for revenge in the Joel flashbacks episode. But after that, there’s only one episode left in the season, so the next episode had better further develop Ellie’s current descent, ideally in tandem with the flashbacks.

the level design is atrocious, good luck figuring out where to go next without the accessibility tool

I guess being outside of the cesspool that is Anon Babble made you open up about your disability, my fucking condolences but I expected no less from someone shitting on TLoU2 while probably calling himself a "gamer"

every "level" has a different design apart from lets say a bunch of houses next to each other, just like irl thse houses all have a similar layout, in the same way all the larger structures are also laid out exactly like they would be irl, aka a library a museum, a hospital, etc etc, its just common sense the idea of getting lost in a naughtydog game is hilarious, were you very stoned maybe?

I think you're just retarded.

If you're playing the game on grounded then you're usually using tactics like explosives, molotovs, luring enemies into traps, taking hostages, etc. A film accurate version of the game would be like Predator. They're not even trying to make her a psycho in this adaptation.

getting lost in a naughtydog game is hilarious

again, i probably spent less than 1 minute on average to find the exit; it was just annoying every time.

A lot of people point out bellas acting but not the writing. The writing for the whole show is softer, with S2 going softening the 2nd game so much its lost all grit. Ellie in the show doesn't even have a lust for revenge. She's happy and wants to go back when Dina says she's pregnant but dina wants to go on. Now this last episode Dina has a huge peptalk about lusting for revenge to influence Ellie to go for it. What is actually going on? They've strayed so far in such an odd direction.

So I would actually like to see more criticism of the writing and direction of Bella over Bella herself now, there must have been a shitshow behind the scenes, this is writers strike // covid meddling tier production without any of those excuses

I agree she's way too positive especially this ep until she started hunting bald girl. She's way to happy cut it out ffs if you look at ellie during day 2 she has a perpetual scowl even outside of cut scenes

Is it just me or does TV Jesse run weird

anon now be honest do you have trouble finding exits irl? heres a handy tip fr both TLOU and real life, the exit is often past a green sign that says EXIT

I suspect that's intentional to show they both don't seem to understand the depths of the situation they found themselves in

That could be the case. Maybe we should give the writers more credit. In the game they seem very mature for their age and I always thought that's because of the world they have to live in. Let's see what happens in the last 2 episodes.

nope you're right thought the same thing

Ellie turns on the power in the hospital basement when in the game it's Abby that does

ratking confirmed to be cut from the show

Holy shit, the writing is so heavy-handed and "tell don't show". It seems like they were terrified of a potential backlash that they removed all sublety and softened up everyhing and everyone

I think it's just the result of them trying to compress so much of the game into a couple episodes.
Day 1 Ellie and Dina are joking around and having fun. It's not until they captured in the school and almost die that they start taking it more seriously.
The show cut that and most of day 1 so we're going into Day 2 with a Day 1 Ellie/Dina.

the last of us 2 is one of the best third person shooters

like saying its one of the best rough anal exams you've ever had.
it's not deep or clever even on Grounded. stealth gameplay hasn't evolved since the early 2000s.

When I saw the dog in this episode i though to myself "holy shit theyre gonna do it" but then nothing happened. Wtf are they trying to do here? Theyre fine with manipulating the player playing the game, but they wont do the same with Bella Ramsey? Eh?

well said, I think the hanging gutted bodies left by the scars was suppose to be that, but they are still acting like teenagers on a camping trip the next day

stop responding to botposts obviously written before the current episode lol

The first part already did that. Original left it ambiguous about the vaccine but there's a bunch of retcons and additions to nudge the case against Joel.

its gotten a lot smoother though, and their is some clever fun levels like for instance the flooded area where you are ducking in and out of pools slaughtering wlf, great fun

The show is like if the game had all of the edge and grit sanded off and put on training wheels so that it doesn't offend anyone and so that drooling retards can follow along. The Rugrats of Us.

yeah it's called "good writing" lol

having an anti-revenge story with a body count in the 100s never made a lick of sense.

well I'm going to assume that all these kinds of posts are astroturfed game sales attempts from now on.

The game is so much better written it's baffling. The show's best scenes are those ripped straight from the game. Also I can see right through Craig Mazin's signature "look at these characters talking about off-screen events for worldbuilding" scenes, they completely take me out of the show, but I never got why people like Chernobyl so much either, so maybe I'm just missing his genius.

True, but it was still faithfull to the overall structure and plot for the most part. But season 2 is making too many changes, and nearly all of them are for the worst.

What about my post is a botpost you fucking retard?

you could at least have it in the double digits by this point, ellie had one exactly one human kill so far, dina has had one as well, 2 wlfs killed in total, no scars. 1/6 infected, come on show them being psychos, they barely did it for joel, and we haven't gotten it yet for ellie

Was Nora telling Ellie that Abbys dad was the only person able to make a vaccine in the game too? Lmao

the fact that the ending of the current episode consists of Bella beating Nora to death.

Ellie in the show doesn't even have a lust for revenge. She's happy and wants to go back when Dina says she's pregnant but dina wants to go on. Now this last episode Dina has a huge peptalk about lusting for revenge to influence Ellie to go for it. What is actually going on? They've strayed so far in such an odd direction.

it's called "non-autism". the idea is that you write characters as having a range of contrasting emotions and inner conflicts, like they are real people.

in a game you can just have Ellie being dull and stoic because the gameplay itself deflates the tension but in the medium of "adult storytelling" that's both impossible and disasterous if you attempt it.

BTW enjoy the last two episodes and any future seasons. I know that none of your complaints will reflect your actual viewing behavior because you have zero agency.

Abby being mad about Ellie killing all of her friends is barely going to make sense in the context of the show.
She's killed one WLF in cold blood.
Nora basically killed herself.
And if Owen/Mel go down how they do in the game then they basically commit suicide as well by trying to grab Ellie's gun.

Show Ellie vs Game Ellie

Not a chance. It's by far the most signature part of Abby's entire half of the game.

In the game Ellie finds a recording from Mel that says "even if we found her, or by some miracle someone else that's immune, it'd make no difference because the only person who could develop a vaccine is dead"

I don't know why Jerry himself was so important but it's a contrivance that's necessary because in TLOU the cure is dead and buried and it has to be that way for the story to work

every kill Bella gets lessens the effectiveness of the anti-violence message. Druckmann seems not to have fully grasped this but Mazin has. thank god.

if you'd like, have you played the game? none of your criticisms make sense, I can make an actual critisim because I have played the game, dina gets in the way, its really annoying, in the first game when you went into stealth mode ellie was essentially invisible and also by game mechanic couldn't get in the way. In 2 when you have dina with you, she constantly gets in the way and fucks up

I kept expecting a ratking reference when Ellie got to the basement (like a growl or something) but I didn't spot any.

