Season 5 was a huge step up from season 4, but its not as good as the first three.

The first three seasons all flow together in a natural progression and the season 3 finale would have made an excellent series finale.

The remaining seasons are pretty disconnected from each other (save for 5&6) in a way the first three weren't. Half the cast leaving by mid season 4 didn't help, and Anya in particular is just a worse Cordelia. But the last season the show was ironically mocking its own tropes which is some next level Whedonshit.

There are some episodes of the last for seasons which are genuinely good (mostly in 5 and 6) but you're better off just pretending that Graduation Part 2 is the end of the series.

The only Buffy worth watching.

Wasted dubs. Xander is the best character in the entire show and only faggots and roasties hate him. I like the whole series, yes even season 06 and, okay i don't like the Potentials but i like the Buffy part of season 07.

I used to praise S5 but on rewatch outside of a couple episodes, it has stagnant energy. Many of the creatives moved on or on autopilot. It feels weirdly low budget, losing the composer, most of the concept episodes, and reorienting around relationships that aren't engaging. S6 is much stronger on the soap opera too which makes it even less interesting. The Magic Box is a weak substitute for the school or the university setting. The outer world beyond the main characters shrinks dramatically. In some ways, that does reflect growing older and entering the adult world but it feels accidental. Both Ben and Glory are boring, badly acted characters who do nothing for 95% of the season. Dawn is kinda annoying but at least provides something new. It does end very strongly which probably saved its reputation
