season 1 built up a lot of things that could have been cool. season 2 was a let down. as an anime fag i think you’re nuts. there’s a lot to love about the arcane art style that we haven’t seen anywhere else. we’re seeing a lot of new cg and animations techniques though. flow is unique and low budget. i think we’ll start to see a lot of cool animation as techniques get better and cheaper.

All but one of the anime you mentioned (with the one exception being done 4 decades ago) are typical seasonal releases, where 4x per year a new batch comes out by the dozens. Imagine if CN, Nickelodeon and Disney had close to a hundred new cartoons every year rather than a handful every half decade, and where each production house had its focus divided between multiple projects at the same time.

So yes, it's no wonder that a show 6 years in the making (and what I can only conservatively estimate to have 40x the budget) looks better.
