I need to have a word with whoever was the alien language advisor on this entire show. Every single alien language sounds the same and they sound shit. They fucked Vulcan up so badly
/trek/
In Trek New-ACK!!!!
IT'S BIN A LAWNG RODE
Vulcan was already fucked up since TWOK.

Can we just return to The Motion Picture era, please
This is an English speaking galaxy. Speak fucking English
What would "realistic" sounding languages add to the shows apart from satiating your autistic nature?
There are dorks out there who speak Klingon. I mean I dig Star Trek but Klingon?
nah, I read somewhere that they tried to extend what Doohan had done for the kolinahr scene iirc
apart from satiating your autistic nature?
nothing. However, I would wager Vulcan sounds different to some random language these fuckers speak
mfw kes is speaking
From a linguistic perspective, Klingon is interesting. Every language has one or two really weird features, either phonological or grammatical.* Okrand, as a linguist, basically put all those edge cases together into one language, so it's fun to see how that all plays together. It's the 5-alarm chili of languages.
*English has /Θ/ and /ð/ and heavy use of definite/indefinite articles, as well as an unspoken order for compounding that still applies despite the lack of case markers
Why not just speak Esperanto?
Why not just speak Esperanto?
Been there, done that.
I wish there was a more straight laced faction in star trek who saw the value in both peace and conflict and tries to cultivate a capacity and ideology for both.
I feel that would lend itself to a lot of episode topics. Both those that explore the merits of it, but also not always putting it up on a high pedestal either, also criticizing it as a fence sitting attitude and the merits to sticking to an ideal.
I feel like you can both respect and criticize star fleet ideals if done well from a non polar opposite perspective. And I feel like some of the better episodes kind of do this anyways, and are some of the most in the spirit of trek and diplomacy.
A perspective I personally jive with is one expressed by CS lewis when he was talking about the ideal of chivalry: someone who is willing to be courtly, but is also feirce and cultivates that fierceness and courtlyness in kind: youtube.com
I'm amazed this shit went as long as it did.
odd way to spell Ezri
I'm certain there was a degree of sunk-cost going on
That’s literally the Romulans as described by this guy
Well a bleep bloop bleep to you too
Are they supposed to be naked? Are those clothes? Where would they get those?
Cartoon parody trek makes a split-second joke
REMOVED FROM CANON
Yeah...
arent the romulans way more sneaky espionage types who are usually duplicitous and isolationist?
It's funny to pit them against each other.
this guy was in the Stargate movie, only noticed on a recent re-watch. just a minor role early on when they were still trying to figure how to 'turn on the damn thing.'
ive always liked older women, but Terry is unlocking a new stage for me...
starfleet just loves Discs, huh? does no other race use disc saucers? is it even that common outside of trek?
Just be a full blown alcoholic and smoke 60 a day
tbf, "The Romulans are always up to something."
she's still cute
to me
This vexes me as well
Anon, when autism hits hard
Yes but moral and true to their own system and people. They’ll fight if they have to but they’d prefer subterfuge (and peace)
OP is right, its the same few strings of syllables, like Star Wars language. No actual effort to create subject, object, verb or anything.
like Star Wars language
You mean the Hutts? Everyone else either growls or speaks "Basic"
Esperanto is for retarded larpers and you should always punch one that advertises itself to further grind its worthlessness into its being
any recent ayy movies?
So how do romulans avoid raging themselves to death? Do they just funnel it all into universal contempt or what?
English also has batshit spelling and no accent marks to denote where to stress vowels when pronouncing. I'd fucking hate to learn it.
I'd fucking hate to learn it.
You don't need to "learn it", all ESL can understand each other easily.
she is also Agent L in the MIB cartoon
not enough nudes in this cartoon given its MtV style
In what food scenarios would you personally not want to use a replicator if they became available in your lifetime?
for me, sushi. and im not a bourdain cuck snob about it
my others would be, Tarvokian Pound Cake and KY bourbon whiskey
you dreamt about what?
you're crazy!
now get the FUCK out of my office!
what did you tell her /trek/?
Huttese was literally polish.
At the beggining of Return of The Jedi, in the scene when C3PO was knocking to the doors of Jabba's Palace, he is asking in Polish:
"Jabba the Hutt lives here?"
What bothers me is that one Klingon in The Undiscovered Country with an accent.
It was never about making any money off of it, it was about sending a message.
klingon babes owe me k'pla
Huttese mimics the phonology of Quechua:
tenser.typepad.com
I don't know where we'd go to figure out how come Quechua and Polish sound alike. It may just be that the conlang merged them like Tolkien merged Finnish and Welsh for his elvish tongues.
Well, they avoided everyone for so long that not even the vulcans knew with certainty if they were real or not
lol that's hilarious, there's no way he wasn't bullied as a kid
there needed to be more episodes like the siege of ar 558 and less episodes of "owie my foot my foot" shut the fuck up bitch get back up and kill more enemies your duty is to die in the defense of the federation and the uniform!
Doomcock says TOS has been censored. If he's reporting it then it must be untrue.
JEM'HADAR FUCKING SHITS
Starfleet should've been like the British military where you get shot if you besmirch your uniform by bleeding on it.
Trust no one, not even yourself
speaking of language...People on New Sydney have this for their OS. this scene is between (cute Ezri) and (our man) Miles discussing a woman possibly killed by the Orion Syndicate in s7 of ds9. I...I can't make heads or tails of this system.
i want bridge commander 2
You're reading it upside down, dingus.
