Which actually has the best movies...

Which actually has the best movies? Is the best horror icon also the one with the best movies or do you draw a distinction between the two?

It would've been Ghostface in terms of consistent quality, prior to the two newer movies which suck ass.
Now I'd say Jason, given the quantity and how the bad Ft13 movies aren't as bad as the bad Halloweens.

Is this a stealth B@skin thread?

Scream 5 and 6 really are terrible. They hurt Ghostface's legacy more than bad sequels hurt Freddy, Jason, and other top horror icons.

F13 is definitely the most consistently entertaining of them all, the first eight films are all pretty damn good

also Jason X is kino as well, even the reboot has its merits

Jason's movies suck. The reboot is the best one.

I have to go with Jason as well

the worst part about 5cream is that they kill off Dewey Riley and leave Boggy Foggy and Sidney, but then cut Sid the Squid from 6 because of Neve Campbell's social media, so now the only "original survivor" they got is the worst one, and they had to bring back hayden panera bread and pretend she survived.

like i'd like to see a scream movie where gender ortega and the sister character no one cares about try to fight the Scream and he's like "it's not about you i just love killing."

Ft13th 1-4 is the best stretch of films since it's essentially continuing right where the previous ended and I like that.

TCM 1 is the best singular movie of them all.

you're a homosex

Scream 5 is just a total mess particularly because of how awful Dewey's implementation in the film is before he gets killed

misremembers the number of times he got stabbed

says "It's always the boyfriend!" even though the killer was only the boyfriend in 1 of 4 previous killing sprees

Nope.

literally everyone in this picture is in but jason, who is stuck in license limbo

Pain.
Agony even.
Suffering if you will.

It's him.

It's not like they're making Nightmare shit either.
They're too afraid to recast Freddy, which wouldn't even be that difficult. I even think Rorschach in the remake was a decent choice, if they'd just let him be an actual character.

I like the Kevin Bacon as Freddy idea.

yep

Nope. You're a Jason fan. You guys look like this. Dead behind the eyes.

k3a1t4es.png - 1024x1024, 840.94K

Phantasm franchise has the best movies. And each movie has a different tone and philosophy. Yeah the last movie was pure fan service but at least they kept the gang together to send off the Tall Man. It's depressing how horrorfags omit Coscarelli and Phantasm from these discussions.

My personal fav is Phantasm IV.

kys

nice self portrait

A24 is in production on Crystal Lake the series

Looking forward to it. I hear that Jason is going to be an arty metaphor for how gay his fans are.

He is coming in 2026, this year’s big license is FNAF

IMB_ucZkZQ.gif - 364x205, 2.86M

Saw and freddy are top, jason close third.

Ten movies. No one is matching his level of quality across Ten movies.

goodpic.png - 1400x700, 1.31M

F13 Part 6: Jason Lives is absolute pure distilled kino

ctf.jpg - 569x428, 24.55K

Yeah, that one is pretty solid. Other than that one and remake the series is really shit. Only popular because the hockey mask was iconic and became visual short hand for the entire slasher genre. No series has ever been carried more by a mask. People don't actually like the Jason movies. They just like the idea that they are people who like the Jason movies.

SAW series is virtually flawless. The only lemon is the 9th film.
Hellraiser 1 and Nightmare on Elm Street 1 are amazing films with a few good sequels.
Halloween 1 is pretty good but I liked 3 more.
Friday the 13th is ok but a bit dated.

IMG_1985.jpg - 338x500, 46.89K

Ft13 is a free series. The consistency, the affects, the cheesiness, GREAT tasteful nudity, and well balanced gore.

*great series

I wonder if this was foreshadowing to the AI concept they're supposedly doing for Saw XI.

Texas Chainsaw is the best horror movie of all time

It is consistent. Consistently shit.

I like it movies, both the made for tv campy original and the remake. i dont really like spoopy mobies.

Leatherface

one good movie

franchise gets by on cool factor because chainsaws are awesome

Freddy

one good movie

franchise gets by on amazing creative practical effects

Jason

four good movies

franchise gets by on being the genre's audiovisual comfort food

Michael

one good movie

franchise gets by on a fanbase worse than Steven Universe

Pinhead

half a good movie

franchise gets by because perverts exist

Chucky

one good movie

franchise gets by on pure stupid

Ghostface

four good movies

franchise was gets by on RLJ's voice

Fagsaw

shouldn't even be on this poster

Jason has the most iconic headgear, audio cues, and consistently entertaining -albeit kinda trashy- movies. Leatherface has the coolest weapon. Freddy has the most complete and fleshed out look and is the only legitimately scary slasher of the bunch. Pinhead is for Sonic fans. Chuky is retarded. Ghostface looks and sounda amazing and makes the blandest murder weapon work, but loses points because he's just a mantle any faghot can carry. Fagsaw is zoomershit. Michael is our grandpa to whom we owe everything. I'm a Jasonfag through and through but I appreciate everything all of the boys above bring to the table. Except Fagsaw. Fuck Fagsaw. Claiming Megan fron Part VI from now until the end of time btw. Also fuck the remake for explaining away the magic with muh tunnel hunter Jason.

