Which Star Wars movies are actually worth watching?

Which Star Wars movies are actually worth watching?

s-l400.jpg - 314x400, 23.18K

1-6, plus rogue one if you really want

Would you actually put babies in that?

Watch episodes 1 and 2. 2 ends on a happy note so you can just pretend that its the actual ending

I'm fine with just the OG trilogy, maybe make time for the Prequels... wouldn't waste time with the Disney Sequels...

Rogue One is passable.

...that's about it...

Unpopular opinion, but Attack of the Clones is the best Star Wars film of them all and I won't be elaborating further.

1-6

Why would you need to elaborate on something so obvious?

aotcg.jpg - 3455x2448, 861.14K

It really captured the feeling of a sweeping space epic with just the right amount of intrigue to boot. Also the banter between Anakin and Obi-Wan is probably the highlight of the entire canon so far.

Star Wars (1977)
And The Empire Strikes back
Then play Kotor and Kotor 2

only you can decide that anon. I can't think of any I'd watch again. but I still play the shit out of Jedi Outcast

wp4163079.jpg - 1024x768, 115.09K

Kotor and Kotor 2

Those games are more in line with the prequels, if you want games similar to OT you should go with Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy

posting screen caps

Pretty visuals ain't ever gonna fix bad writing, acting, and character motives zoomer

bad writing, acting, and character motives

Luckily they were all great too

Kotor and Kotor 2 do a better job of presenting the rise and fall of the Jedi than the prequels do, which is why you should play them instead of watching the shitty prequels.

1-6 any made post Lucas selling to Disney are non-canon

I wanna kiss her bare tummy while she quivers with nervous excitement.

Only the kinoquels

I bet you couldn't even articulate what is good about the acting, story, or characters without lying.

Star wars has always been a glorified b-movie
Even if these were true (it's not), It's not a valid criticism

Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith
Rogue One
A New Hope
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi

It's underrated, as a kid I preferred Phantom Menace but looking back now, Attack of the Clones is the superior film.

kino

Even if the prequels did suck then it'd be okay!

Are prequelfags really this fucking stupid?

Original trilogy.
Plus Xmas special.

Attack of the Clones is my favourite but whether any of them are worth watching really depends on your personal preferences.

If this one were edited to include glowing sith eyes, it would be complete.

Attack of the Clones is my favourite

Unironically how?

Because it's the best one?

I repeat,
How?

Honestly, I'll watch OT, Prequels, Rogue One and Solo any old time. They really should have committed to making the Obi-Wan and Boba Fett movies like they planned, because both of them were worse off being shows.

the original star tours ride movie
episodes 1-6
the ewok movie with the marauders and gorax and nightsisters
the live action cutscenes from the rebel assault and dark forces series
and this:
youtube.com/watch?v=eUczUdIYMyM

III, IV, V, VI in that order. Optionally: I and II.

and I won't be elaborating further.

Of course you won't.

Its becoming the popular opinion and rightly so.

It seems to be unfairly shit on even by people who defend the prequels. I remember enjoying it as a kid. I liked Obi-wan being a 1940s detective, but of course my parents showed me that shit when I was young. Maybe people don't get it.

We're watching Episode V in here right now by the way

when does SW become relevant?

The original trilogy is actually pretty decent.

None of them. Even at its best It's literally capeshit.

If you're under 12 odds are you won't notice they're bad so all of them. If you're over 12 you shouldn't be watching or discussing Star Wars (the only exception is if you're making fun of those that do).

Attack of the Clones is so good guys!

Dooku hires Jango who hires Zam who uses a droid that sends bugs to kill Padme who is only having assassination attempts as a favor to Nute Gunray who wants Padme dead despite being the one person actively against a Republic Army being created which would be a huge problem for Nute and all of his Secessionist buddies.

Kamino is still building a Clone Army after literally 10 years without contact from the person that ordered it. This person is a Jedi who somehow managed to acquire the money for an army and mysteriously dies right after ordering them.

The Jedi who are actively against a army being built and the outset of war don't inform anyone of the Clone Army and for some reason decide to command it despite the Jedi being against the concept of slavery even though it's an army of slave despite the Army being mysteriously commissioned by a Jedi Master they knew died despite the clones being based on the genetic material of a Bounty Hunter who is hired by Seperatist forces to Assassinate Padme

Padme leaves Coruscant mere days before the vote on the army creation because of an Assassination attempt despite having survived one literally when she arrived. Then leaves fucking Jar Jar Binks to vote on her behalf who is so fucking stupid he thinks Padme would be entirely fine with giving Palpatine the authority to build an army.

