Dawn of The Dead 1978 vs 2004. Which version is better?
Dawn of The Dead 1978 vs 2004. Which version is better?
I prefer ' 78. But I get why it would turn people off; it hasn't aged well.
Both are bad films
2004, not because it's great but because the original has aged like shit.
2004 and it's not close
Both are good but they are very different from each other. The original has a weird vintage vibe to it that is very creepy which is good for a zombie movie. The remake is much more polished and modern with better acting and effects. If I had to choose I would say the remake is better due to having a better soundtrack with "Down with the sickness" and opening with Johnny Cash.
1978 has more soul
Gonna have to go with Night of the Living Dead or Zombi 2 here.
I can see that.
Plus, it was very original for its time and also very graphic. It was one of the very first "horror" movies even if the effects are laughable by todays standards. I prefer the older special effects that were created by the film crew back in the old days over the cartoonish CGI that we see in films made in the 90's and up to today.
I hate the original because of how fucking awful and shit the purple zombies are
I know that they are extras but they look and act like shit. just completely awful make up. and really retarded acting
they completely ruin all their scenes the zombies do. fuck they were shit
28 days later mogged both of them
True.
That is one thing the "Walking Dead" franchise did really well was awesome looking zombies. The shows may be forgettable but the effort they went to in zombie makeup was very good.
1978 long version with mall music soundtrack (not Goblins) has that soulful uncanny valley feeling that does it for me.
TWD make up dipped a lot in quality in some of the seasons
Yeah, like yikes
LOL.
Looks more like an antifa rally than a zombie uprising. Just needed a few with orange and green hair thrown in.
2004 remake is exponentially better in quite literally every single way.
Zombi 2 fucking sucks and it having an amazing and iconic scene doesn't change that fact when you can watch it out of context and it's just as good or even better.
2004 easy
2004 remake is comfy as fuck great zombie movie. Never seen the 78 version so I can’t really say but I’ve rewatched the 2004 remake a bunch of times it’s a great hangover movie to watch on your day off
1978
Funk soul 70s dolemite style exploitation movie
2004
Edgy gory sci fi movie. Paid homage to Night of the living dead with the zombie baby. That shit was metal af
Dawn Of The Dead Australian VHS release > Dawn Of The Dead 2004 > Dawn Of The Dead 1978 > Dawn Of The Dead Italian 1978
The Walking Dead had zombies?
78, Snyderfags are delusional. 04 is Linkin Park tier ow the edge cringe.
Cringe. Bub the zombie is just a green dude and he looked WAAAY better
'78
ironic that the remake is still snyders best film and it's middle of the ground quality kek
best scene is where they snipe zombies that look like celebrities
I like both but I really don't get the massive hate boner some have for the 2004 version (or the people that pretend nobody ever liked it)
It's a fine if generic/different remake of the original
Anyway, I really like 2004, but 78 is an all timer for me due to context. I rented it as a kid expecting something similar to the 1990s remake of Night Of The Living Dead. I was not expecting a legitimately great film. So it blew my inexperienced mind, and had a huge impact me and stays that way in my memory.
Have you fags even seen the original? Its an undercover brother style blaxploitation movie
what the hell are you talking about?
I think most normies have never seen Dawn of the Dead and when they think of it they think of Shawn of the Dead and Night of the Living Dead and assume Dawn is like the grandfather of all zombie movies.
So obviously when they compare 2004 to this fake fundamental movie they have in their heads it pales in comparison
The original of course. Romero was one of the best editors in all of cinema. The editing is incredible. It's a fun adventure horror movie. Very high ups and downs. From stark terror and horror to tonge n cheek stuff. You feel like you're on their team getting shit done around the mall that becomes their fortress. It's got so much soul. I'm very fond of DOTD 2004 of course. Incredible theater experience, of which the theater was jampacked.
Its a blaxploitation movie. This frame is something straight out of Jackie Brown or Boss Nigger
Also, the big distinction is in the writing. The remake is a modern kino. The original plays more like a Stephen King novel. It's somewhat genreless too, it moves from set piece to set piece - some of it is drama, some of it is action, some of it horror. And like a lot of James Cameron's writing, it doesn't feel like a bunch of set pieces with narrative padding tossed in to link them. It feels like an organic story where these big moments naturally happen. It's bizarre to me that a relatively low budget horror film from the 70's has much higher quality writing than billion dollar franchises coming out of Disney, like Star Wars or Marvel.