I don't think the show is on Grounded difficulty, with how in ep 2 Tommy and Maria go down to street level and just run straight through the Infected horde, safely, somehow.

hurr you are autistic and those characters in the show are clearly acting logically

Nice one, maybe if you throw a little snide weakass bitch comment on the end too, that's a good little retard

the combination of this show and the associated game is PROOF that halfwits will mistake good acting for good writing.

that wasn't even cold blood if you don't count nora, the other was in a very tense kill or be killed situation, they needed a few more of those

Abby is destined to drop her bloodlust before Ellie so that also helps the story. remember Abby has to let Ellie go again DESPITE Ellie killing her friends.
video games becoming the primary storytelling form of Western cultures really seems to have been a fucking disaster lmao.

How can spending 1 minute to find where to go next be annoying bro? That's literally just playing the game. The developers expect you to at least look around the world and find where to go next. Stop arguing you're making it worse for yourself.

It's almost as if the Jewish nepohack who wrote the Hangover 2 and 3 is a shit writer.

Honestly she was fine in season 1, even charming at some points, but she just cannot pull off an adult role like this looking like a ham sandwich and sounding like a 13 year old.

because i'm a pc player and every game has objectives and/or maps.

its better than the first game so its good

brilliant

I'm talking to you like this because I know there's no argument to be had. you can't even defend your own position, you're just posting kneejerk whines about "show different" in the hope that someone validates you.

thats stupid and self defeating, she needs to be more violent at this point I actually thought they were setting it up with ellie finding the scars ont he road and saying this is what these wlfs do, so you know see them all as complicit for joel and so all of them are monsters and its good to kill any of them any chance you get. Basically she should've killed a couple more wlfs or a scar or two the park scene perfect oppertunity. ONe or two stealth knife kills because if you frame it right its basically a psycho coming out of no-where and cutting your jugular then disappearing, you know joel and ellie are the monsters for anyone they come across you know that thing that central theme you know that one.

That's actually a writing problem in the original game too. They have a dindunuffin excuse for Ellie for literally all of Abby's friends.

Manny - Tommy sniped him

Jordan - Self defense

Nora - Self defense + she was dead anyway

Leah - Killed by scars

Nick - Killed by Tommy

Owen/Mel - Self defense

Vita Girl - Self Defense

In gameplay she has no problem stabbing people in the throat and calling them a motherfucker but in cutscenes she's suddenly forced to do it.

I mean, Ellie's revenge seeking is deeply illogical if you think about it.

redditfrog.jpg - 640x557, 50.44K

you didn't read what I wrote thats not what I said you sperg

If I break into your house and threaten you with a gun, and then kill you when you resist, I don't get to claim self-defense at the trial

Maybe not in court but she had no intention of killing Owen/Mel and we all know it. They're just dumb as fuck.

Nora basically killed herself

How is running from someone shooting at you and then having to choose between getting shot and entering a spore filled area suicide?

Ellie literally tells Dina in the TV station that she holds everyone who was in the room equally responsible for Joel's death and she has no intention of letting any of them live. You are giving Ellie the benefit of the doubt because she's the protagonist and you like her

tell me what I want to know and I'll let you live

instead of doing that, proceeds to mock Ellie and throw shit at her

oh fuck off she was going to murder them the second they talked, or more actually marked the map, she was doing a joel and tommy classic she was 100% going to kill them no matter what.

I don't believe it because the game is constantly giving her excuses to kill them.
If Druckmann really wanted Ellie to be a canonical psychopath then he should've shown that on screen.
i.e. They give her the information and she shoots them in the head

repeating things always make them less impactful in drama. no exceptions. Nora being beaten to death means less if Ellie has already killed a couple of people on the way to her.
you need to understand that Mazin obviously considers this kind of thing (like for the guy with a dog in this episode) and rejects it because he is an award-winning filmmaker not an edgelord like Zack Snyder.

How about a compass and objective markers? Ubisoft games are right up your alley.

They show Joel and Tommy doing exactly that. They never show Ellie doing that because that's not who she is.
Again, if Druckmann really wanted Ellie to be a canonical psychopath then he should've shown that on screen.

holy shit bella just keeps getting worse with every episode
her entire acting range is how much she opens her jaw fuck it's so bad

Ellie knowing about Abby's motives

I don't like that. Ellie having no idea that Abby's motives were personal instead of just the whole cure thing, which fed into her survival's guilt.

Why would Owen and Mel take Ellie at her word? Ellie has left a trail of bodies in her wake. I'm not sure how much Owen and Mel were in the loop about the Jackson Trespassers rampage sequestered in the Aquarium but I wouldn't trust her

that's because the player is the one really committing the mass murder in the game. it's a disconnect that fans of the game completely fail to recognize and you get people like who are really disappointed that show Ellie doesn't behave more like they did when clearing levels.

Dina with only Ellie: strong independent woman

Dina when her baby daddy is near: damsel in distress

Why are bisexual girls like this

its intentional to "leave it ambigious" if ellie really was going to do the entire routine ala joel and tommy or not, so you can choose to believe it was a bluff to make yourself feel better about ellie you go right ahead. But no you're wrong she was absolutely 100% going to murder them the second she got the info, and if the game gave me an option I would fucking murder them too.

tlou2 actually does have objective markers, it's just hidden in the accessibility options.
objective markers and maps have been the default for games for like 20 years, because players do get lost even in linear games, and proper level designing is very fucking expensive.

I think its great. protagonists having the same information as the audience reduces the amount of narrative contrivance.

She was clearly shook by torturing Nora.
There is 0 chance she could kill Mel and Owen in cold blood.

nora.png - 1200x575, 374.94K

what if you chase the down the street with a rifle

The game will by default just tell you where to go if you linger in an area too long, it's happened to me while scavenging in some of the larger combat arenas after wiping all enemies

Yeah, it does happen for some areas, your character will comment or your companion will start going there. That's the cheap alternative to proper level design.