Padme still loves Anakin despite him literally slaughtering women and children when she has shown no signs of thinking death is ever an adequate punishment even for the Trade Federation slime balls that invaded her planet... wait how did those fuckers get out of prison for invading a fucking planet?

But but guys it's good!

Any number and you're a pathetic faggot who needs to stop posting a d get checked for mental illness.

incel rage

classic

IV, V, VI, I, and rogue one

Watch the original trilogy.
That's the bare minimum.

If you like it, and don't mind some disappointment and if you keep your expectations low, watch the prequels.
You can grab some fun out of them.
Ultimately, they don't really harm the conclusion of the originally trilogy, so they're mostly harmless.
If you're already watching the prequels, and you're not hating the experience completely, you should be fine with watching Rogue One too(and Andor).

Skip the Sequel Trilogy.

Oh and when you watch the OT, figure out the best version to watch, I don't fucking know at this point.

Watch in release order.

If you absolutely want more star wars movies, the answer is still, No, don't watch the Sequel Trilogy.
Watch Battle for Endor and Caravans of Courage instead.

wait? are those actually good?

Not really.
You're not gonna watch The Force Awakens though.

I don't know about Solo.

manchild hobbies

Such as? You're posting for dubs because you think it will magically give you information about some bitch who isn't paying attention to you in a Star Wars thread, lol. Get a life!

But but guys it's good!

Yes

Imagine being unable to understand the plot of a movie for children

But but guys it's good!

If you're retarded.

There are only 3 Star War movies

Imagine not being able to defend the plot to a movie for children

the clone army was uncovered while investigating a conspiracy related to the sith/war

they literally just go along with this amazing coincidence because they're retarded

they all get murdered because the plot needs it to happen

...

massive conflict spanning thousands of planets all across the galaxy

literally going on for decades at this point with millions upon millions of people involved

it ends because the plot needs it to (i.e. 3 mins of screentime in which Anakin kills 5 or 6 people)

...

Anakin trusts Palpatine, a Sith who started a massive war killing millions for the sake of his own power, and betrays the Jedi

the excuse is "PADME THO! JEDI DON'T RESPECT MUH POWER LEVEL!"

...

the relationship between Anakin/Padme generates no actual conflict within the plot (the audience is just told "FORBIDDEN ROMANCE!" even though nothing actually inhibits them)

the plot is literally just "EMOTIONS ARE CONFUSING AND RELATIONSHIPS CAUSE EMOTIONS!"

Basically, shit needs to happen in order for the plot to move forward so it does. Sure, there are lots of nonsensical plot holes but this is low-hanging fruit that has been done to death (basically cheap YouTube style criticism). The deeper problem is that the plot isn't being driven by characters in something that has the pretense of being a tragedy; tragedy is specifically character driven as far as that genre goes. You end up with simplistic retard takes from the characters while the plot happens to them and them making decisions that are kind of stupid because the plot simply needs to happen.

Keep seething dummy.

Keep trying to get information from random numbers like a low IQ 12 year old girl you beta-male loser, lol.

1. Democratically elected monarch.

This was solely done because Lucas wanted Leia to be a real princess and was reaching for surface level themes about democracy. It's retarded.

2. She's a teenager.

This was only done because Lucas had to restrict the age gap between Padme and Anakin. It's retarded.

3. Elected leader of an entire planet but no one recognizes her.

Lucas did this because his audience is stupid and won't notice it. He wanted a cliched plot twist that depends on the fact the audience are morons.

inb4: elected monarchs existed

They weren't children.

inb4: there were child rulers

They weren't elected and had regents.

inb4: she had a body double

She was supposedly elected head of an entire planet.

. Elected leader of an entire planet but no one recognizes her.

I didn't care much for the prequels until I read the novelizations, they really opened my eyes. So much better than the film versions

AND PADME?

she told you that you were breaking her heart, bro

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I can tell you're angered that I enjoy a movie and you don't. Strange, but you'll probably keep replying anyway.

The original trilogy are fun fantasy flicks, but nothing that will amaze you if you aren't a boomer growing up in the 70's. Revenge of the Shit is also fun schlokino. Everything else can be safely skipped.

The prequels will be known as greatest of starwars movies some day.

These movies are still debated fiercely, even today.

I can tell you're projecting as a means of cope because deep down you know thinking the movies make sense means you aren't that bright.

ANH, TESB and the beginning to ROTJ. Nothing else is canon.