People hated 04 before it came out. "The scooby doo guy" being the writer, a glut of horror remakes in that period, le running zombies in the trailer and so on. However after it actually came out the tone changed a lot. People really were wowed by the opening.
Yeah he actually looks good, probably cause of the bigger budget
pretty sure 28 days inspired 2004 dawn of the dead very heavily, even the openings with the war/news footage feel kinda similar
No one will deny the original is more influential but the 2004 version is a great popcorn flick and if I had to choose between rewatching one or the other I'd choose the 2004 version every time.
78 is a film. Snyder's is barely a flick.
1978 Dawn of The Dead is one of those films that you appreciate for its cultural/historical significance and not its actual quality
I own it and have seen every cut multiple times. I'll take cheesy 70s kino over that god awful dialogue and shakycam nonsense any fucking day. You have shit taste.
But it's actual quality is really high (some of the make up notwithstanding obviously).
I don't think you read my whole post retard
I feel bad for your long-suffering parents. at least learn to wipe your own ass. throw them a bone.
Meant for
What is bro on about, cool cover though
Snyder has never made a good film, except this one, and it's actually pretty damn good
Hey.
ASK CHATGPT to combine the plot of both 1974 film and 2004 film with fast and slow zombies.
you'll like the result.
not an argument,
PS, ywnbaw
2004 hands down
how about you fuck yourself?
70s cheese wins all day
Either of these, NOTLD remake and 28 days later are pretty much the main zombie movies anyone needs to watch. Any others that are good are only subjectively that. Even like the walking dead.
They are all like the famous historical figure of that genre whereas other stuff is like the Stanley Baldwin of zombie films. No one will remember them at all.
NOTLD remake
Um, why?
28 days later
First half is amazing but the other half is disappointing, obviously won't deny its influence though.
i loved her in kick ass 2. nice boobs
Dawn Of The Dead Australian VHS release
Dawn Of The Dead 1978
Dawn Of The Dead Italian 1978
Explain. I only know there's a fast 78 version with Goblins in the soundtrack, and a slower one with stock music.
Why
Cos it's NOTLD and it's a more watchable version. It'll probably get remade in the future.
One thing I will say is the cultural value of "muh zombies" in the future is wank compared to like Shakespeare or Mozart or whatever but such is modernism in our retarded Judeo-Christian public and factional secret society era.
his only good film was written by James Gunn
Siirs...
1990 night of the living dead remake is my favorite zombie movie and one of the greatest remakes of all time
everything was improved. specially the acting and the zombies.
it's really amazing.
Pretty much this. The original is kino in it's own respects, but the 2004 remake still had great late 90s early 2000's soul, and to this day it's the only decent thing Zach Snyder has ever crapped out.
.
Agreed.
Big improvement over the original which I can barely watch it's so bad.
Plus, redhead is pretty fine and kicks zombie ass.
Cooper character was an asshole and got what he deserved in the end.
It's in my top five zombie movies.
I love NOTLD 90 it but I like the more dire atmosphere of the original. The music is a major component of the charm as well, sourced from older scifi and horror b-movies.
The Cannes cut is the superior cut, but Goblin's full score from Agento's edit is fucking badass!
NTA, but I'm aware of three cuts of Dawn78
Cannes cut
First and longest edit, for the Cannes Film Festival; often mistakenly called the director's cut; mostly stock music
Theatrical cut
Romero's preferred edit; about half stock music and half Goblin's score
'Zombie' cut
Edited by Dario Argento; shortest of the three; almost exclusively uses Claudio Simonetti's Goblin score
The DVD set here has all three, and was (when released) the essential set to own.
I consider them as two completely different movies. Both are very kino in their own right.
Aus VHS version is the full cut but you get some kino trailers. 78 original release is the edited theatrical cut. The Italian one is the Argento/Goblin action cut.
2004 because it doesn't have the humans fighting humans bullshit in it
I guess all the other boomers are at work or still passed out from a mid week bender so I'll go ahead and clue all the zoomers into the actual reason, coz trust me, no one gave a shit about Snyder or Gunn back then. Answer you were you were looking for was FAST ZOMBIES.
I personally never gave a shit but you gotta realize it wasn't just an argument contained to the internet, normies were legit scoffing at the idea of dead people moving around cheetahs and shit.
It's the version the anons are calling the Cannes cut/Directors cut. It was replaced by the high quality version on DVD in the box set the other anon posted.