Yeah it tells you to click L3 and it'll zoom the camera over.
If it's a puzzle they'll even say outloud "I should move this garbage can in front of the ledge with the yellow tape"
Anon is just trolling

bella saw what y'all incels have been posting and now she's coming for you

oi mate.png - 511x487, 219.34K

I'm not (really disappointed) you insufferable douche, I'm saying ellie is too carefree and acting like a teenager, her killing people which can be framed as self defense like the one kill she had but a couple more and then later you see it from the other side works very well, by not having that it makes ellie suddenly appearing in the hospital room like arya fucking stark, it makes it cartoonish. I don't need to see her getting their if I've seen her actually being stealthy and ruthless leading up to this

it was ambiguous but no actually the thing I've decided is what would have happened

Part 2 is not well-written and one consequence of that is large numbers of people refusing to accept the obvious intention of various scenes.

but hey we'll see what Mazin does with it, I have a feeling he's going to be more careful to protect both Ellie and Abby because them breaking the cycle of violence is ultimately the point.

I d-didn't mean it.
You're a great actress!
I loved you in game of thrones!

It's hard not to interpret the changes as directors lack of confidence in the cast or lack of respect for audiences intelligence. It's a visual medium for fucks sakes, show - don't tellm. Ellie never answers Noras statements about Joels misdeeds - she doesnt care BUT IT DOESNT NEED TO BE FUCKING SAID. SHOW IT.

Part 2 is not well-written and one consequence of that is large numbers of people refusing to accept the obvious intention of various scenes.

Some people will draw whatever conclusions they want, how many people insist that Abby's dad was murdering scores of other immune children before Ellie and refuse to even entertain a cure being possible because they can't emotionally navigate moral complexity?

tell me what I want to know and I'll let you live

I *might* let you live. Plus she has no reason to believe her, hell, doesn't Ellie scream that she'll kill them all during Joel's death? Plus from Nora's PoV Joel was just some guy who murdered their friends, including the father of the girl she's asked to betray

that was adrenaline, makes you shake, but you believe what you want.

brother shes literally glassy eyed until dina hugs her

I'll let you live so you can scream and alert everybody of the intruder 20 seconds after I leave the room

So you don't think that she has PTSD from killing Nora?
Why is she crying and clearly traumatized in the cutscene after then?

youtu.be/JVah2QrYBuw

I do not believe you're serious anon.

it makes it cartoonish

I disagree. main characters doing flawless Ninja infiltrations into the enemy base is the most cartoonish hacky shit ever. leaving that all offscreen makes perfect sense to me.

too carefree and acting like a teenager

its intentional. she is a teenager and her character is only interesting to the extent that murderhobo Ellie exists in tension with Dadjoke Ellie. you don't have to like it but its been done on purpose because Mazin is a better writer. and also an Ivy-league educated psychologist.

you are in denial they were dead the moment she saw them, is your argument really

well ellie was shook because she beat nora to death so she wasn't going to kill mel and own the second she got the info she needed

then that is the stance you choose to take, you are imo retarded, but each to their own.

No! I’m not going to tell you where your father’s killer is! I’m a loyal friend and won’t put her at risk!

here let me unseal the basement full of spores and put at risk the whole hospital

Obviously you'd gag her and tie her up.
Unless you think she's going to die noiselessly lol.

and how do you plan to tie her up with one hand while holding the gun with the other?

He is serious, he just has trouble telling people's emotions which is why he shits on TLoU2. What I want to know is whether those people do it out of some frustration that others are able to enjoy a game they themselves cannot. Otherwise why would they care? There's plenty of media that I don't get but I certainly don't show up where people discuss it and start exaggerating reasons why they shouldn't

Season 2 sucks so much that is making more people appreciate Part II's writing

Was this Cuckmann's plan all along?

i make her tie herself up
checkmate neil cuckman

I think TLOU2 is written heavy handed enough that if Neil wanted us to think she was a complete monster then he would've shown it on screen. The fact that he made it ambiguous is him saying that she wouldn't have done it any other way.

I said actually showing her getting from under the building to the room doesn't need to be shown, however showing her doing similar things leading up to that would've made sense and they had opportunities to do it this is hbo the episode can run 120min or 45 mins or anywhere inbetween, so when ellie magically appears in the room you don't question it, because you've seen her do shit before. stop blindly defending mazin, ffs

yes I will be perfectly rational while being chased and shot at in to a dead end!

You can tell she's fuming with rage and desire for revenge because her mouth is open. Her face is red too. Extraordinary.

But that's not revealed until Abby 's part starts.

I haven't shit on tlou2 at all except for the bits where i am with dina day 2 and she keeps getting in the way and blowing stealth. You are very confused

Part 2 does literally put you through dozens of levels where shooting someone makes the other NPCs go "noooo Darryl!"
it's like a case study in why games are bad at (or shouldn't attempt) some forms of storytelling.
all of which you'd think would have translated into a warmer reception for the show. but no.

Yeah fair enough, I might've lost myself in the conversation

They're speedrunning Ellie's story in like 4 episodes but season 3 is going to be entirely Abby's story.

fair enough man

good. maybe s3 will be watchable with bella not in it

I can suspend a certain amount of disbelief with tv shows in the modern day but these two girls are so spectacularly Ill-equipped to be making this journey let alone infiltrating paramilitary encampments it’s out of sight. They flail guns around with one hand, don’t monitor their ammo, make no serious attempt to survey surroundings and go to absolute pieces at the slightest altercation. If it were hunger games tier fiction aimed at teenagers I could forgive it but it’s meant to be adult drama and it’s preposterous. Ellie firing off 9mm rounds without looking with one hand TWICE finally broke me.

Abbys story is going to be like 2 episodes anon, season 3 will be 6 episodes

But only for the player. Ellie never learns what truly motivated Abby.

Why is that bad, though? What is your objection?

Ok but what if Ellie was spider-woman

IMG_2834.jpg - 828x588, 375.26K

Oh right.

They already announced TLOU2 would likely continue into season 4 meaning the Santa Barbara sections won't be in season 3.

what about batman? that "where is she" and her look of calm calculating violence really sold me on bruce wayne as her next big role

Overall though Moner is the best actor here, mogs everyone

make a show so shit the game looks better in comparison

This was cuckmans plan all along, huh

yea no, ellie chose to throw them into the pit knowing about the spores thats why the wlf said they were trapped, they didn't expect ellie to throw them both down there. She did knowing it would infect and kill nora, then you chase her then you beat her to death, then sure lets cry about it. Then you encounter Owen and Mel and she goes straight into her families favorite form of interrogation, I mean Idk how you can convince yourself that she would ever leave them alive.

you're underestimating how incredibly vulnerable narrative art is to getting repetitive. John Wick is a shit franchise because of the "why not have him kill more people" mindset.

yeah I'm saying I'm glad it was changed because the game's writing is really quite bad.

