I can't take Iraq/war on terror shit seriously anymore after the intensity of the Ukraine war. The US lost like 7,000 troops total in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. That's less than either side lost in the Battle of Bakhmut alone. Even better, Ukraine is overall a low intensity war. If you look at footage from the capital then people are just going about their day. In WW2, tens of millions of soldiers fought there with tens of thousands of tanks, AT guns, and light vehicles. Today it's hundreds of thousands of soldiers with hundreds of tanks and vehicles. If shit ever actually got real then it would make the Iraq war would look like a training deployment.

This movie was good, it zeros in on a micro situation with no big picture. Its just 90mins of action, screaming and tension in a cinema verite format. The guy who deserves the most sympathy is the one who's house was fucked up.

Don't confuse the actions or motives of a country's government with it's citizens or soldiers. There is some overlap of course but most people would be perfectly happy to never go to war or send troops anywhere.

This. I liked Warfare for this reason. It shows individuals choosing to step into gunfire. You automatically wonder things. Why would they do that? Would I do that? Are there good reasons to do that? And it's 1000% real. There are people in your daily life who did this. It's insane.

The movie itself was well done. It was engaging and realistic enough to allow me to think about higher ideas. Conversely, I also watched American Renegades (2017). The bad acting and writing were so fake I couldn't even focus on the plot. "Hooah I'm about to fuck your girlfriend, Captain, right after this high speed tank chase scene." But Warfare was human and close and complex.