You have terrible taste.

best movies

Chucky

bet horror icon

Freddy

There are too many dogshit sequels in these franchises, but Child's Play did it right with the pivor to comedy horror. Bride and Seed are very different from CP1-3 but they're still worth watching.

Nightmare on Elm Street is objectively the best series.

best original movie

tie between Halloween and TCM

best sequel consistency

Friday the 13th and Saw

best source material

Hellraiser (the hellbound heart)

best character performance

Freddy Krueger and/or Jigsaw

best implementation of dark comedy

Chucky

best meta horror

Scream

They all have something going for them

honestly based

Yeah but the problem is that most of the franchises didn't exactly have a high bar to begin with, so bad sequels don't stick out as far.

13th takes a little bit to get going.
Freddy takes a little while to get its feet and then goes apeshit
Halloween is a mess of continuity
Hellraiser starts strong and gets much worse as it goes
Saw is the same, starts strong and drops hard with each asspull and lore development
Chucky is pretty good and consistent, but some people don't like the idea of the dolls, like the sex scene in bride
Scream is fine, really good to begin with but loses steam.
TCM is just the weird cousin you try not to think about, some people like it, some people hate it. Starts good, but drops and people seem to like the newer ones.

do i have to pick from the list?
Tremors first one is better rewatch then half of that list of "iconic" characters.
Freddy has the most charismatic actor leading the series, who for better part of some serious storyline issues maintains his horror.

Jason, bastardized too much to have verisimilitude in a remake or reboot, plus isn't it in license hell? Better for everyone to not demand another installment, but was kino at one point in childhood

Ghostface's satire essentially ended horror, not sure why he's on the list.

Halloween original is likely the best film out of films in each of these villains franchises, but they never could decide a route on esoteric/magic or pure old bad apple, entire franchise suffered from it

pinhead franchise is for weird people and sexual sadists, first one has sexual appeal though, great date night horror.

saw has only one good film and its the first one, torture porn is such aweird genre to me, but to each his own. And chucky is the funniest and most fun horror franchise in that list. Leatherface shouldn't be on there, not a franchise horror villian

5cream was the franchise's TLJ times a thousand. We literally had no bad movies until 5 showed up. Even 3 which a lot of fans don't exactly love manages to be entertaining, and 4 which was the weakest entry in my opinion is still fun and inventive. 5 went full blue milk. It looks like a YouTube video, it tried to capitalize on a nonexistent woke audience, it character assassinates all legacy characters and literally kills one in a way that's even less respectful than disappearin Luke, and it features the blandest bunch of characters played by the most wooden talentless actors. It's basically what Scream originally parodied. 6 just doubles down on the retardation, and 7 is going full memberberries by jangling muh Williamson and muh original cast after realizing what a huge fuckup the two previous installments were. Worst part is I really liked Ready Or Not and thus was extremely hopeful for 5. Serves me right, I guess.

Yeah Scream 5 is abysmal and shits all over everything that made the series good. And it's visually very ugly and cold, which is surprising because Ready or Not is a nice looking movie.

blood spurt before impact

RoN was the best horror comedy I'd seen in ages. Fun premise, awesome setting, great performances, memorable soundtrack, it looks beautiful, and I especially loved how the bride's look evolves through the movie. When I heard these guys were tackling the next Scream, I was like, right on! Seriously, what the fuck went wrong?

I'm not a horror fan at all although I've seen several of these and some of the sequels and the best one out of all of the ones I've seen waa Saw

Friday the 13th is easily the best series. Though if Scary Movie counts as a Scream movie, that would be the best individual film

For me it's a three way tie among Micheal, Freddy, and Jason.

Jason is the Chuck Norris of slashers. He's so intimidating that he kills you before he kills you.

Based classic chad.

franchise gets by on a fanbase worse than Steven Universe

understatement of the millenium

Jigsaw is also pretty fucking bad with 3D being good ironically.
7/10 films of your horror franchise being good is still a god damn miracle.

Wasn't trying to be disrespectful to Michael, but it's the truth. Michaelfags can be extremely obnoxious.

Best overall: Jason
Best films consistently: Michael or Jigsaw
Worst films consistently: Pinhead
Greatest singular film: Leatherface
I never really liked Chucky or Freddy and Scream is meta so I don't count it with the other traditional slashers.

I haven't seen more than 2 or 3 of any of the franchises but original Halloween is still best one. Texas chainsaw has its moments too

Finally got around to Jason's movies and while I knew his mother was the first killer I was shocked he didn't get the hockey mask til 3 and on that note I practically prefer the burlap sack it's more deranged

TCM is a fucking wild series.