Jeffrey Wright is the best actor

ellie chose to throw them into the pit knowing about the spores

It was that or die to gunfire by the WLF guards. What did you want Ellie to do?

all the regulars yes, jesse's delivery was fucking awful this episode, he was fine before
yes he is objectively the best actor thats appeared on the show

Can't wait to see Ellie lose everything and be depressed forever. Gonna be kino.

Funny how he gets to play the same character in both game and series. Wonder how often that happens

so just have her arya stark her way into the room then? bravo mazin bravo.

it makes the violence comedic when its trying to be serious. I'm playing a videogame I'm not going to cry because mario jumped on a Goomba's head. emotional impact requires careful control of context.

there's an old comedy trope that if something tragic happens once its tragic, twice its going to leave the audience silent, the third time it will make them laugh. anyway Neil doesn't seem to have heard about it. but to read about TLOU2 here now, you'd think it was as well-received as Half-life 2.

the actress who played mariah in the show also played her in the game

*Marlene

True, even if that pan scene was kinda awkward

if she was Arya Stark she'd have teleported from Jackson directly to Nora's spawnpoint. Dina literally tells her where in the hospital Nora is near the start of the episode.

A Troy Baker Joel would've been interesting.
He just needs to bulk up.

Merle Dandridge reprised her role as Marlene in season 1, I think her and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac are the only cases of that happening. Most of the game actors look nothing like their character and aren't even of a similar age

she didn't have to throw nora in as well, in fact if she had pushed nora towards the others and then jumped in they probably wouldn't follow you, but its not an rpg you don't get to pick what happens, and what happens is ellie drags nora into the basement knowing full well that
A: it will kill her
and
B: the others will probably try and rescue her or avenge her
it was cold blooded af

yeah marlene my bad

the circumstances that lead to Joel’s death didn’t make sense

the game trying to make you sympathize with Abby through manipulation while trying to make Ellie look bad

the woke propaganda

the shitty “revenge is bad” ending

Is that it for the reasons why the second game sucked?

yeah if only they had long range weapons that they could shoot into the hole with

dude they could have not killed Joel this season! or at all! I'm going to go write a negative imdb review pointing that out right now! I don't value my own time!

ep so boring literally no one is talking about the events of it in this thread

Grim

It was a pretty shit episode ngl
especially when the part of the game they're adapting is one of the best parts

Though it's weird to me how they spent a bunch of time on Isaac here in this Ellie-focused season, without showing any members of Abby's group interact with him. Guess he gave some new insight on the WLF-Seraphite conflict but otherwise he's very isolated and detached from everything else going on. His scenes could have been delayed and included in a season 3 episode instead and it would make little to no difference

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I find TLOU2 such an engaging experience because I don't enjoy any of the violence. Realistic AI of the enemies and the way they scream and cry out for each other as their friends die sickens me, but because I play on grounded if I don't kill them, they'll kill me.

you'd think it was as well-received as Half-life 2

It was, right wing culture warriors and manbabies whining about gamer dad dying were a vocal minority.

I know my entire point going back to the beginning of this discussion is have her be more stealthy, a bit more eager to kill and a bit more confident, then she shows up in the breakout room and you don't question it.

Who the fuck is responsible for this wreck? It somehow has worse acting and lazier writing than a Sony moviegame which is impressive and embarrassing in equal amounts.

Oh yeah. I didn't catch that initially, I guess JW has a more iconic voice

True but he's a veteran, Moner is impressing among the younger cast which make up the majority of the show.

if only they had the means to summon all the zombies in the exposed spore infested basement, yes lets blast away into this next level of hell.

idiot

That's because she was on level B2 anon

The Asian chick told us B1 is empty

The ratking is on B3

Listen to the official podcast, they alluded to the rat king probably 5 times in the most recent episode

why is that funny?

Abby's character design being an attempt to rationalize her combat style of punching cordyceps to death (which is hilarious).
side characters ending up with their own fanbase because they beat up the characters we were supposed to sympathize with.
the hilarious sex scene that uses doggystyle for no reason (camera angles?) thereby creating a false pre-release rumour that Abby was trans.
Ellie hearing where Abby is on the radio and teleporting to Santa Barbara for the final battle.
stupid inconclusive ending where Abby and Lev may as well have been left to die after being released mostly starved in a tiny boat while Ellie uses her main character powers to teleport home.

its basically a list of self-inflicted injuries.

If you cut those scenes, the WLF would basically have 0 presence in the show.
A small group showed up at the tv station and they had a couple guards at the hospital.
If I didn't know the game they're adapting, I would assume they're a tiny ass group consisting of Isaac and Abby's friends.

stalkers were lame and didn't get to do any stalking
ellie was flailing around like a retard that whole sequence too and her sacrifice herself plan was retarded
wasted time on pointless shit and teleported ellie into the hospital instead of cool tactical stealth espionage
some poor set artists spent like 500 hours making that mushroom hallway and it looked like shit
seraphites were cool i guess but dina getting arrowed was weird and shit looking

Listen to the official podcast

Unironic shill post

But they showed a full battalion in the third episode.

you're right wing if you don't like this

lol

Last time I checked they follow Ellie into the basement and start blasting.

Sucks for you that you couldn't get into it, game's something else if you try to try to get past enemies without killing them (especially once you get the full story) but they're so good at covering group, it's almost inevitable a fight will break out and you'll have to kill most or all of them. There's other nuances like Abby's "boss fight" to get her backpack having mirrored death scenes.

Of course, if you decide from the start the game's shit, you won't get to enjoy any of it

and you don't question it.

I haven't seen anyone except you questioning it.
more interactions would make her getting in undetected harder to believe for most people.

Still haven’t played the game. I thought Abby was trans?

I'm right-wing and i liked Part II.

I hope Jesse's death happens with the same disregard as the game. He dies like a random enemy NPC and it's kino. Same for the Seraphite girl in Abby's section. Even Joel's death feels quicker and more brutal in the game.

we've been arguing about nora for hours now

I guess so but you don't feel it at all. Ellie and Dina have been able to wander most of Seattle unobstructed so far and they're walking down main streets.
In the game you would encounter squads of WLF patrolling quite often.

