There is so much demand for high school teachers, especially for complex subjects like science, that they can get a job anywhere automatically. Getting a job in academia is not only harder, it might be a worse paying job. Take for example Ontario, where I live. Teachers here make 100k and have benefits out the ass. It’s really easy to become a teacher. Professors are much less in demand, much harder to work your way up that totem pole.
