There's an argument to be made that Nani relenting to leaving Lilo with a home that's better equipped to care for her while she works to better both their lives with an education can definitely be a positive message about doing what's best for your loved ones and yourself. HOWEVER, Ohana and the unrelenting unity of family is the core identity of the original. It defines the film. You can't inject a plot or message into a remake that counteracts that in any way. To subvert the founding principle of the original in any way isn't going to be interpreted as a valid alternative message, but rather a rejection of the original. There may be a place for that alternative message somewhere in film, but it shouldn't be a Lilo and Stitch remake.
