I was happy for him. It was a very bittersweet ending, he took the first step towards trying to balance out his mental illness. He doesn’t cure his disabilities, he doesn’t find love, he doesn’t find friends, he doesn’t win a show, but he’s ready to honestly try.

The gay/rape thing with Mike is actually very fitting for this movie because in the bodybuilding world there is a very serious and dark gay scene that lots of young naive guys who are eager for success fall into it. Lots of people have spoken out about this. It’s a very real thing, you can’t even deny it. It’s basically like Hollywood/harvey Weinstein in bodybuilding but with young muscular men looking for magazine cover deals instead of young pretty women looking for roles. That’s basically what Jonathan Majors character fell into, he met his idol, he was star struck, his idol knew this and took advantage of his trust and obsessive fandom to fuck him.

Lads it’s crazy, this is literally just the Joker but with a bodybuilder. It’s almost the same movie beat for beat. He checks in with a therapist. He works a shitty part time job. He has a crush on a girl. He’s mentally ill and delusional and mentally challenged in some way. He has an idol he fantasizes about meeting. He lives with his elderly and sick family member that he takes care of. He loses his job. He gets a hold of a gun(s). He makes a handgun gesture with his hand and pretends to shoot. He forces a smile in a mirror even though he’s clearly suffering inside. He struggles to speak to people and hold a normal conversation. His idol turns out not to be man he thought he was. He fantasizes about doing a murder/suicide to his idol. It just ends differently. But wow, great movie, but it’s literally just Joker.
