Does subtlety even exist anymore? Is it forcing a message, or is the modern audience so stupid you have to beat them over the head with it and make it clear? I'm pretty left leaning, and this movie could've been an 8 or 9 out of 10, with even the slightest bit of nuance. Pattinson was great tho. As always.
Mickey 17
They could have got a less ugly negress and get an actor to play trump straight.
Asians aren’t subtle at all
Whats up with the reddit face expression
Bong can't make any good film outside Korea
the ceo parts were unbearable, like the movie got noticably worse when mark ruffalo was on screen
Bong isn't subtle at all, never has been
Yea, it was pretty disjointed in the message it tried to send. Like they tried to shoehorn every left leaning talking point into it even when it didn't make sense. There was the dinner scene, and talking about an all white planet with perfect people, yet there isn't a scene with them rounding up brown people, in fact they show a scene with a bunch of mutts going sig heil to the Trump stand in. And the aliens representing buffalos/American Indians with the black girls speech. But also the "oxy" whatever drug coming in. When i watched it, it seemed like a script was initially there, and they just tried to shoehorn anything the could. It just so disjointed. Which sucks. Such a great concept.
That's any scene with Ruffalo. He has one of those faces.
I like him in Poor Things
The negress wasn't my problem. Mark not playing Trump well, or even having a Trump character at all will be dated. Half the film is based on modern politics, instead of the philosophical questions. And it suffers for it. Could've been great, but if you show it to people 20 years from now, it won't make any sense.
I agree. It's the one example you find him acting, instead of just doing what he usually does, or using a project to push his ideals.
I think it's not the subtlety that is needed but literally just good taste. The Drumpf parody is too comical in contrast with how the rest of the characters behave, it's just unrealistic. It would make sense if he showed the villains hamming it up for the public, but they behave like that in their private life as well.
It is also indeed disjointed and it feels like maybe it's the studio tampering with the editing? I heard some drama about that. Like that girl who is seemingly supportive of Pattison but then becomes suddenly le evil out of jealousy, she disappears from the film right after only to appear in the end already seemingly on the side of our heroes? It's like a whole subplot with her was cut.
The cloning dilemma is also kind of underdeveloped, it did not feel like the film made enough of a case to make the cloning technology seem that bad it is worth destroying (Also, is it really destroyed? I doubt no one else knows how to replicate the technology, the scientists are still alive).
Pattison was excellent, I also thought the soundtrack was interesting in how it sometimes contrasted the scenes. Like not-Drumpf's speech near the begging of the film being soundtracked with calm piano music. The visual direction is nothing special, occasionally there's a nice shot but the film is very dull looking. This is an issue with every Bong film in English he makes them all with a grey filter for some reason. This is no Parasite or Memories of a Murder in terms of visuals.
I liked it. It was worth waiting for and going to see on the big screen.
Too add, is activist actor a thing? By that I mean, actors taking roles they are clearly not meant for, and films that will not sell, but doing it anyway? I don't give a fuck about politics, haven't voted since 2008, but I seems a lot of these dudes don't take indie projects on without inserting themselves and making it about some political shit. What happened to (modern day examples) Daniel Radcliffe or Elijiah Wood, just doing cool projects?
usually small movies are character dramas

These.
Nta, but i expected this to be a character drama, not the same, but kinda in line with Moon with Sam Rockwell. Was disappointed.
are you suggesting that mickey 17 is a small movie? it has oscar winner director and a lot of famous actors
Shit movie, but Pattinsons performance makes it worth while. I said it since 2008, when my little sister dragged me to Twilight "This book you forced me to read before coming out here was trash, but the vampire dude can act". Then was forced to watch remember me and the elephant movie with her at some point. Dude can carry a film, no matter how cheesey and sentimental. It wasn't until good time I was like, holy shit, I will watch anything with your name on it.
Pattinson plays beta cuck loser
still scores two girls that get swept by him right away
I expected it to be a character drama between two clones and the ramifications of such. Instead I got a film that had no idea what it wanted to be.
He played both 17 and 18
The sad truth of life, if you aren't a man, aren't aggressive or whatever, you get the sloppy seconds.
both girls fell for beta cuck version
anymore
Didn't you see Okja? or Snowpiercer? Or literally any other English movie directed by an Asian?
They're all atrocious.
He was over-acting to an embarrassing degree in that movie.
That accent was just terrible.
little sister
Is she cute? I'm not interested if not.
He had to dumb it down for the european audience
mickey 17 > mickey 18
Park Chan Wook made two good English language mini-series, although his English language feature was not good (Stoker).
Bong Joonho sees America through the American media. Everything's hyperbolic & unreal to him, that he has no qualms using sledgehammers + flagposts. He would not portray the SKorean politicians/oligarchs he loathes in a simplistic way. The President's Last Bang did show their military dictatorship as a bunch of macho buffoons, but there was a dark undercurrent that the caricatures were shaping a world of real pain.
what message? it's just goofy scifi movie
WTF kind of name Bong Jewing Hoes?
Not really. At her peak, she was attractive, even wrapped a marine officer around her finger, but somehow manages to throw that away by cheating on him at a party they both went to. Now she's fat and settled with some Dundalk trailer trash.
Most boring pointless piece of shit garbage movie ever.
I disagree. Parasite was pretty ambiguous with the title alone. Western audiences ran with their interpretation and gave him praise for it. And he took the praise, but like other anons say, his films don't translate well to western media. The class divide in Korea is not the same as ours in the slightest. Culturally, economically, or politically.
Chuddies, the Ruffalo character was 1000 times more subtle and reasonable than the orange retard, stop crying.
this movie could've been an 8 or 9 out of 10
having a Trump character at all will be dated. Half the film is based on modern politics, instead of the philosophical questions.
Even this isn't really a problem. No less a classic than Citizen Kane was a blatant takedown of William Randolph Hearst, who nobody today has ever heard of. It doesn't hurt that movie because it's perfectly made, and because there will always be people like Hearst (coincidentally, CK could easily be about Trump too).
A comparison to Citizen Kane is never fair but my point is Mickey17's problems are all down to its fucked up script and performances.
Mickey17's problems are all down to its fucked up script and performances.
I'm not one to jump to studio/executive fuckery, but this film is one that imo, screams it. Like all the pieces are there, then random shit is thrown in for no reason.
William Randolph Hearst, who nobody today has ever heard of
I know who he is . . .
OP's a shill and faggot. Sage.
Anyone who took a history class above US History 100 in high school knows the name Hearst. A core part of the curriculum in US history when covering the Spanish American War is also the conversation of yellow journalism. Maybe things have changed (class of 2014), but unless you were in the retard classes, this was a topic of discussion, even if briefly.

Nigger
Only his old South Korean films have any sort of subtlety in them, as small as they are. Once he transitioned into English speaking movies, he never got that subtlety back.
