I know the one you're talking about. The vast majority of 411 cases have a reasonable explanation but that one is truly bizarre. All I can think is maybe he fell in a hidden cave or something, there was that one guy they found in another case who fell down a well hole completely covered in vegetation and was only found because a searcher almost fell in too, otherwise it would have been a similar case of not a trace being found.
The other one that's always weird to me is the old man that went missing on Shasta and not a trace was ever found. He was sick and moving slow, a lot of people were hiking there that day and it's such an open area it's hard to imagine where he could have gone.
