I thought the aesthetics were kino.
Why was Hook so hated?
from what the critics say it's shallow feelgood cinema, but, for real, which spielberg movie isn't?
Its a wonderful movie. Only thing I hate is how he has an emotional affair on his wife.
Movies on average were a lot better back then
Anti-Spielberg thing from the 90s.
Saving Private Ryan
Because it was campy trash and back then they wernt afraid of rating movies accordingly.
Its a cool movie but it's still from campy genre fantasy and camp was generally rated poorly.
It was only hated by the non-target audience.
Kids loved it. Ran the VHS through.
I think it's one of the few examples where the source material is surpassed.
seeing Nazis die is jewish feelgood cinema :^)
the aesthetics
I thought the sets were really cheap looking.
Also, as much as I like Robin Williams, he wasn't right for the role.
That random Nirvana singalong ruined it for me.
Was Hook some sort of sorcerer in this? There are moments in the movie where I am like “…how?”, including the weird ass green light that took Pan’s kids, or just the sparks flying off his sword when they first fight.
Good point, Hook is one of the few Spielberg films that is rated fairly for what it is.
Hated? What? It is arguably the greatest adaptation of Peter Pan story ever made. I just saw it a month ago, and what struck me the most was the sincerity of it all.
No fucking way in hell modern X-milenial shitheels would be able to write something like that.
critics
Not enough rape and suicide in it for modern critics?
It's feel good cinema because both the German and American soldiers are portrayed as low class, that's the real argument, while some asshole in an office decides who lives and dies
Seeing nazis die is feelsgood for every American and European.
t. goyslop enjoyer

don't overexert your brain ;^)
Julia Tinkerbell activated my almonds
Deul

The rest of his filmography can be skipped
got this on VHS for like my second or third birthday and loved the shit out of it
schindler's list
good
rewatch it when you're an adult. it comes off as comical in how outrageous it is.
You were so eager for goodboy points on Anon Babble, you didn't even realize it's not even saying Schindler's List is good, just that it's not a feel good movie.
Why is it called Hook? Captain Hook isn't the main character.
overexert your brain
Dead socialist = good. It's not rocket science, anon.
Jurassic Park, Hook, AI, Jaws and ET are the Berg's only good movies.
Poltergeist too if that counts.
it was a complete flop and hated by everyone! just like star wars!!
dogshit thread by a plebbitor
It's funny that Hook and The Company of Wolves and Princess Bride didn't trigger a wave of fairy tale films in the 90's.
Because critics knew a hundred children turned into dead eyed Jew rape victims
I drew the logo for an art homework and had a decent mark for it. used coloured pencils
It made my mom fall asleep, i quite enjoyed it as a kid but its ass
The only dumb thing in this movie is they depict Peter "running away" as being a literal baby in a carriage
It's like two sides of the production weren't even talking to each other
Those movies were the tail end of the 80s fantasy wave, after the fatigue had set in. Fellowship of the Ring and the Philosopher's Stone kicked off the next wave.
Company of Wolves
Worth a watch for someone who loves the other two?
The Company of Wolves
This movie is insane because it's pretty much a PG retelling of Little Red Riding Hood no darker than other dark-but-for-kids movies like the ones Tim Burton makes, but then out of nowhere they include the goriest werewolf transformation scene in cinema history and then go right back to being family friendly for the rest of the runtime. I know it was riding the wave from An American Werewolf and The Howling, but I'm surprised they didn't just take that scene out so they could market it to a bigger audience like what happened with Excalibur and Amadeus.
Melting Mohammed Anon Babbleuting another thread. Mahmoud got deported. Back to watching Hasan.
Ran because he feared death
just watch avatar it's more or less a rip off of exactly the same plot
I made my mom fall asleep as a kid so I could enjoy her ass
I like how dark 80's and 90's fantasy films were... FOTR shows a strong influence of that in the Ringwraiths. I think Hook is better than another sunny adaptation of Peter Pan would've been, even under the same direction, it felt that much more raw.
I would say so, although it's probably less effusive than either of those, so it's worth it if you liked Interview With The Vampire (in itself basically another subversion of a legend or myth).
That's an interesting point I remember thinking they were going to go all-out at that point and from there I think we just get the bizarre banquet scene. You're right that they should've found a lighter tone, something like an English-language Donkey Skin (Peau d'âne) might've worked best.