Abby is a biological straight female. Her being trans was bullshit repeated by right wing grifters to prey on the insecurities of gamers

Well yeah, they know who everyone's waiting for and want to drag it out as long as possible to keep them hooked.

fat geralt.webm - 900x506, 1.15M

He's ugly with crooked teeth plus he can't act with his face. Have you seen him try? It's cringy.

after getting gasmasks on, and as I said its because ellie dragged nora in with her, if you hadn't done that they probably wouldn't held off and you could run away through that gate. But Ellie chooses to drag nora in with her. tldr, ellie wants revenge and wants to kill all of the ones in the room, all of them.

the leaks confused people into thinking abby is a tranner even though it's lev. the confusion persists to this day

Sucks for you that you couldn't get into it

no it doesn't :)

if you decide from the start the game's shit

the story is hilariously mishandled to the point that it becomes a late-season Game Of Thrones-like experience. the gameplay is just regular stealth shooter gameplay.
it's not a big deal either way. I'm glad the show is improving on what Neil was able to put out, sad that no one online seems to be able to recognize how much better it is.

the shitty “revenge is bad” ending

Do you remember what precedes that ending? I'll remind you as you must've forgotten, probably because it's been years since you last played the game you talk about: it's the sound of slaves breaking out Rattlers' basement and overrunning/killing them all. Hell, even before that you can find a note where another woman taunts the Rattlers that she broke out after they murdered her husband and will come back with help to kill them all.

Do you, you literal inbred retard, still believe the message of this game can be dumbed down to "revenge is bad"?

Then you’re retarded

Unironic pathetic schizo

no it doesn't :)

Well then don't let me stop you from coming back to those threads seething, surely you're a model, well adjusted individual

Based

She at the very least is trans coded, this might have been changed last minute because of pushback from anons/ people who actually want to make money back on their 200 million dollar game

The buttsex didn't help

why are there no infected on the seraphite island?
why do seraphites even go to seattle when they grow their own crops and shit?

Ok, so don't listen to the podcast and hear two Jews tiptoe around mentioning the best part of the longest worst storyline in the game lmao

The only redeeming parts of the Abby story are the hotel and the hospital basement

And when Manny gets shot

Do you really think he played the game?

its arya just appearing in rooms all over again, just stop already, it was a bad choice

I'm enjoying the show. this is a Anon Babble board and I am in the right place surrounded by immigrants from Anon Babble constantly whining about the adaptation.

How do they contribute to the “revenge is good” argument you think the game is making? The game doesn’t treat their liberation as some big freeing move, it’s just what Ellie does to get closer to Abby. And after killing so many people, and close to drowning Abby to death, she suddenly thinks “muh cycle of violence, revenge is bad”. That’s main in-your-fucking-face issue that you can’t grasp

it's literally just because they wanted a different fighting style to Ellie. a stupider fighting style.

Still beats discussing the show with the NPCs over at r*ddit

Then why not make Abby a guy

trans coded

This wasn't the intent and it would be redundant when the game also includes another character who is straight up trans and talks about their experience with being that way.
(and Abby carefully tiptoes around the matter of Lev being trans because it's completely foreign to her).

Abby's physique represents her motivation to become stronger and deadlier so that she could eventually go and kill Joel.
And it's not buttsex.

Reddit is like the WLF
Anon Babble is like the Scars

they probably cleared the island or maybe the earthquake (or whatever) which sank that half of seattle fucked the whole area up and the infected died or left before the seraphites moved there

And it's not buttsex.

proof required. they don't actually show anything afaik and some women do actually enjoy anal.
bots everywhere

ummmmm sexist much?

Of course not, I'm mocking him for speaking with such dismissive authority about something he hasn't even experienced himself. Well, this is the internet, people are fucking shameless here

How do they contribute to the “revenge is good” argument you think the game is making?

And here is your problem: you can only think in extremes, the game must either say "revenge is good" or "revenge is bad". For you there's no nuance, no exploration of a theme, no character arcs because you don't notice any of it. No wonder you think so little of the game

The lost redditors here are very amusing, you can see in how they post, as if they're expecting some updoots to do the work of arguing while they just condescend and call you dumb

How do they contribute to the “revenge is good” argument you think the game is making?

Can you only think in binary? For all we know Ellie instantly regretted letting Abby go as soon as she left. Who the fuck knows. She was clearly tormented and a lot of factors influenced her decision to let Abby go in that moment.

I'm enjoying the show.

I bet you do you good little Goyium

IMG_2836.png - 1080x940, 1.2M

probably to doge the issue of man on woman violence, remeber around this time xmen got massive shit for having posters of apocalypse chocking mystique. So I guess being a complete faggot and all drukmann thought ok how about a bodybuilder girl? cause girls can be just as strong as guys right? and so abby instead of idk Arron or something

For all we know Ellie instantly regretted letting Abby go as soon as she left. Who the fuck knows.

not him but that's always a sign of good writing.

what did Frodo feel after setting off on the Ring quest dad?

Who the fuck knows, son. how many orcs did you kill on level 6?

The only Last of Us Part 2 I'm interested in is the sequel to this moment.

Because Abby is intentionally plain looking to make it harder for players to emphasise with her. Because her being a girl and going to extremes to get stronger shows how far she's willing to go to avenge her father. Because Ellie's also a girl which gives her a connection to Abby, the last two showing that the characters who are on opposite ends have some things in common, even though they have many things separating them (Ellie's more easy-going and loves puns, Abby is no-nonsense. Ellie would love to be an Astronaut, Abby has vertigo etc.)

Imagine being Duckmann...

she suddenly thinks “muh cycle of violence, revenge is bad”

It's not that revenge is necessarily bad, it's that in that moment she has won and gotten her revenge, for most intents and purposes, yet she still feels terrible and her PTSD hasn't gone away and it isn't fixing/solving anything.
Plus it would be unjust to condemn Lev to death or risk whatever he might do in the future without Abby

And here is your problem: you can only think in extremes, the game must either say "revenge is good" or "revenge is bad". For you there's no nuance, no exploration of a theme, no character arcs because you don't notice any of it. No wonder you think so little of the game
Except it’s pretty clear the game is trying to say “cycle of violence is bad”, as Ellie killing Abby’s friend is portrayed in an extremely negative light, while the game also tries to make Abby look better through cheap manipulation tactics (the zebra shit, caring about some tranny kid) with the exception being like when she was about to kill Dina even if she was pregnant. And at the same time, Abby has no point where she reflects in her actions, and how killing Joel indirectly led to the death of her friends (no accountability). How can you do character arcs and exploration of themes if you don’t actually commit to exploring them?
Yeh, nonsensical factors that are completely random and feel completely arbitrary. You’re essentially saying it’s fine that Ellie just made random decisions that she might instantly regret because fuck character consistency

spend the whole game going for revenge

don’t do it

still get punished for it

IMG_2739.jpg - 333x500, 88.58K

no

It's not that revenge is necessarily bad, it's that in that moment she has won and gotten her revenge

Except she literally didn’t, Abby is still alive at the end, so she doesn’t get her revenge while still being punished. What the fuck

they live with the survivor, the bearded man

JOEL?

it must be "revenge is bad" or "revenge is good"!

