I think so far the only one that I know of that actually looks good is FRIENDS because it was shot in widescreen but the compositions were made for 4:3. It's something that some creatives consider because back then they knew you were going to watch the movie as a rental, so it was shot specifically so it would not need to Pan and Scan. I know Scorsese used to do this and that's why stuff like Casino and Goodfellas has perfect visual composition.