MUH POWER LEVEL

uh, a little bit shallow for tragic hubris...

CAN YOU NOT SEE MY INNER CONFLICT!

hmmm, the relationship with Padme could be a source of conflict...

NO! IT'S FUCKING ROMANTIC! WE SAID IT'S FORBIDDEN AND THAT'S ENOUGH! NO ONE WILL NOTICE! WE'RE TELLING YOU HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THIS!

but neither of your characters really change based on one another...

CAN'T YOU SEE HOW FUCKING TRAGIC THIS IS? MY EYES CHANGED COLOUR!

this feels a little rushed...

[FORCE CHOKES PADME]

while giving birth she...dies of a broken heart?

THIS IS TRAGEDY!

ffs

Who gives a shit if they're perceived as bright or not? Especially here. Come on now. Accept others enjoy things you don't.

What are the absolute best releases of the prequel trilogy? I know 4k77 etc is the best for the originals.

Enjoy them all you want but the movies are bad and you're a retard for not understanding why. Simple as.

The original Star Wars trilogy is classic cinema and should be experienced in its most authentic form if possible:

the 1989–1995 VHS releases

These releases don't have any of the later edits. View this version if you can.

the 1997 Special Edition VHS releases

This release includes controversial edits that many fans do not like.

Additionally, it is worth checking out "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" from 2016.

If you don't mind bizarre and clunky movies, then check out the 6-film Star Wars saga. This includes Episodes 1 to 3 and heavily edited versions of Episodes 4 to 6.

Finally, my personal canon goes like this:

Episode 1 The Phantom Menace

Episode 2 Attack of the Clones

Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Episode 4 A New Hope (2004 or 2011 release)

Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back (2004 or 2011 release)

Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure

Ewoks: The Battle for Endor

Episode 6 Return of the Jedi (2004 or 2011 release)

People who have sex don't watch Star Wars

majority of the world has had sex

majority of the world has seen star wars

how does this math make any sense at all

Why are you writing onomatopoeia about sucking my cock, weirdo. Go watch Jar Jar, lol.

all these posts praising attack of the clones

Is it one dude samefagging or do people unironically like that movie now?

Oh god anon just a few more replies, please don't stop now

I've always liked it, although the novel version by RA Salvatore is a lot better.

It's unironically a very sweet love story.

May the 4th and RotS just had its 20th anniversary so people are thinking about Star Wars again

No. I personally only like the scenes on Naboo.

From the moment I met you all those years ago not a day has gone by when I haven't thought of you. And now that I'm with you again I'm in agony. The closer I get to you, the worse it gets. most of the deleted scenes improve the film, but had to be cut for the runtime

Yeah, yeah, keep going with that. I like it. So close now. Talk about Jar Jar again or how you don't understand a movie made for children.

I mean Jar Jar is far from the biggest issue with the prequels. But yes he is a major problem with The Phantom Menace. But hey anon just keep ignoring all the criticism. I'm sure it's the people who are wrong not you.

We watchan the original trilogy right now in our kinoplex, all welcome v4c.fun

Did the Empire purposely denied any Interdictor to Vader's fleet, which would have been very useful to hunt down the Rebels.
I guess the Imperial Navy hates Vader. He's a terrible commander of men and borderline incompetent in his wielding of sizable military forces cuz he was a political appointee.

And no strawberry jam anti-measures... their sensors were cooked...

Prequelfags are dumb enough to enjoy the prequels which means they're too dumb to understand why they're bad. All they can do is repeat plot beats they were directly told by the movie absent any acknowledgement of criticism as if you missed them:

Anakin's "forbidden" relationship with Padme doesn't actually cause any conflict in the plot

HE HAS FEELINGS THOUGH AND THEY MAKE HIM DO NO-NOS!

that's not conflict--the only reason you know the relationship is "forbidden" is because you're told over and over again

IT'S FORBIDDEN BECAUSE IT LEADS HIM TO THE DARK SIDE!

but nothing actually impedes the relationship, you're simply told "it's forbidden" to give it a false sense of gravity when there aren't any actual stakes being demonstrated by way of characters driving things forward

HE SIDES WITH PALPATINE BECAUSE HE LOVES HER AND IT'S FORBIDDEN!

the Jedi don't do anything to stop his relationship, Obi Wan even accepts it when he finds out, and since you've brought it up he has no reason to trust Palpatine (he thinks a guy who started a war killing millions all so he can take power cares about his relationship with some girl?)

...

?

HIS JUDGEMENT IS CLOUDED BECAUSE HE LOVES PADME AND THE JEDI FORBID IT!