Maybe the problem is you?

Abby was clearly frail, beaten down, and had suffered a lot, not to mention she was protecting a kid. Is it really that hard to believe Ellie felt bad about killing her in that situation? Even if it was just because she didn't want to leave that kid alone?
And that’s before even considering Ellie's mental state by that point. Did the flashback to Joel realizing she had forgiven him really not make things clear enough for you?
On top of that, Abby had spared Ellie's life multiple times by then. Funny how nobody ever seems to have a problem with that.

Because her being a girl and going to extremes to get stronger

How did she get stronger? There’s no way shes getting enough protein to get that big, it looks like shes on steroids

"Trans coded" doesn't mean anything. There was no last minute change. Abby has always been a girl.

yea pretty much, except I didn't mind the mushroom hallway

In the game, Abby being starved and weak meant Ellie could actually fight her one on one, but in the show the actresses are the same size, so a starved Kaitlyn Dever would be just feeble and unable to fight Ellie. So that's going to have to be changed.

This is brutal.

she literally gets a starving Abby to fight her by threatening to cut Lev's throat. they're almost definitely going to have to change it.

God I love how shit TLOU2 is, god bless you druckmann and your refusal to accept your story was shit

bigshot.jpg - 900x600, 42.41K

I can't even hate Kojima. He's such a goofy looking bastard, like a Tokio Kid poster brought to life.

the writing is bad because it doesn't convey the inner states of its characters very effectively, logically, or consistently, in a way that serves the story's desired themes.

for sparing Abby to work as an ending we should *want* Ellie to spare Abby. but the more typical reaction was Mazin will probably be able to fix some of this.

I don't believe that a fully healthy Kaitlyn Dever could beat Bella Ramsay in real life. Bella clearly has far greater access to her suppressed murderous rage. Bella could probably beat Kaitlyn to death using Caillee Spaeney's corpse.

the writing is bad because it doesn't convey the inner states of its characters very effectively, logically, or consistently, in a way that serves the story's desired themes.

It does and it's very in your face about it. If anything Mazin will make it more subtle.

Gamers are immature, cynical, and angry people, the empathy check TLOU2 asks of its audience is going to be refused out of hand even if Abby was a saint

You are also taking the right wing Anon Babble circle jerk as a representative sample. Plenty of people like Abby.

This thread pretty much spoils the show to anyone who hasn't played the game lmao

Is it really that hard to believe Ellie felt bad about killing her in that situation?

Yes. Considering her characterization before, she should have left Abby on the cross

YOU JUST LACK EMPATHY CHUD YOU HAVE TO LIKE THE TRANS BITCH

No

Plenty of people like Abby

If I had to pick between Ellie or Abby to hang out with I'd probably pick Abby.

it’s good because I say it is

No him but fuck you’re dumb

Tbh I'd pick Owen or Manny.
They seem like bros.

Ellie is clearly doubting herself, there's a part of her that knows this is fucked so she's trying to force a situation where Abby is able to defend herself so Ellie can rationalize it all as justified self defense

Keep in mind the Santa Barbara chapter takes place almost two years after Seattle, at that point Ellie is past simply avenging Joel, she's desperate for the nightmares to stop. She had to be guilted into going by Tommy and she was very close to letting Abby go without a fight until she had another PTSD flashback

NEXT

Ok

for sparing Abby to work as an ending we should *want* Ellie to spare Abby

you're meant to start feeling that after tommy tries to get ellie to go to santa barbara and you can see what a bitter destroyed (physically and his relationships) man he's turned into because of vengeance

See, spores aren't gonna be in the show because it's not realistic or whatever

Whoops, we actually need them for an important story beat, Spores are back on!

Man fuck this show.

What do you think this is, a safe spoiler free reddit post?

Owen and Jesse are by far the best people in both games.

Tfw you will never get drunk with Manny, watch Princess Mononoke with him or have him wingman for you at the WLF bar

I want to hang out with Owen and drink beer on the aquarium dock

So is the show showing Abby's retarded friends plot yet?

friendship simulators a shit

the game is trying to say “cycle of violence is bad”

What the game DOES is have you play as two characters acting like they're in the right to do something and then having to deal with the consequences of their actions, even though they had more than reasonable reasons. "Cycle of violence is bad" is you jumping to the very end of a story without having experienced the entirety of it

as Ellie killing Abby’s friend is portrayed in an extremely negative light

Same for Abby's killing of Joel. See below

while the game also tries to make Abby look better through cheap manipulation tactics

Abby has no point where she reflects in her actions, and how killing Joel indirectly led to the death of her friends (no accountability)

First of all, the game doesn't have to do "cheap manipulation tactics" (your words, sorry you feel that way) when there are strong arguments that she has a right for revenge (Joel not only killed her father and her friends, he also undermined the existence of Fireflies and destroyed a vaccine that could've saved people. This is examined during the flashbacks between Ellie and Joel as they all end on a sour note of Ellie getting closer and closer to the truth about her stay during the hospital). If the game started with Abby, if people haven't played as Joel in the first game, the perception of her actions would've been strikingly different. Hell, it probably would've been a pretty good game in its own right, where you start off with your character torturing someone to death leaving you wondering "what the hell did that guy do to me", only for you to play as another trying to avenge him

Secondly, while the Zebra shit was a little on the nose, it served its purpose and it wasn't that unrealistic (and parallels nicely with the giraffe scene in 1). Lev, on the other hand, ties in in a much greater capacity, on many levels and helps Abby come to terms with getting over her revenge

I have a few words to add but I'm running out of space

TLoU's Cordyceps came from somewhere in the jungle in South America before jumping to humans

Real Cordyceps always spreads among arthropods via spores

After jumping to humans, it somehow forgets how to make spores for 20+ years, even though being able to spread through the air is a highly advantageous trait for a pathogen

And then it suddenly remembers how to make spores again

Yeah this is retarded.

There's three basement sublevels, we only saw to the second one, the third has been completely sealed. Presumably Abby will have to go down there and run into the rat king. They even mention the very first cordyceps patients in Seattle were brought there, which is leading to how the rat king formed in the first place, the infected forced into a tiny room and sealed for many years, leading to them all fusing together.

there is no justification for abby going after joel after her father and friends kidnapped a child and attempted to turn her into a test tube with no consent

yeah this is the worst part. making dumb alterations for the adaptation then realizing later they're actually needed shows the writers didn't think any of this shit through

From the same geniuses who thought you could vaccinate against a fungal infection.

the infected forced into a tiny room and sealed for many years

magically not dying of hunger

i long ago stopped applying logic to my video games. there's a rat boss down there because naughty dog thought it'd be cool.

