I cant stop watching this

I randomly watched a ton of episodes. over the last few weeks. Wish we got more Jeremy wade kino. It was crazy when the sound guy got hit by lightning.

I like it too. I wish they still made episodes.

Weren't 95% of the episodes just him going after some variation of catfish or gar? I hated it because of that.

All fish are variations of catfish and gar. Stop getting filitered by one or two episodes.

I used to watch it ~10 years ago during the call-center shifts.
One night i fixed 80yo woman's wi-fi router remotely, in 30 mins, while watching sword fish episode.
Soul.
Soulful.

Didn't they have to stop because they literally caught every big fish on the planet?

Episodes/seasons are missing on streaming platforms and that’s the only negative thing I have to say about the program, Jeremy wade is kino. Early seasons are the best, but it’s funny seeing wade on a personal pleasure cruising boat in Africa complete with a study as it sails past Africans in literal log canoes

Yeah, they were doing like Mythbusters at once point having people send in suggestions to try and find something else for him to catch

episode starts

tale about some local fisherman being pulled underwater and violently raped and killed by a huge fish

"Now we journey to the river where it happened to see if we can catch this...monster"

Kino

He actually quits because he caught them all

You don't have to stop watching but he does fulfill his task

I go fishing with my brother sometimes and we always pretend that we're Jeremy Wade filming an episode of River Monsters.

catch the biggest rarest fish in the river

the elders demand you to hand it to them so they can eat it and end the curse upon their village

Man was the true river monster all along

Was curious so I looked it up

It's every episode

I pretend I'm the fish and my popcorn is thurdies

Maybe the true river monster was the friends we made along the way

theres no reason to stop

Jokes on them, the bigger the fish the more toxins it contains

here's story about underwater monster attacking people who get too near the cooling ponds at Chernobyl

"We must go and see if we can catch this atomic assassin!"

I was this way with Swamp People and Monsterquest. That was my shit back in the day. Didn't care how formulaic they were. I think everyone has that one or two shows they just can't help but nerd out on.

Its a fun show, they always have a good expedition to some wild part of the world even if they don't always catch a great fish. One of my favorite episodes is one where he goes to the Congo and he ends up discovering that the natives have fished all the large fish out of the river and they're probably drowning because they're idiots that don't know how to swim and they paddle down the river in tiny canoes covered in poorly secured fish hooks. During the episode the tribal chief who seems to be the only non retarded person in town has to leave on business and when he's slow getting back the superstitious villagers start talking about killing the whole film crew to appease their ooga booga spirits.

There are a lot of catfish episodes, there's only one gar episode.

I think you're missing the point to a degree though. The show is less about the fish and more about the journey to get there. Yes, the episode ends with him catching a big ass catfish and yes, maybe he's done that before; but last time he caught a giant catfish in the Himalayas that was eating dead bodies that hindus chucked in the river as a form of burial and this time he's gone to bumfuck nowhere at the end of the amazon to find a different species of catfish that's been eating local kids.

Its the journey not the destination.

What monster is that?
And why is it holding a fish?

Jeremicus Wadicus. It attacks any large fish in its vicinity

this monstrous catfish I'm holding could easily be responsible for the missing children from the local village

well, off ya go mate

This sounds way too kino for some random fishing show

i like the episode where he gets blasted in the chest by an arapaima. what a hero

It always starts with a local legend and then he tries to fish it out. He usually finds a big fucker. Try a couple episodes, its comfy and interesting

I remember one where he recounts how the tribals tried to offer him one of their daughters, when he refused they gave him a funny look and offered one of their sons instead

well that’s the circle of life, who am I too try and change it?

Before watching that show I had never considered the possibility of genital mutilation by fish, swimming isn't the same now

River Monsters + Mayday

God that episode is good

this show is fucking garbage.

snowflake contrarianism has its limits even here if you wanna make it believable.

Watching this show while knowing it's a show at the end of the day is somewhat fun.
I like to imagine scenarios they went through like Jeremy just fishing and talking shit to the villagers and crew recording all of that just to edit it into something cohesive, or Jeremy catching the biggest fish at the very beginning of the shooting and having to do more takes for material, or Jeremy and crew not understanding what the fuck is the random tribal man with the half dead language talking but translating it anyway to make up the story etc.

The interesting thing about the show is that the pilot for it with the Goonch was kind of this magical lightning in a bottle one off documentary that set the perfect framework for the whole series.

Jeremy hears about this giant fish, he goes on an expedition up into the Himalayas to find it, he discovers the weird truth behind why the fish is growing giant, and then he dramatically catches a massive fish on the last day of the expedition before they were set to go home with no conclusion.

That pilot naturally showed them what they needed to do to make a great episode so from then on they edit the episodes so they more or less take that form. I'm sure he caught the giant fish right at the start on some of his expeditions; but they always show it to you at the end of the episode to keep you interested as the story behind it unfolds.

Fun, comfy show. Well worth a watch.

A piranha that can grow to the size of your torso

but it's got human teeth

and it's developed an appetite for human genitals

This show was a hell of a thing.