Ffs, lol.

It's just an enjoyable blockbuster : )

Sure, if you're a mouth breathing retard.

Thanks for making me cum honey

things anon's mom has said to random black men while anon is occupied by watching Star Wars

cuz he was a political appointee.

Well, he was a literal General for an entire war. But of course one could argue he sucked at that too

Attack of the Clones is kino if only for the first 40 minutes being a space noir; however, even I'm not contrariancoded and prequelpilled enough to say it's the best Star Wars movie.

SQUAWK reddit letter media rocks SQUAWK

Just dropped in to point out you guys have to frame every prequel thread as the movies not being bad and you're still seething about friend simulator videos that came out 16 years ago. If the movies were actually good you would have moved on by now and the eceleb videos wouldn't have got so much traction that they still live rent-free after more than a decade and a half.

Cry, seethe, ignore the fact you feel the need to continuously defend them instead of enjoying them. Just remember that you're low IQ for taking Star Wars this seriously in the first place.

Do with this information what you will.

The friend simulator videos came out more than a decade and a half ago, anon. It's time to stop letting them live rent free in your mind every time you think about your gay ass Jar Jar movies.

the movies came out 20 years ago anon, and yet here you are

Very based, I always like watching Attack of the Clones. Padmé, the assassination storyline and seeing the lower parts of Coruscant, going to Kamino. Seeing more of Naboo, Padmé wearing a leather corset to her not-date with Anakin, Anakin's revenge of his mother. The space fight and arena are both top tier, too.

every outdoor shot of Cloud City in the theatrical release looks terrible.

AotC is stupid as hell and is almost as bad as the sequel trilogy

t.brainlet

>Anakin's "forbidden" relationship with Padme doesn't actually cause any conflict in the plot

Anon...

Anakin never had a padawan

why did Anakin call her snips was she a transgruta?

You're splitting hairs, as if Nute Gunray's thoughts and feelings had anything to do with the actual plot.
The real story is to depict a singular evil mastermind and his plan to corrupt and dominate a galaxy unfold.

Star Wars (1977 - original cut)
The Star Wars Holiday Special
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (with the caveat understanding that this was the most destructive movie in the series, turning it from the originally intended upbeat Flash Gordon space adventure into a subverted sadboy melodrama about daddy issues - script written by Fox studio writers instead of Lucas himself)
Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
Star Wars Episode VII: The Ewok Adventure
Ewoks: The Caravan of Courage
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menance
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

The original and Attack of the Clones are the best.

upbeat Flash Gordon space adventure

Um no. If the fucking mastermind is trying to get a war going then he'd directly have Dooku kill Padme to destroy any opposition to a standing army for the republic. Palpatine would be pissed if Dooku was sending a long paper trail of bounty hunters out to kill padme just for the sake of Nute fucking Gunray.

nerds will meme you here, but if this is a serious post then just know you only need to watch episode v: the empire strikes back (the best in the franchise) followed by episode iii: revenge of the sith (the only other truly "great" film in the franchise) as a prequel to it.
after that you've comprehensively experienced the peak of star wars and its up to you as to how much of this shit show you want to get dragged into

I can't defend my shit movies without muh RLM scarecrow argument

Only retards that get their own opinions from youtube critics make this retarded claim.

my friend used to smash the skeletal bounty hunter chick on the reg, shes actually super hot irl

It doesn't. The plot is something that happens to the characters instead of the characters driving the plot. Go ahead and describe how the relationship changes the characters involved by appealing to the evidence within the film. You can't, all you can do is repeat plot beats because the plot dictates character instead of characterizations evolving and driving the action of the story. That's fine when you're making cartoons like the OT but it becomes laughable when you have the pretense that you're creating an epic tragedy, lol.

His plan was more in-depth than the war, yokel.
Remember he wanted Anakin to become his new Apprentice, the jewel of the Jedi Order and the one prophesied to bring Balance - brought to his heel as his Dark champion.

This means he could not touch Padme until the time was right, after Anakin was properly indoctrinated and mentally prepared for the moment - and it had to be Anakin himself doing the deed.

purists will say only the original 3
personally I recommend the 6 GL ones
nuwars cucks will try to convince you to watch all of them
children will meme you into the cartoon slop(only watch the 2d one if you do this)

Flash Gordon is full of violence and even torture.

Not that anon but when does it actually cause conflict? Like had Padme not gotten knocked up their relationship would have still been underwraps and they'd have lived happily ever after. If anything Anakin's visions are what cause the conflict since once again their relationship would have been completely unimpeded had Anakin just didn't listen to them.

