Die Hard with a Vengeance

Great film.

It really wasn't though

Great film.

They took a unrelated script and used the Die Hard IP with it

Die Hard > Die Hard with a Vengeance > Die Hard 2: Die Harder

Die Hard 2 is way better than 3

It's been a while since I watched it but weren't there reports of bombs all over the city?
Any suspicious activity would probably have a more aggressive response
It would be like entering a restricted area when 9/11 just happened

Why was a NYPD ready to shoot a dude for hopping a turnstile?

Because they knew what the subway would be like today if they didn't

It was before 911 and patriot act, etc

No way. 3 is way better than 2. 3 is on par with 1.

I'm not saying it's bad. But I wouldn't call it great. The first one I would call great. Second I would call pretty good. Third is just decent to above average.

They cover this by saying if there is any sign of schools evacuating or any usage of police radios, bombs will go off

I didn't say it was. I was saying that bombs going off all over NYC would put cops on edge. Kind of like how they would be during 9/11.

Die Hard 4 is underrated.

3 is on par with 1.

How? It's not even that memorable. Some dumb scenes too like McLain getting out of the tunnel at the exact same spot that Samuel L is driving buy or the water jug scene.

Yeah, but I'm saying that type of thing was unheard of then. It wasn't a "thing". This movie was probably part predictive programming to help the public consciousness become accepting of something like a 911.

Die Hard 1 and 3 both have:
-Good, mostly grounded action sequences
-An interesting villain with a plausible plan
-A twist in the second half that re-contextualizes their plan
-A fun side kick that has chemistry with McClane

My only real criticism of 3 is that the villain getting away and being found later because he left John some tylenol feels kind of... unsatisfying? The movie grinds to a halt for 10 minutes and then suddenly you have a big firefight where all the villains lose. I haven't read anything about it but I would bet money the shootout at the end was reshoots.

I don't think you need a previous event to rationalize that a terrorist act would put cops a bit more on edge. If there was a shooting where a bunch of cops died I imagine the next day they would all feel a bit more worried for their safety.

People hated it because of the PG-13 rating but it was a genuinely fun film. One of the last good action movies.

lol, cops get hard thinking about murdering every citizen they meet. The darker their skin and the weaker they are, the better.

2 feels like a knockoff Die Hard... and anyone not liking the 3 was probably filtered by the water jug riddle.

It was good but it wasn't even near the top echelon of 90s action. Speed, the Rock, Under Siege are all better. Not in the same ballpark as DH1 either.

that's every Die Hard

filtered by the water jug riddle.

I got it, but I just thought it was a dumb thing to put in a movie. It was contrived.

I think people would feel alright about it if you removed the dumb jet scene. It's like the fridge scene in Crystal Skull that breaks people's brain because of how ludicrous it is.

It's like the fridge scene in Crystal Skull that breaks people's brain because of how ludicrous it is.

That's exactly what happened to me lol. I turned off that movie right after the fridge scene and never have watched it since. What were they thinking?

It was a different time

blink and you’ll miss. Subtle but it’s cause Sam Jackson’s character is black.

I saw 3 first. It was a VHS recording missing the first minutes, starting where they're driving McClane in the paddywagon. To this day I think that's the better cut of the movie, everything explained before that point gets explained later anyway. And you're more invested in what the fuck is happening.

Retard

F35 was brand new and military wanted to show it off

Fridges were brand new and the refrigerator company wanted to show them off

It's actually a very gorgeously shot movie. What a sense of place. Just a sweaty Manhattan day.

Are there any modern blockbusters that look this good?

That's a white man with white problems. You deal with him!

Movies will never look good again

did boomers really finger the trigger before firing like this

I do sometimes

They took a unrelated script and used the Die Hard IP with it

True of every Die Hard except the fifth one. The first four all started out as something else

it's a good flick but a bad die hard
maclane is a whiny bitch, the sidekick is annoying, Kevin Smith is, and the cgi shit with the f35 is just retarded

meant die hard 4ofc
3 is better than 1

NYPD had 12lb trigger pull until recently, less risk of accidental discharge

Completely agree and what elevates 1 and 3 above the other movies are the villains. A hero is only as good as the villainn he overcomes and the Gruber brothers were amazing villains, intelligent, logical, cold, calculating and willing to kill.

John McKino

nigga steals your bike

ask Giuliani

Die Hard 3 handles terrorism in a very gritty and real way... plus the way it handles the binary chemical solution bombs is intense. And it gives the nerd scientist guy a nice character moment when he is willing to go down with the ship to save the little black kids.

I unironically use this line all the time; 'those are x people with x problems'.
really came here to say this. Jeremy Irons makes the movie, just like Rickman made 1. Who was the villain in 2? Nobody remembers, exactly.

It absolutely was reshoots. Originally the villain just plain got away and McClane tracks him down and. Well, here it is.
