PLEX PRICE GOUGING ANGERS USERS AND PEOPLE BEING FLOCKING TO JELLYFIN

In addition to raising subscription prices, Plex is starting to charge for its remote playback feature – meaning being able to watch media files when not on the same local network as the server – which was previously offered for free.

Plex is finished. Abandon the boomers.

All smart people are moving to Jellyfin.

Imagine not buying a lifetime pass when it was $90

Plex doesn't even work on my hardware anymore and when it did, it was constantly nagging me for money.

Why the fuck is everything that was free on a subscription service now?

You'll own nothing chud

I have Jellyfin on one device but it's finicky with 4K streaming. I still have to use Plex sometimes

imagine paying for anything

when it was $90

I'd rather put that money towards more SSDs than some imaginary service.

I bought it drunk one night way back then. I've since used it while traveling the world. Middle East, Europe, Asia; it's been nice always being able to connect to my plex server while traveling or downloading movies temporarily for those long train rides / flights.

You ever fuck a nigger during your travels?

I dont get it. You pay for it for a month, if you like it you buy the lifetime membership. Who's doing month by month like a doofus

I was done with plex the moment they removed the ability to play a folder. For the life of me i cant understand that move. Seriously makes no fucking sense.

trusting a company to uphold “lifetime” licenses

Lol. You get booted to some non updated branch and need to use the paypig subscription in future because fuck you.

Der gooner

The real answer is because the markets heavily benefit subscriptions both because of having a steady revenue stream (you can take out massive operational loans against projected future earnings), but also because keeping people hooked to online services keeps them paying rather than settling for 10 year old software that’s “good enough” for what they do.
Trouble is this is a prisoner’s dilemma where it makes nothing but sense for a single company to do it but the customers are now faced with 100 subscriptions for anything from a tv to coffee maker and blog and twitch channel.

What? You retarded?

As fucked up as it sounds, that was the business model. Get you in as close to free as possible, then ramp up the price once you rely on the service.

Why do people accept this shit? It's not like anyone is doing anything more for us consumers. They're literally taking shit away, and pretending what, that it's too hard to maintain updating code to new internet specs? Faggots like Elon are telling all you fucking coders that you're going to be replaced in 10 years anyway. It's fucking stupid. GET MAD YOU SONSOFBITCHES!

Imagine paying to pirate

This doesn't affect me so I don't care.

Someday something will affect you and others won't care.
Think about THAT for a moment!

never used plex

been using jellyfin for the past couple of years

piratechads stay winning

pirates do use plex but they are the dumber ones

paying to pirate

piratechads don't pay to pirate.

Jellyfin still needs to get it's shit together
For instance it's been years and years still no actor/people ID tagging
So you end up with actors who share the same name fucking with the metadata in big ways.

HDD+USB/UMS master race wins again

Kevin Hart is some White Canadian dork
But jellyfin don't know that... jellyfin can't know that
Because it's retarded software inherited from the retarded software developers who built Emby with no forethought.

Jellyfin still needs to get it's shit together

yes, but the actor thing is not a major issue.
hopefully this plex stumble will bring jellyfin more development

people pay for plex?

Uh oh... John Smith probably gonna be a mess

dumber ones for using a superior product? there was literally ZERO reason to use freetard jeetlyfin over plex before this change

Still using Plex, doe

The pay option is for extra premium feature shit that you do not need to run your home media network.
Been using it for years and you can ignore all their ads and paid shit no problem.
Besides plex sounds cool and jellyfin sounds like a group of transgender programmers.

But jellyfin don't know that... jellyfin can't know that

that's info from tmdb. just fix it.

that's info from tmdb

Yeah no shit sherlock
It's also jellyfin not using the people ID tags that TMDB provides
So you can't have more than one person with an identical name, save having to go through it all manually and edit metadata then lock it (like I had to do with Ellen Page, but that's another story and not jellyfin's fault)

there was literally ZERO reason to use freetard jeetlyfin over plex before this change

we all knew the change was coming.
it always comes. you idiots never learn. you just depend on goy-ware forever

I'm still not using that poorfag dogshit, I'll happily pay for a premium software. No need to seethe pajeet

paying for plex

act like you are better than people paying for streaming

Can you do remote streaming with Jellyfin? I bought the plex pass ages ago because it was really easy to set up remotely accessible custom tv channels. It's honestly how I consume most of my media library these days.

First hit's free, sucker.

Can you do remote streaming with Jellyfin?

yes

you’re gonna have a real issue with programming and computers in general once you find out who created them and everything else you like online

you’re gonna have a real issue with programming and computers in general once you find out who created them and everything else you like online

You mean male nerds who understand basic binary?
Yeah I think I'll be alright.

he doesn’t know

is plex just a u.i. for your own movies or does it actually stream torrents or something?

only streams your own media isn't there a couple media players that stream torrents?

My friend who warches stuff on my Plex recent adked about downloading the files remotely. Plex does not allow it. Guess thatvis too much like Napster file sharing.
I was thinking of setting up and old school ftp or some kind of file sharing server. Never set one up myaelf. I had gotten files from high school friends via ftp in college back in the early 00s.

only streams your own media

i dont see the big deal then . especially not something worth paying for. am i missing something?

isn't there a couple media players that stream torrents?

i thought i had heard of something like that, it would actually be interesting