Apparently they're stretching part 2 to 3 seasons, believe it or not. That's why Mazin keeps teasing that we will learn more about the WLF and Seraphites. They're already expanding on Isaac.

well its plants and roots and shit ain't it?

There were also those bank robbers who were sealed in a vault for 30 years or however long it had been since the apocalypse hit.

Yep this stood out to me too.
And the writers literally explained before that they didn't have Joel perform Future Days on ep 1 because shifting the outbreak to 2003 erased the song from the game's universe... and yet somehow Ellie knows and starts playing it.
They are sloppily inconsistent and forgetful about their own content that they just produced

*show's universe

So is Shimmer not gonna get blown to bits in this version? I haven't watched the latest episode yet but i don't remember him still being alive when they reached the theater in the game.

if they can feed on soil, why are they hunting the very dangerous humans?

You theoretically can, fungus vaccines are a real field of R&D.
You just can't know for sure if such a vaccine would work before creating and testing it, same as a vax for anything else.

its a good idea. Ellie herself doesn't actually do very much once you take out the player-controlled pew pew sections.

if they're going to have a full war between the WLF and the Seraphites with a resolution they need to develop both sides properly. the reason the Seraphites are able to function effectively needs to be developed. Abby needs to already be obviously redeeming herself and be a full protagonist by the time she's become Lev's mommy etc.

shimmer staved to death trapped in a garage, while she tried to survive on the last bit of rain and a few strands of grass, shimmer died smashing against the locked door of the garage it had been abandoned in, Shimmers last thought as the infected ripped though the flimsy tin door was
"fuck those selfish cunts, they could've at least let me out..."

she was rescued by the cast of MLP and now lives in Ponyville.

p2.

The overall tone of your post makes me suspect you favour Ellie's motivation over that of Abby, even though it's Abby who suffered the first blow at Joel's hands. "Accountability" is a poor word to use in this situation, this is a post-apoc setting: even the first game has multiple mentions how Joel initially wasn't that different from the raiders you kill throughout the game and it's through Ellie that he becomes a better person and gets over his daughter's death.. and this is the exact journey Abby embarks on after taking care of Lev. There are more parallels but that's probably the biggest one and it's almost on the nose when you look at the "fake ending" during Abby's last sequence

How can you do character arcs and exploration of themes if you don’t actually commit to exploring them?

Did you even play the game? I'll admit, it's very easy to find reasons to dislike it (it has made decisions that don't sit well with me) but you can't seriously ask me that question without having played it and if you didn't... why are talking with such disdain about it?

Thanks for skimming over my text and chiming in with your big take that clearly wasn't repeated a thousand times already by people who don't understand either game

That's a simple break from reality you have to accept for TLOU, or any zombie media really, to happen; the infected or undead can just go perpetually forever because they can. Cordyceps did it.

humans are the only things they can infect to continue the species its explained epsiode one season 1 first scene far better then the game, the fungi evolves to take over humans, not animals only humans, it has one purpose, to propagate, if attacked or threatened it attacks but what it wants is to infect.

revenge for all the mushroom people slaughtered by Mario. the cycle of revenge is unending.

Who wants to see a cat and mouse game go on for another season or 2? The momentum is just dead at that point, we already know how it ends

That's a simple break from reality

yeah i know, but it's the type of thing i can't stop myself from thinking, for example we don't drink water for fun, without it our bodies literally can't function.

See? You even had to make up a reason to dislike her

Sorry about that. I still urge people to play the game, there are only a handfuls that go to the lengths it does and thankfully, it being a game means you still get to experience most of what you can get instead of just being a passive viewer

humans are the only things they can infect to continue the species

then why are there shroom growths and spores everywhere?

we already know how it ends

Most people watching don't.

the show is about the characters and the psychology of trauma, not escalating tension over who is going to get pwnt.

Shimmer was blipped out of existence because having a horse get blown up would probably be viewed by most audiences as unnecessary gruesome imagery that does nothing to drive the story forward.
It also might have been a bit less plausible, in live action, to have Ellie and Dina be completely fine while the horse under them is blown up by a mine

thanos-snap.gif - 498x211, 970.21K

to infect more humans obviously, its fungi, it doesn't really have a plan just a purpose, to propagate

It doesn't infect and control other animals but it can grow and persist by sucking up water and nutrients from its environment as other fungi generally do.

They let Shimmer run wild and free, because as the old saying goes, let your horses run wild and free

They should have a scene of Ellie killing a WLF dog so the audience starts hating her. I love killing dogs in the game maybe because I hate dogs.

Well i'll tell you know without spoiling any details, the events of this story do not justify 3 seasons

she was trapped in an dilapidated building, it was much worse then the game that was quick what happened to the poor horse when those to thoughtless cunts abandoned her, well...even hbo wouldn't show that.

calm down chang

There's no way it lives up to the game right? The buildup there was incredible, descending down to the deepest part of the basement, seeing the mysterious sealed door, then all the ground zero patient areas from the original outbreak, reading they dumped all the remaining patients in the sealed room...which is now open with blood trails leading out. And it's still a couple minutes before the big face to face reveal and chase.

It's all totally in a vacuum because it ultimately has nothing to do with the rest of the game or story, but sometimes that's just fine. You have a cool setpiece idea and you execute it.

Most of the "Abby campaign" stuff in the game isn't cat and mouse, rather it's kind of nonsensical filler following characters that they did a poor job of making us care about. So I hope season 3 heavily changes, replaces and improves on a lot of it.
Like don't spend hours on a quest for surgical tools for Yara's arm when she's just gonna die almost immediately anyway

Funny you mention that...

What the game DOES is have you play as two characters acting like they're in the right to do something and then having to deal with the consequences of their actions,

I like how you still just ignore how biased the game is in showing these two different sides. Again, abby's reasoing and characterization is shallow to manipulate the character into sympathizing with her, I'm just repeating myself at this point

same for abby's killing of joel

accept, again, abby doesn't reflect on her decision to kill him and how that affects her and her friends. Plus, Joel was much more justified in killing Abby's dad with the context the player knows, so acting like this is equal is retarded.

could of destroyed a vaccine that saved people

yeah, because all those past subjects that were immune totally didn't get killed in the process, and lead to absolutely nothing in terms of a cure, ellie was totally going to be different

The overall tone of your post makes me suspect you favour Ellie's motivation over that of Abby, even though it's Abby who suffered the first blow at Joel's hands. "Accountability" is a poor word to use in this situation

actually caring about word definitions

ultimate midwit take

journey abby emabraks on after taking care of lev

like at the last third of the game? Where before you were subjected to shallow reasons to like her?

did you even play the game

that isn't an actual rebutall to anything, you're just making assumptions

Useless biological noise machines. That's what dogs are.

