hol up.

organized religion is le bad though

character has ... le opinion

villain has ... le motivation

How did Reddit reacts to this movie where the bad guy represents so well their worldview

why don't you go there, find out and report back?

Religion CAN be bad, but it CAN be good, if you see it as something to entertain rather than believe. It is a tool like anything else.

Islam: Will kill you if you dare imply Allah isn't real.
Christianity: God is compared to nature/science.
Judaism: "Who cares if He exists or not lolol"

This. Religion is about control, and you either use it to control the lives of others, or your own life, for better or worse. Priests are politicians by any other name. Shepherds.

Islam: Will kill you if you dare imply Allah isn't real.

that's just cause modern day islam is headed by despots. golden age islamic rulers were very secular in comparison.

The revelation of his motivation was so fucking disappointing. They could have done something genuinely interesting with this movie, maybe an actual supernatural angle to it with the "prophet". So lame. That being said, Hugh Grant gives a great performance, the leads are cute and the general atmosphere and set design is comfy.

The room was designed like a Masonic with the two candles on each side of the desk.
He clearly represents an "enlightened" atheistic Freemason like the types who did the French revolution (or the Bolshevik revolution as well, but that one is more complicated, and yes I know that Stalin later banned Freemasons)

golden age islamic rulers were very secular in comparison.

The golden age of Islam was thanked to Persians not Muslims. Those Persians also threw the Quran into the trash. Christian intellectuals could actually work with the Bible, or interpret it educatively. Muslims later made math a satanic sin. Muslims will claim Ghazali is being taken out of context, but we have actual documented evidence that he thought math was from the Devil.

And by "Persians not Muslims" I'm referring to the conquered Persians who were forced to take in Islam up the ass. Arab Muslims ruin all nations they touch.

would have been a better film if he really was just a guy who wanted to debate them, and they are so afraid they kill him because you've been brainwashed by religion to be afraid of atheists

I don't understand why he kidnapped and tortured those women, what did that have to do with religion being about control? Surely he could use control to do good stuff?

The golden age of Islam was thanked to Persians not Muslims

That's like saying Christian intellectuallism was thanks to Europeans, not Christians.

Christian intellectuallism

you misspelled it

like a Masonic

*Masonic temple
two columns represent the two pillars of the Temple of Solomon
same imagery in 9/11, two towers, etc.

And you didn't use punctuation, so what? This is not /dbs/, stop being childish.

they were earlier victims of his dumb gauntlet.

Well, yeah.

Also he got several things wrong.
He describes Christianity as a sort of "offshoot" or "spinoff" of Judaism, but that's not exactly right. A lot of people get this confused. It is complicated and it depends on what one means by "Judaism".
The Judaism that we have today is actually younger than Christianity. It is descended from the Pharisees and other Jews who rejected Christ. After the destruction of the temple in AD 70, they sort of had to invent a new religion for themselves, and that is what evolved into modern Rabbinical Judaism.
The Judaism of the ancient Israelites in the Old Testament is not the same as the Judaism of today. People always get this confused. It would be more accurate to say that the Old Testament Hebrew religion was Christianity, but they were looking forward to Christ whereas Christianity looks back to Christ.
Modern Rabbinical Judaism does obviously retain some elements of the Old Testament religion, this is true, but it is not the same thing.

If you talk about intellectualism you should spell correctly.

Also christian intellectualism is an oxymoron lmao.

Did you ever notice that the main target of the New Atheist movement was Christianity about 99% of the time.
To their credit, they did sometimes, occassionally, criticize Islam too. Ok fair enough, that's good.
However, did they ever, even once, criticize Judaism? No of course not. And then you see Sam Harris, the vaccine propagandist, and the like advocating for Zionism of course. It makes one think.

Again, stop being childish.

just learn to spell you christian retard

Maybe religions should start being benevolent if they wanted to be depicted as such, just a thought

Again, stop being childish.

trailer makes the house sound like its a labyrinth

literally just a main floor, basement and shelter

Hugh Grant did his best but the script was fucking awful as were the lead actresses. Easily the most overrated A24 film I've seen yet. Even Ari Aster slop is better than this shit and yet it got on some indie publications year end lists and a 90%+ from RT. It was all pretense with zero execution that fell apart 30 minutes in and never recovered.

Judaism: "Who cares if He exists or not lolol"

Shalom Moshe.