1st movie is pure kino maybe the best slashes flick of all time

2nd movie is a complete 180 to horror comedy kino

3rd movie is the most forgettable shit ever

4th movie stars 2 huge hollywood stars right before their big breaks

remake is actually really solid with a great new villain that somehow is able to recapture the nasty atmosphere of the 1st film

remakes prequel just throws everything good about the remake out the window for a shitty incoherent mess of a film

3D is a weird "spiritual sequel" to the 1st film that kind of makes Leatherface an anti-hero?

Leatherface is a completely misguided prequel to the 1st film (and maybe 3D?) that hinges its entire story on a retarded twist

2022 is ANOTHER "spiritual sequel" to the original thats clearly just made because the Halloween sequel did well, down to having Sally become a Laurie standin, and is Leatherface vs annoying Millennials with a school shooting parallel for some reason?

Only Jason goes to hell is bad. Manhattan kinda sucks because it takes for ever for them to get to NYC

I would say pound-for-pound Scream has the best movies. Which is funny because on paper he's the lamest villain out of these.

Jason X is shit

It's Jason, easily. Most iconic and highest # of good movies.

Not to say others don't have good movies. But he consistently had the longest stretch of good movies.

Halloween suffers from reboots
Nightmare had like 2/3rds the movies of Friday

The rest are too new, irrelevant or have tanked bad

the AI concept they're supposedly doing for Saw XI.

Wat

Including Saw in that holy roster is an insult to life itself.

Excuse me! The 3rd film had Aragorn and a really fun "family" element. The swamp setting was kinda fun too. And the ending is based. I'd say the first half sucks but the last half is great. Still - a weird movie.

The 2nd is almost kino - the first half, the characters, the ending are all schizo fun but it drags at times.

The 4th is next on my re-watch-a-thon.

Retarded as fuck? Sure. Shit? Nope. It's fun and it's got one of the best kills in the franchise, which is unheard of considering we're talking about the tenth installment.

franchise gets by on a fanbase worse than Steven Universe

Please back that up, without evidence I struggle to believe that, the SU fanbase is worse than MLPs

Forced franchise

Simply watch the original in each franchise and disregard all other entries in each franchise. /thread, although the thread seems long enough that I bet someone has already made this observation.

replying to baskinzoomies

hellraiser 2 shits all over the entire F13 franchise and it's only a 7/10 at best. jasonfags are subhuman mouthbreathers. every single one of those movies is just a bland product marketed to idiots.

Not really. It's the weakest of the 80s F13 flicks. Extremely tame, no gore, no tits, it doesn't even earn its R rating. Main character is annoying always screaming JASON, JASON IS BACK, WHY WON'T ANYONE LISTEN TO ME AHHHHHHHHHHHH. No atmosphere, no suspense, just a self-aware parody of the franchise made by someone who admits he doesn't even understand why people like the series.
How it developed such a following is a mystery to me, but it usually seems to be people who aren't even fans of the other movies

nah, it's a lot of fun, Jason stuck in an episode of some 90s sci-fi tv show, kino

Why does Friday the 13th make autists like you seethe so much? Why can't you just say "I don't like those movies" and leave it at that? Did Jason fuck your mom or something?

Early Friday 13th movies are shockingly bad, I was expecting it to be your typical shitty slasher with kills and tits, based on formula established by Texas Chainsaw and Halloween, but it's just pointless talking scene between teenagers, then shitty kill usually filmed in first person then it repeats for 1 hour 20 minutes until movie sort of ends, there is no structure to this, teenagers don't even realize something is going on until only a few are left.

Part 1 at least has batshit crazy performance by Betsy Palmer in the end and Jason looks cool in 2-3, but until 4 those movies are so amateurish.

Tom Savini apparantly worked on 1 and 4 and latter has amazing practical gore, but 1 only has one cool Kevin Bacon arrow kill, it seems like Tom was only invovled in making that one scene.

There's just no one like him.

mdwn9iy4.png - 1200x628, 1.06M

Must've struck a nerve there. I love how we're all rolling around in the same niche sub-genre mud pit, but you Pinheadfags pretend your guy -who can't get anything done without an entire crew, mind you- is somehow unadulterated 3deep5me Shakespearen arthouse greatness. Eat a bag of dicks and go die in a HIM music video, you massive pretentious faggot. Your shit is just Hostel/Terrifier/Human Centipede slop for boomers, but it's based on bong writings so everyone pretends it's anything but.

Love the first movie. The second is one has fun kills but the main characters aren't nearly as likeable and the way they defeat him at the end is straight up retarded. 3 & 4 are super campy low budget Canadian flicks but still a good time

Claiming Megan fron Part VI from now until the end of time btw

DAMMIT