The visions are the result of his relationship!

So? Anakin getting found by the Jedi is a result of R2D2 fixing the Nubian's shields in time but I don't see anyone arguing R2 is directly responsible for the rise of Vader

Literally only the HAL9000 edits

Hey retard you're putting the horse before the cart. Palpatine's end goal is to become Emperor of the Galaxy. Anakin doesn't matter to his end goals, he's a tool to be used and he'll use any other if Anakin wasn't available. This is obvious with his desires to replace Vader with Luke in ROTJ and the fact his plans to become Emperor existed long before Anakin was in the picture. Vader is inconsequential to Sheev. Also even if Sheev's endgoal was Anakin and not becoming hotshot of the Galaxy he could still make him turn to the dark side withput Padme. You really think he couldn't prey on any of Anakin's other feelings like maybe... oh I dunno HIS MOTHER?

God damn this is why I hate talking to you prequel sinpletons you fuckers don't even understand the fucking plots to the films you supposedly love. Now fuck off you retard.

because the plot dictates character instead of characterizations evolving and driving the action of the story.

it becomes laughable when you have the pretense that you're creating an epic tragedy

How will Euripides ever recover from this genre takedown?

No one is watching your YouTube clips, retard. Either demonstrate an understanding of the criticism presented by responding to it in your own words or fuck off, lol. The fact is the relationship doesn't cause any actual conflict because the plot is something that happens to the characters instead of the characters driving plot. This is why you can only repeat plot beats and only the most basic of motivations (which themselves are embedded in plot beats told directly to the audience) instead of pointing to the evolution of character dynamics that drive the story. The characters don't drive the story.

Lucas is a master of multi-layered storytelling and this has to be taken into account when viewing the prequels. Just look at this scene--its short but there is so much going on! You have to understand how this scene on an archetypical level--the natural nature of digestion vs. power draining machines. But there's still so much more. You see, in the EU it's explained that this animal is actually owned by a man named Zeeboo Beeboo who had been misfeeding it prior to the events we see in TPM. Coincidentally--he looks a little like Jar Jar and therefore, via this subtle foreshadowing via flatulence, we see the revolutionary embers that will spark the fire of a rebellion (what a set up!). But wait, there's even more at work here! What can be interpreted as a simple fart joke is actually a direct echo of Luke/Leia's incestuous kiss (you have to be familiar with Ring theory to truly understand this). But given the archetypal nature/machine dichotomy and the hidden performative protest of the animal's fart, which deftly signals to the audience the coming of rebellion, we see the brother/sister kiss as the symbolic act of defiance against a hegemonic empire! Remember that scene where Jar Jar stepped in poo-poo? Foreshadowing of the trouble to come. BRAVO LUCAS!
Lucas is a genius who layers his films so they work on multiple levels. Please like and subscribe for more fart sniffing videos.

Prequelfags are some of the dumbest people you'll find on the internet. You'll notice that they'll say shit they have no idea about (e.g. "allegory of the Roman Empire" or "Aristotelian structure"). The reason for this is that people used to mock the prequels by pretending they had depth and prequelfags didn't get the irony. They'll parrot stuff they have absolutely no clue about simply because they think these poorly written CG cartoon movies are high art. It's pretty hilarious.

It's clips from the movie you are saying don't exist, lol.

Strawman and appeal to shitposting. Get an argument.

Come Episode II, Anakin is being trained as a monk. He's not allowed to have attachments. He falls in love with Padme (and on the other side of the same coin, she was seducing him) and they have a marriage that would be forbidden by the Jedi for Anakin and would ruin Padme's career. This puts pressure on Anakin not to expose them.
At the beginning of Episode III she's pregnant with his children, which threatens to expose them.
On top of this, Anakin has visions of her dying in childbirth. This isn't exactly an unwarranted fear, given the war and his paranoia about keeping their marriage secret. On top of this, it's been well established that Jedi are psychics by this point in the Star Wars saga, and in Episode II we also literally had Anakin experiencing visions of his mother being tortured by the sand people, which came true. So he has reasons to be afraid here.

Feeling he can't turn to the Jedi for help, he falls into Palpatine's hands when Palpatine implies he can teach Anakin to ensure the safety of his wife's life by supernatural means.