It occurs to me the Seraphites don't even have a "face" character in the game. The prophet has been dead for years and there's no apparent leader character that I can remember. The only one I recall being named is only in one cutscene before getting killed. After that it's just generic Seraphites. That's something the show probably will and probably ought to rectify.

The show could theoretically improve upon or make a little more sense of the Rat King in at least one way- they have the tendrils thing which allows Infected to act more like a coordinated hivemind. So maybe all those fused bodies will be functioning more like a single entity.
Whereas in the game it's basically just a Bloater with a bunch more uncoordinated bodies somehow piled on top of it against their will

and thats why you bugs have no soul

if people haven't played as Joel in the first game, the perception of her actions would've been strikingly different. Hell, it probably would've been a pretty good game in its own right, where you start off with your character torturing someone to death leaving you wondering "what the hell did that guy do to me", only for you to play as another trying to avenge him

the problem is that you know the fireflies were bullshit since the first game, so Joel was completely justified in saving Ellie and just having Humanity build itself up from anew (hell, most of the time humans are killing other humans, not zombies). And just to repeat myself since you're s fucking dense. the ending and decisions both characters make lead to nothing

They do a reasonably good job of making Ellie into a nutty killer in the ending of the episode. One time when Ramsey's weird face is a benefit rather than a hinderance. However, it seems to not really gel with how she is the REST of the episode and the previous episode where she's rather cheerful and seemingly ready to give up and go home if Dina wants to.

Realistically, they shouldn't have made the firefiles the reason Abby fought back, Joel was a raider, could have easily tied it back to that

exactly what I've been saying its too quick of a turn around into rage mode, a little bit more build up would've been better

You're repeating yourself because you're, apparently, physically unable to accept Abby had more valid reasons to go after Joel than Ellie had to go after Abby

abby doesn't reflect on her decision to kill him and how that affects her and her friends

For her Joel is the guy who murdered her father, friend, purpose to live in a fucked-up world... can you think of a way that would make her see him in a different light? A way that you yourself entertain even for a moment if someone you care about was murdered?

yeah, because all those past subjects that were immune totally didn't get killed in the process

I'm sorry but this is no longer a matter of opinions, you're repeating factually wrong information. I have played both games multiple times, even in the OG release there is no mention of other IMMUNE people. Ellie is, for all intents and purposes, the only one and she's presented as such. The operation having a chance to succeed highlights Joel's selfishness but also his dedication to Ellie

ultimate midwit take

I'd be careful when speaking about people's intelligence, especially if you misuse words

that isn't an actual rebutall to anything, you're just making assumptions

I just cannot believe someone would actually type that out if they actually played the game. It's just absurd to write what you wrote when all of it is dedicated to exploring themes and showing character growth (or regression, depending on how you see it).

the problem is that you know the fireflies were bullshit since the first game

No you don't, in the first game it's ambiguous but there's no definitive proof it wouldn't work - for multiple reasons

I'm not chinese, and I'm not bothered by the genocide of cattle, pigs and chicken either, and I'm glad it's happening because I get to eat meat for relatively cheap.
I don't value a dog's life over a cow's just because the dog waggles his tail, that's just a survival strategy.

can you think of a way that would make her see him in a different light?

Holy retard, I'm talking about how her killing joel lead to the death of her friends, how she played a part in that. You're so fucking dumb you can't even understand that

ah a sociopath, got it

I'm sorry but this is no longer a matter of opinions, you're repeating factually wrong information. he fell for the retcon the second game pulled turning the fireflies from a terrorist group into the good guys

grim, you guys fall for anything

the fireflies were bullshit since the first game, so Joel was completely justified in saving Ellie

This wasn't the intent of either game. A lot of the dramatic story beats require the vaccine to have been guaranteed if they did the surgery.
Yes you can come up with a bunch of reasons why it wouldn't have worked, but if you can accept an impossible fungus pandemic that turns people into bat-zombies, then you can also accept that Firefly science would have been successful if Joel hadn't shot everyone.

A lot of the dramatic story beats require the vaccine to have been guaranteed if they did the surgery.

Not really, it was more interesting when it was a chance for survival rather than guaranteed because a lot of the nuance is removed and it just makes joel unquestionably bad rather than the morally grey justification for potentially ending humanity

And you still can't take a step back to realise it all began with Joel, not Abby. Joel didn't care what breaking Ellie out would lead to and we got an entire game to see what it did

grim, you've been brain rotten by a different board to not realise that the most important part (chance for a cure) is largely consistent with the first game

except*

A lot of the dramatic story beats require the vaccine to have been guaranteed if they did the surgery.

except you fail to realize that getting a vaccine would likely lead to a power struggle, where the fireflies would use it probably control people and rule the nation, creating even more infighting. Joel probably realized this and said fuck that I'm saving Ellie. Not that hard to understand

You see, your love for dogs is an ego thing. People own dogs like slaves and no matter how bad you treat them they will always "love" you. Of course what happens is those that don't "love" humans are bred out. So modern dogs are basically artificially selected enslaved affection simulacrum animals.

exactly

And you still can't take a step back to realise it all began with Joel

So you're just ignoring my entire point about why Abby's character doesn't work as shown in this image? I'm not talking about how Joel reflects on his actions, I'm talking about Abby, who doesn't do that

you don't know what dogs are or how old some breeds are, you have the assburgers, you can't interact with animals, it happens with bug people

Joel apologists actively lobby for a dumber story. Druckmann is saying that the cure was possible AND Joel did the right thing anyways

My balls look like a shambler desu

Don't know what he did?

I don't care

Imma tell you anyway

why does the show have zero nuance?

He said he would've done the same if it was his daughter not that it was the right thing

Yep. Usually when a trolley problem is set up, it's meant to be debatable and thought-provoking, not just preaching at you what the singular correct answer is

Stalkers don't make any sense, the fungus is supposed to take control over your body and make you go crazy, stalkers are intelligent enough to hide and flank and shit, as if a fungus can be intelligent. also what causes an infection to create a stalker instead of a normal runner?
