Originally clickers were the ONLY form of infected. Bruce Straley thought the enemy variety was lacking so he and his team came up with runners, stalkers, and bloaters last minute and put them all in the game in the last 8 months of development.

So what is the point in downgrading these games to a tv show format? It's one thing to adapt a book to television or film, because with a book your imagination is really what brings it to life as you read it, how you perceive the characters, how they talk, how they look, how they act it's all based on the writing and interpreted by the reader. With this though, we already know what the characters look like, how they act, and there's a ton more "acting" both dialogue and story in a video game like TLOU1 / 2 than anything in this tv show, since you have to dumb down the format to fit a 45 minute episode.

the show would never have an intricate episode of setting traps to fuck up people. even joel in part one only got the sniping sequence and the hospital extraction to display how much of a beast (in gameplay) he can be. though actually that would be a better use of an episode than the gay one, little to no dialogue, just various setups and ambushes.