In other words the entire prequel plot, the entire reason for Anakin becoming Darth Vader hinges on Anakin's relationship being forbidden by the Jedi, and his feeling unable to trust them to help him when he felt he needed it.

inb4 "b-b-but you just described the plot LOL"

I'm dealing with someone who wrote

>Anakin's "forbidden" relationship with Padme doesn't actually cause any conflict in the plot

Like had Padme not gotten knocked up their relationship would have still been underwraps and they'd have lived happily ever after.

Gosh its almost like their relationship caused conflict in the plot.

I can't respond to criticism in my own words

I know, anon. You're a retard. That's why the clips you posted are likely the audience being directly told the plot of the film and how they should feel about things instead of demonstrating a depth you can't write about because it simply isn't there, lol.

You seem to think you have a personal depth that isn't there.

Alex Guinness would be disappointed in me, I've probably seen ANH about 50 times by now

explains the plot instead of responding to criticism that plot drives characters instead of characters informing plot

The relationship doesn't cause conflict. The audience is simply told it's forbidden because Lucas is a hack and leaned on tropes he couldn't even flesh out, lol.

Y-YOU DON'T HAVE DEPTH

Lol. Hush up now, manchild. Go watch Jar Jar.

Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back
Then watch Return of the Jedi, it kind of sucks but just to finish the story
All the other ones are bad and don't really exist
PS
A New Hope is not the real name

Padme's lack of birth control caused conflict. Dumb bitch would have saved the galaxy had she just taken her damn pill

The original trilogy. The rest is junk. Even RotJ is a compromised mess, though I still like it.

the movie doesn't have scenes that show this

and if it did, then it doesn't count because the characters are stating their feelings rather than directing the plot

and if they aren't directing the plot, then you have to narrate the scene in your own words because i can't follow otherwise

That or, you know, Anakin could have just stopped being a Jedi. It's not like the movies developed anything about him being attached to them. Even in the first movie he's basically just a kid who likes their lightsabers and it's not like he'll be killed for leaving. But, alas, there's no real conflict informed by the characters themselves because Lucas can't write. They basically experience the plot on rails.

The original trilogy, and some Clone Wars episodes.

Costigan's undercover status in The Departed doesn't cause conflict. The audience is simply told Costello will kill the rat therefore it doesn't drive the plot because we never see it happen.

We have no idea of knowing how much of his identity he has invested in this dedicated lifestyle he has shaped his entire life around and which informs his ethics. The audience needs a scene with Anakin talking about how much he loves being a Jedi for the conflict to make sense.

I clicked. You literally posted a 3 second clip of Obi Wan telling Anakin (i.e. the audience) he'll be expelled, a 1 minute clip where Palpatine is explaining Anakin's power level, and a 10 minute clip I couldn't watch because it's just Jake Lloyd saying "YIPPEE " and what not.

Again, the relationship causes no conflict within the plot. The plot is something that happens to characters while the audience is directly told how to feel about it. Anakin's tragic hubris is shallow "muh power level" nonsense and it's laughable he goes along with a guy who started a war killing untold millions for the sake of said guy's own power because he believes he gives a fuck about his relationship with Padme. Lol

>Costigan's undercover status in The Departed doesn't cause conflict

It does though. As evidenced by the scenes with his therapist who eventually becomes his romantic partner and the relationship that develops between him and Martin Sheen's character.

It would have been nice if there were anything about how Anakin views the sith in light of the Jedi but instead we get people telling us the plot while Anakin believes a guy he should probably distrust (you know, aside from being a sith and all, he started a war that has killed hundreds of millions of people). Lol.

Anakin is the audience. Got it.

That's him telling the audience, lol.

the Death Star doesn't cause conflict. The audience is simply told it needs to be destroyed

4 is the only one worth watching

Anakin is the audience

That line is for the sake of the audience, yeah.

That's him telling the audience

It's not. The audience gets information by way of the juxtaposition of Matt Damon's relationship with the therapist and that of Leo. Both characters are living a lie but Matt Damon is doing it because he wants to emulate a life of success (remember when he buys the apartment outside of his price range and the classist comment the realtor makes about "single income") whereas Leo is somewhat forced to live a lie by going undercover. Do you understand how this relates back to theme now or do you need it explained to you?

the Death Star doesn't cause conflict

It doesn't actually. It causes literal conflict, yeah, but not thematic conflict. The OT is pretty straight forward that way so it doesn't get into the same trouble as the PT (until RotJ at least but even then it's relatively mild).

It's not

It is. His therapy sessions are for the sake of the audience so we can be told what the stakes are. Why can't Scorcese just show it?

What does this have to do with the stakes of Costigan being discovered to be a rat?