It's a dumb slasher movie except the killer is a euphoric atheist. Don't loose your head, mother superior.

I am here to chew bubblegum and watch cute scared girls... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

This

tsmt
I still somewhat enjoyed it due to Hugh Grant, great actor

this movie was so fucking bad holy fuck

Religion isn't le bad, but Mormonism is unironically a cult that should be eradicated
This, it's trash, don't watch it

Judaism: "Who cares if He exists or not lolol"

Yet somehow he did give us this piece of land thousands of years ago, and it´s still ours, no matter who has lived there since centuries. lolol

I thought the first bit was very interesting seeing how the two girls have different levels of caution and react to different things and have different responses once the threat becoming more apparent but as soon as they go into the basement everything goes to complete shit. it goes to shit then somehow keeps getting shittier every scene. just complete shallow trash. would have been much better if hugh grant had just stumbled upon the first religion all others are based on and its psycho human sacrifice shit, at least then it would be fun horror schlock. instead it tries to make a 'point' that's so fumbled and stupid that I think even the most fedora reddit atheist would gag

I unironically prefer judaism to christianity or islam. jews just wanna live in peace and don't give a shit about whether or not you convert.

even with all the stuff regarding israel, that's only happened in the past hundred years. before that jews didn't really cause any holy wars or have an equivalent of jihad

unironically

reddit prose

I thought this movies was going to be about him slowly trying to convince them to become atheist but he pushes them too fast by using things like hallucinogens or drugs so that he can just say it was "all in their head" and they end up killing him.

Why do movies all have the dark, depressing color pallete now?
Maybe you could argue that it's appropriate for this particular movie, but that doesn't work when all movies look exactly like this.
Plus if you went into someone's house and it looked like that you would want to leave immediately.

Not true when it was still called 'new atheism', but definitely true after 'atheism+' started to be bandied about.

Around 2010-ish it was also very critical of Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, etc. If anything they had backed off of Islam a bit because of how much the religious right in America had focused on it. Certainly it was more critical of the fundamentals of Judaism than Christianity ever was.

You also have to consider the kind of rules they have for their own people though. Judaism on average is about as extreme as some very fringe Christian groups (10% most extreme) when it comes to rules of conduct for Jews. They also have their fringe groups, most of them are fairly standard Westerners / secularists.

Sam Harris presents himself as the paragon of logic, critical thinking, and rationality. However, he goes into a hysterical rage if anyone questions vaccines or the state of Israel.

The intellectuals who got famous through new atheism or because of new atheism have a very strong establishment bias. The vibe on the internet was a lot more anti-establishment. At the start the intellectuals got support because they were happy to focus on how they were anti-some-other-guys-establishment in criticizing religions they weren't a part of, or the Bush era western governments. They backed way off through Obama and then later after Occupy it was completely different, and now they basically just like to say how Christians and conservatives are bad, sometimes adding that Israel is good.

people misinterpreting religion is... le bad

The guiding focal point is on tearing down European Whites
If you don't know by now...

i went to Anon Babble to try and learn how to summon a cure demon gf but it didn't work

I think it was on purpose that he got things about religions wrong.

Funny how both those women become instantly 1000% more likeable and attractive when they're playing demure, naive, subservient roles via acting/pretending to be mormon girls instead of haughty know-it-all modern feminist-inclined slut retards.

I'm pretty sure Mormons don't let their girls go door to door like that without a man accompanying them.

thats not true, two mormons came to my door a month ago and they were both women
they returned the following week with one of their children

They explain this in the movie, they're allowed go door to door but they're not allowed go into a house unless they have a man with them or there is a woman of the house present

anon that would just mean that BOTH Christianity and Judaism are spinoffs.

pretending to be mormon girls

I mean they actually both are/were Mormon.
so there's that.

cute

I thought it was interesting, but was really disappointed when it was revealed all to be some shitty trick. The whole one true religion being power was just fucking lame. Would have been 10x better to have been some weird supernatural shit.

Wasn't there a supernatural moment at the end when the one girl came back to life to save the other one

Religion CAN be bad, but it CAN be good, if you see it as something to entertain rather than believe

This was essentially the conclusion of the film, but OP is a cum guzzling faggot who didn't watch it

No it was a double, that chicj actually died from poisoning then another woman switched the bodies.
